  • Anyone know if the 18 month exclusion is different for this card versus direct AMEX cards?

    • +1

This is a direct Amex card, so no.

    • +1

      T&Cs
'This offer is only available to new American Express Card Members. Card Members who currently hold or who have previously held any Card product issued by American Express Australia Limited, in the preceding 18 month period are ineligible for the bonus Qantas Points and credit offer.'

    • Thanks for clarification (kerfuffle, Ostrich). Wasn't sure if this was a direct card or not. Guess I'll keep on waiting! :-)

  • Does anyone know how quickly the Qantas points are credited? Is it shortly after the 3k spend is reached?

    • +1

All points accrue after a month

    • +1

Very quick, even before the initial statement if you make the spend

  • +1

Which one is better value? This or the Explorer offer?

    • +2

kinda like comparing apples to oranges in this case as amex membership rewards points cannot be converted to qantas ..
With the explorer, 240k MR = 120k krisflyer points (krisflyer is just one example program, amex points is also more flexible and can convert to multiple FF programs depending on which you prefer)
      With this deal, it's 110k qantas FF..with $200 cashback.
If you're planning to do it for points only, and you're chasing qantas points and plan to cancel after the first year, this qantas deal probably works out better financially as youre getting $200 back from a $450 annual fee..
With the explorer you'll have a $400 annual fee with nothing back.
Also qantas points have the highest value per $1 ..but then qantas is generally more expensive if trying to use travel credit through the amex portal. Really depends which FF program you value more.

      • Thanks for the thorough explanation. I'll be going with this one then. Cheers

I have this card, the bonus Qantas points gets acknowledge at the exact moment once you spend $3k

    • Do you mean that you received your bonus points the day when the transactions posted? Not the day when you received your statement?

      • On the amex points tracking, it will show straight away once you reach your spend. The points however won't be transferred to your QFF till after you pay the statement for that month I believe

        • For me it got transferred before my statement generated. It's as if amex do bulk transfer at end of month

          • @maverickjohn: ahh yes you are right, mine just got transferred to my QFF account. Noice

Does anyone know when I need to use up my $450 travel Credit?

Can I book flights for December 2022?

    • +1

      Yes you can

      • if I do book for December 2022, will my ticket still be ok if I cancel the credit card before December 2022?

        • +2

Yes, I booked flights using this card for 10 months after I closed the card.

    Bless this coming back

EDIT: I think the link is showing the 55k bonus points, this link seems to show the 110k bonus points.

Fixed! I’m not sure what changed with my original link..

  • Qantas are offering a bonus 20K points if you've not held a Qantas points card in the last 12 months too with registration - https://www.qantas.com/au/en/frequent-flyer/member-offers/ne…

"If you haven’t held a Qantas Points earning credit card in the last 12 months, you could earn an extra 20,000 points on top of existing offers of up to 130,000 bonus points. Offer ends 30 November 2021."

AMEX are offering an additional 5K points for adding extra card holders during November too!

  • I'm contemplating whether to go for this one or hold out for another offer with QFF status credits included…
