I know not a lot of people still care about 3DS but something about a true handheld device which fits snuggly in your palms make me still come back to it from time to time. Bit annoying that you will have to put money in your eShop wallet to buy the games but it could be done via their eShop website or on your Switch.

    3DS. Great system!

      One of the best!

It truly is. I homebrewed my one and installed Gameboy games, Advanced ones, NES, SNES and more. It's an emulation beast.

      • Link please :)

Also, do NOT update the console before attempting the mod, as it'll be easier to install.

How many do you plan to buy and never play OP?

    • +6

As many as I could haha. But jokes aside I did enjoy Stella Glow (back when I still got the physical copy) and SMT Strange Journey. Etrian Odyssey is also pretty decent though I gave up after 25hrs mark due to my lost saves. Persona Q is probably the only one that I finished. But the rest yeah I just got them cause them are cheap.

To be fair at this point some of these games on sale are already at the $13-$26 mark and can provide solid 25hr+ of gameplay so I’d say not too bad. Especially those SteamWorld games which are significantly cheaper than their counterparts on Switch.

Next time please consider making a table

Yeah I will for sure. Did it in a haste last night while missus threatened to throw me out on the couch if I didn’t hurry up so yeah. Missed one more Harvest Moon game on the list as well.

Dude it’s an awesome effort! I think thanks is more what’s in order.

Thanks mate. Happy to take one for Ozbargainers haha

Whoah! Used the word “haste”, legit rpg gamer right there.

This is how I feel about the PS Vita. It also has the same deal that you have to add funds to your PS wallet to buy Vita games.

    • Shame that there is no more sale on the PS Store for Vita. I kinda missed out back when they tried to push out the older titles to be on sale. Ah well live and learn.

      • +1

You can still buy games, not sure if they still have sales or not. It’s just a bit cumbersome as you have to add funds to your wallet via desktop, mobile or modern console THEN buy the games via the PS Vita.

Pretty sure PS Store there is dead and buried. I checked it sporadically and it didn’t even have a sale section. Kinda make it wanna mod mine to play older PSP and PSOne titles.

            @Grey 13: I’ve modded mine. It’s excellent.

I think the vita has better ergonomics from the look of it though, I just can't justify putting down 200 for it.

      • I bought a PS Vita Slim, carry case, two memory cards and Borderlands 2 for $180 just over 2 years ago. They're a bit more expensive now but if you don't have a handheld and are in to retro gaming, they're a great console. The twin analogue sticks are one of the biggest advantages over the DS depending what games you play.

      • Reminded me of a better time when Dick Smith was still around (physically) and tried to push out Vita 2000 for $99 each. Good days…

        • That's why I got a new 3ds from eb a while back. I already owned a 2ds, but I got the last one in sydney for 120 bucks, knowing that they were going to have a massive price hike.

Since when cooking mama became RPG lol?

    • You levelling up cooking skills in real life? ;)

Recommend Steamworld Dig 2 for those that didn't get familiar with this game when it blew up in the early Switch days.

Very fun single-player story, exploration combat adventure 2D platformer. Perfect one for the Switch platform. Doesn't often get too much cheaper on PC than this Switch price.

you guys are buying games for your 3DS?

    • +11

Yeah mostly to support the developers and the franchise people like in hope that the series won’t die off.

      • +3

Good man, we need atlus to know that, yes, small games are still popular. Please, we need more in between games. Devil survivor and etrians are fantastic.

I missed the freeshop era. I didn't think that Nintendo would do something to the obsolete system..

      • Not Nintendo per se but I guess since Persona Q garnered enough attention for 2 games on the 3DS, hopefully they will do another one on Switch later. Also here to hope we’ll see another Stella Glow game.

        You might like hshop.

Always loved the Nintendo handhelds! I was late to the party with the 3DS, having only bought one last year, but got completely hooked on Rune Factory 4 and DQ8!

Took me back to the late nights playing Pokémon Silver on the original Gameboy and with torch in hand!

Might give Stella Glow another shot, cheers OP!

The voice acting in Stella Glow is surprisingly great. And the combat is also quite enjoyable and not too grinding for my taste. A hidden gem for sure!

  • 3DS is probably my favourite console of all time. So many good games on this thing, and being able to play DS games too just adds to that.

Nice to see it still getting sales on the eshop!

    A warning to everyone.

Be wary that 3DS was released 10y8m ago in in March 2011. Wii was released December 2006 and its shop was permanently shut down 12y1m later in January 2019.

Anyone who bought from the Wii shop was stripped of the ability to redownload their purchases. Nintendo got their money and everyone's games were lost to time unless they were backed up.

Nintendo may do the same to the 3DS.

    • Hence why 3DS prices have shot up in price for a lot of games - especially the ones under this deal.

    • +1

Good thing modding a 3DS to play backups is piss easy. Hard to feel guilty when there's no way to buy the game down the line.

      • +1

how easy is it? Like putting an R4 cart in?

        • Very easy; you only need an SD card. I just did mine a few weeks ago actually! Someone else put a link to the same guide I used.

    • +1

Pretty sure you can still redownload your purchases on the Wii. You just can't make any new purchases.

    • This is why I buy physical cartridge games…..just in case something like this happened.
