I'd much prefer the Crucial M4 sold at the same price.

  • Satchel for small items $9 or Shipping to New South Wales $18

    • I love it how I can send items ANYWHERE in AUS post that are larger and heavier than this and pay only 6.5-7 with tracking and $500 insurance…

      • How'd you do that :/ just sending a parcel (own packing) into 250g from NSW to QLD costs me 8-9 bucks with tracking.

This SSD is not good, can you please do a special for an Intel SSD again?

    • hi,

you own experience or some reviews out there saying is not good?im about to get a ssd, this seems to be a good price, compare to the M4 from amazon, would save me trouble if there is issues with the ssd.

      • from what I've read around places amazon will do you better then these guys in regards to warranty, it's all hear say but still.

    • I personally own this SSD and has provided me with fast and very stable performance. Hasn't crashed at me at all. Load times and read/write times are quick.. I paid 240 for this about a couple of months ago.

  • The OEM Intel 520 SSD's are back in stock but the price has been bumped up to $199 (inc free bracket and sata cable), and no more free shipping. I haz a sad :(

      LOL busted!

    • It's obvious he works for centrecom, that's why I asked above if he could do the Intel SSD special again.

  • Instant +1 for an SSD bargain which isn't another "me too" crucial M4 amazon post by some noob.

In that case I'll resist the urge to put up a new post for the Crucial M4 256GB being sub US$300 again.

  • Are SSD really worth the price?

If you value boot and application launch time that are about a quarter of that of a typical hard drive then like me you might be tempted.

You will probably still need a hard drive for storing large files such as videos. So you should consider it an extra cost, so probably doesn't make sense in a budget machine, though it could breath new like into a two year old laptop.

SSD tend to work best when there is at least 30% disk space free as that gives it space for TRIM to do it's stuff (assuming your OS supports it (XP doesn't).

If you are about to upgrade then I would wait for the Ivy Bridge chips and use an SSD cache to improve performance, rather than use it as the boot drive.

  • What do you guys have of centrecom? I've heard so many bad things about centrecom, good price but a bit hesitant to buy.
