Lumations Twinkly App-Controlled RGB 600 x LED Christmas Lights $199.99 Delivered (Online Only) @ Costco (Membership Required)

551

Lumations branded led that use Twinkly app. Comes with 600 Rgb Led Christmas Lights at $199 from Costco.

I could see kids having lots of fun with these. At least that's what I'll tell my wife.

These are not the genuine twinkly branded lights. Twinkly branded 600 LEDs are $400 but still use the same app.

      • Can you schedule power on/off etc? How does it know where the lights are situated on the tree?

        • Yes - the twinkly app has a timer for setting on/off per day (one on, one off).

light mapping is done using your phone camera - whilst "viewing" the lights, the app turns each light on and off various times to map where they are.

BTW - you can download the app and play with it without having a set of lights….

      • Thank you, really helpful

  • Thanks OP

    I have ordered a set.

They are no doubt expensive, but Costco has a very good returns policy so if I am not satisfied I will simply take them back to the new Costco store at Boolaroo near Lake Macquarie.

  • Ordered a set, now to find a tree!

Have read that it's based on a cloud service for the 3D mapping, good that it's through Costco so if the service ever shuts down (rendering it useless) can return.

Just a quick note to say we received ours and they're pretty fracking amazing. Couldn't be happier.

    • Nice can't wait for mine. Not sure if I leave it till the tree is up for surprise or just open it once I get it.

  • Finally had a chance to open mine and have a quick play with them. Haven’t actually loosened them from the bundle yet so I can pack it back in the box easily for another month, but I mapped out the lights in that tightly wrapped bundle and ran some effects and they look awesome.

Just wondering for those who also got these, are you getting an error when trying to download the ‘countdown’ effect from the store?

Can’t wait to put the tree up this year and get these on.

    • are you getting an error when trying to download the ‘countdown’ effect from the store

yes - sits and busy loops when trying to compile effects… This is with a twinkly gen 2x600 RGB

      • I discussed with Twinkly support -

If the alert COMPILING EFFECTS FOR THIS DEVICE stays in the loop, we suggest you log out of the app and log back in and, if this doesn't help, uninstall and reinstall the App.

This procedure is no longer as extreme as it once was, as, after recent updates, you won’t lose the devices, groups, and mapping, but only the customized effects.

I just got mine delivered and the box is almost identical to the Twinkly lights, but with a small Lumations logo in the corner. It even specifies they're Gen II on the box.

Despite the rounded LED diffusers, these are just as good as the genuine Twinkly lights.

    • That's great to hear.

Anyone comparing the brightness of this one and the Twinkly brand?

lets be honest.. these are for a Xmas tree which most people keep up for 40 day..

Who really cares.. I have these and they are brighter than another LED light I have used on a Xmas tree.

If you want a set and want to save money get these..

  • Mine arrived the other day. Really happy with them but I don't have the twinkly ones to compare with. I think they are really bright, currently running them on about 50% brightness in the app.

  • I guess I have a costco membership now, thanks!

Hi all, bought these and also have some existing 'real' twinklys from last year.

Can confirm that they are both pretty close to identical.

Both run through the same app, both run the same v2 firmware v2.7.1 at the moment, both can be firmware upgraded by the app, can be joined in sync groups together, both run the same effects.

They are also pretty close to idential in terms of light output per LED and distance between each LED on the string.

    Differences:
Packaging - excellent on the 'real' twinkly, but reasonable on the Luminations, also who cares when they are on the tree :)
Cable colour - darker on the real - a greeny black, more greeny green on luminations
Quality - Subjective, but the real twinklys just somehow look slightly better made, may be the wire size, the colour, or the flat top vs dome topped LEDs but they seem better, probably my brain trying to justify spending a fortune on them last year :)
Colour stepping values - not sure if this is really real or just my perception but the real twinklys seem somehow slightly smoother in their transitions on a fairly flat colour gradient with a slow blend time, I think that the real twinklys may have a slightly smoother led chip, or possibly a small capacitor in the led chip design that the luminations dont have.
Controller - a little bulkier on the luminations, but this is probably due to them having 600 leds and my twinkly set only having 250 thus needing more power?

Overall really having to be super picky to even tell which is which. As the costco Luminations ones are basically half the price they definately win in my oppinion.

    • I'm having troubles updating the firmware on the luminations. Running 2.6.2 needs update to 2.7.1. It sits with a spinning loading wheel and doesn't progress from that.

      • I had the same problem, but after restarting the app, it upgraded without issues and everything has been solid since.

      • Mine did the same - but I walked away and left it. After a stupidly long delay it came good, so in my case it just took patience.

        • Yer I been leaving it but screen goes off then it just reverts back to update screen. Maybe I'll up my screen time-out and leave it on for 5 to 10 mins

          • @Jklaro: Yeah - I kept tapping the screen to make sure it didn't time out because of that. It seemed like 15 mins, but was probably less than 10 minutes….

    • Thank you so much for this post.
There is not many comparisons online for this two (actually I could not find any).

      Thank you.

  • I need to find some tips on how to cover the tree with them to conceal the wiring.

Put these up yesterday and am very impressed with the lights and brightness. Used it with the Twinkly Music dongle and it’s impressive. Just wish it had a way to cycle through the music effects itself rather than a single effect and having to manually switch.

600 LEDs looks very full and good on the tree.

Just noticed an update to the Twinkly app this morning which includes new firmware (2.8.3) for more space for effects, new music moods as well as HomeKit compatibility!

Edit: just updated, there’s a bunch of new ambience lighting effects.
Can’t get HomeKit option to show up though, wonder if they’re rolling it out in phases or if these particular lights aren’t included.

Reddit thread where some people with 600 LED strings don’t see HomeKit yet either
