I feel like a soldered 512GB boot drive isn't enough for a pro machine.

    • I have used 512 for the last 4 years, more than enough for developing.

That's why they offer multiple specs up to 8TB of space for a boot drive.

    Title should say m1 pro.
    $3380 from Apple edu store

I am aware of the AOC edu store pricing but OW price match is what matters

      • Amen

      • I was able to PM at JB Hifi to edu store but they weren't willing to PM to AOC which was >10% and they felt wasn't really meant to be available to everyone.

Given they had stock in store, and I had 10% off JB gift cards, I was happy to settle for what amoutned to about a $50 difference in negotiated price (pre discounted GC).

  • Yep. The bomb.

    that notch though…

  • Interested. Any gift card stacks for ow to bring price down. Just an super expensive machine. Nothing in suncorp for ow

Imagine spending over 3 Grand for a PRO Laptop and get 0.5 TB storage. Apple Logic

You can upgrade to as much as you want, you can use external SSD. There is no issue here.

You are paying $3k for a laptop that as a whole beats any PC laptop in almost every single metric all at the same time.

      It's actually a bargain.

imo you can give credit to the performance and at the same time give criticism to their extra effort to stop you from customising and repairing their product

I'm using a 2013 Macbook 15" now, it has been my daily laptop for a solid 5 years and now I use it mainly to edit photos when I'm on the road.

It's over 7 years old and there is nothing wrong with it. This is the thing that most people don't want to talk about, Apple is expensive and restrictive and sometimes makes stupid decisions, but generally their equipment is professional grade.

If you want something that is cheap, easy to repair etc… then just get a PC laptop. If you want the whole package, get a Mac. It's marketed to a totally different buyer.

          • @croseks: People still use 3770k chips to do their work. It's not like Apple haven't purposely bricked older devices with updates is it?

          • @croseks: Look I'm glad you have had great experience with them but I'd suggest you look up the topic of Right to Repair and you would find out a lot of anti-repair bs apple is pulling for the last few years. The MacBook on your hand right now that's 7 year old is probably more repairable than the new ones.

      • except doesnt have a touch screen , has small non upgradable hard drive you and cant upgrade it yourself and has a big distracting notch in the screen, isnt 4k, and cant output 4k, 120hrtz, no usb a, and its extremely expensive and overkill for most people.

      • Not Alder Lake intel chips.

    • Dell Precision 7560 starts at $3609 for 16GB/512GB spec.
Lenovo ThinkPad P1 Gen4 starts at $3899 for 8GB/256GB even.

  • Still waiting for mine to be delivered from Apple, ordered on event day, zero progress.
