they are 4g models after all, hopefully they work on aus network eventually, though my listing might also be handy if big w is out of stock - btw, $1 is the only diff between big w and target prices…

      • +37

that a lot of money, then you take that $1 to dollar store and you buy sumthin else ! - Russell Peters

        • +2

haha! i suppose you could get 2 soft serves and share one with a mate :D

        • +16

Actually 3 soft serves and 10 cents change with the latest McDonald's deal :)

        • Shh!

        • +5

Actually for $2 you can get the hungry jacks offer so it is a lot of $$$.

    • -1

They are 4G models, and they do run faster on the Telstra network than the previous iPads (just not as fast as 4G/LTE), as they can run dual channel HSPA.

Just because it can do something, but not here in Australia, doesn't make it misleading.

      • +2

        appreciate your support!

      • +2

Errrm how about take this for precendent that you're wrong.

        http://www.smarthouse.com.au/TVs_And_Large_Display/3D_TV/A8R…

It's blatantly misleading as you wont be getting 700/2100MHz LTE anytime soon on this continent.

        • +1

so what this is saying is that although the tv (in this case the ipad) can do it but the system doesnt support it then it is wrong to advertise as such?

        • -3

BUT IT IS STILL CALLED IPAD 4G. what is wrong with people like you? we are talking about good prices of ipad. if you insist it is misleading, there are better places for you to complain, NOT HERE.

        • @alwaysseric

It's call the new ipad, not ipad 4G.

From the apple website 4G LTE is supported only on AT&T and Verizon networks in the US; and on Bell, Rogers and Telus networks in Canada. Data plans sold separately. See your carrier for details.

        • -5

          @ozhunter,

of cos i know it. as you pointed out yourself, it is new iPad 4G, isnt it??

        • ipad with 4g specs, yes

4g compatible for use in australia, NO

        • is there anyone here, HERE on OZBARGAIN SITE, claims it is compatible in australia????? NO. we are talking about the DEAL and THE PRICE. open your eyes and your minds, please.

        • lol open your mind, I'm saying it is called the new ipad(NOT IPAD 4G OR THE NEW IPAD 4G)

      • +2

Where is the benchtest to support that the new iPad running faster on Telstra's 3G?

        • Gizmodo.com.au will be testing it so keep an eye on that.

    • 4g capable if your on a network outside of australia

      • +3

Only in the USA on two networks

    • +1

thats like saying im going to sell you an electric powered car but until the technology is ready it will run on petrol until then but we will sell it under the proviso it is an electric car because it can do it

      • +9

And there's absolutely nothing wrong with doing that - if you as a consumer are stupid enough to buy an electric car purely for the reason of it being electric, without FIRST researching whether or not there is infrastructure available to support that then you deserve to waste your money.

How would you suggest apple do market the device's capabilities? If they were to say 3G that would be MORE misleading, because the device is in fact capable of 4G. Tacking on an entire, purely negative, sentence (e.g. "The device supports 4g but you will not be able to access this functionality immediately due to the lack of supporting networks in your country.") in advertising material is hardly aesthetically pleasing, and Apple DO acknowledge this information on their website for anyone who cares to actually research the product they buy (see ozhunter's post above).

Not to mention the fact that it's just blatantly obvious that this product won't achieve it's maximum speeds in Australia. Do you see car manufacturers putting disclaimers at the end of their adverts that their car's maximum speeds are not legally attainable because of speed limits? No, because it's up to the CONSUMER to know the circumstances of using a product before buying it.

Christ, I could go on all day about how wrong you are (and everyone else on your side getting all pissy about this) but the simple fact of the matter is people need to stop blaming or trying to sue a company every time they don't nanny the crap out of them.

Yes, Apple (and most other companies) give you the benefit of the doubt and assume you're not a complete idiot. Don't abuse that privilege.

        • +1

          like

        • On another note, have sufficient 4G devices out in the wild may push the networks to upgrade as a priority.

        • -1

so then why do companies like apple treat me like an idiot?

  • +2

i dont like apple, but deal

    • +1

yep, can't deny a great deal!

  • +28

A true OzBargainer will ask Target to price match BigW ($498) then you proceed with your $1 coin to McDonalds to buy a small drink for your efforts. WINNING!

    • Lol one more shop with stock and more of a chance for to me get an ipad yeah?

    • +1

haha, $1 could get you 2 soft serves! :D

      • +4

3 actually. They are 30 cents each. And 10 cents change to donate to someone less fortunate than yourself.

        • +4

          damn…. they're 50c in my state :(

        • +2

Damn! because of this I have scroll up again I though my mouse is faulty.

        • +1

No they aren't, they are 30c nationwide now ;) google 'mcdonalds loose change menu'

        • hmm seems like im too old to keep up :D

        • Dang! What an ozbargain dilemma. Do I head to Maccas for a soft serve each day for the next 2 (or 3) days, or do I celebrate really big and spend the whole dollar on a choc-top at Hungry Jacks?

          Mmmmmmm… chocolate.

        • +1

Wow, soft serves are back to 30 cents? That's a more exciting deal than this one!

  • Why would they make most of their prices $1 more expensive than bigw?

    • i would think they didn't intend to do that as i personally believe big w released its prices after target, causing them to want to beat them! (to me $1 doesn't make that much a difference)

  • So any employees know the stock levels? I'm guessing your most likely required to line up pre opening to get your hands on one?

    • i wish i knew someone who worked at one of those places :(

    • call them up, hay street target in perth has 40 units in total

  • does the 10% team member discount apply to ipads?

    • i have no idea, you should confirm this with someone who does know :D

    • Isn't it 5%? I know someone who's with coles/myer and he gets 5% :S

      • double the discounts apply from today til sunday.

        • REALLY? :O
even if you work at COLES?

        • But they will be sold out by Friday so no chance to pick one up over the weekend.

        • you just need to be working at a coles related store to get the discount card and the 5% applies to all coles related stores.

the double discounts starts from today through to the end of sunday.

        • Do you have a link to this special offer of 10% off Wesfarmers/Coles Staff discount.

          Usually, it's only 5% off.

    • FK HELL, this is awesome. I am so getting the new ipad…….

      • so am i! :D

    • Thanks mate, got my at 449.

  • +3

yeh but target charge you 10c for a bag…

    • +2

      they're eco friendly :)

  • +11

Not only can it run on 4G it can also time travel too, it just needs a wormhole.

  • -2

i woulda been so good if it was like usa pricing 16,32,64 499 599 699, we have to pay 29 more for 32gb and 49 more for 64gb:(

    • It's called market pricing, and you manage to deal with it everyday at the supermarket.

    • +2

      GST

  • Offtopic, but seeing as target are selling ipads, any info if they will sell cheaper iphones?

    • Yea… when the new iphone comes out.

      • They won't sell iPhones. Only Apple sells unlocked iPhones except via direct imports.

    • -1

i think sparkys got it right, only iPhone i can think of that is sold unlocked is the 8gb 3GS

  • damn harvey norman match the damn prices!!!!

    • theyll never do that D:

  • Big W have announced prices as well and go on sale tonight at Midnight!

    • yup! anyone going?

  • +1

I went to myer and they claim they do price match and told them about the BigW NEw iPad priceing but told that BigW should be in trouble if they sold ipad lower than Apple pricing so in short they will not price match BigW.

    • Tried to match HN $164 iPod deal last year. That said same shit.

    • ah well, a $1 wont hurt for the days and nights of fun you have with ipad!

  • +1

    What about DSE now?

    • probably going to be similar price wise.. not so sure about stock levels since target is the last place people go :D

  • +1

Gee, if you combine the 10% emloyee discount, that would be $450 only. I need make a new friend who works in Coles/Target.

    • haha we all wanna know someone who works there D:

  • JB told me tomorrow morning launch prices will be $537 for 16gb wifi model… thats the only price I got so Big W is a lot better…

    • and target?

    • They are smart, knowing how to profit when supply is short. These will sell out in the first month even at RRP.

  • They also said that wouldn't price match!

    • well im sure $1 wont hurt yah :P (unless soft serves are a big deal to you :D)

      • -2

        3.33333 soft serves you mean

  • our store got 5's 10's and a few 15's ….so i guess a lot of others are pretty similar.

Im not in a Target or Big W they probably got double that..

    • can you confirm 10% staff discount apply?

  • +2

Not available Melbourne or Brisbane City :( What a joke.

  • +1

Apple normally drops iPad prices by $150 11.5 months after launch.

    That's to say:
If you buy tomorrow, you effectively pay $150/11.5=$13.04 premium per month
If you buy 1 month later, you effectively pay $150/10.5=$14.29 premium per month
If you buy 2 month later, you effectively pay $150/9.5=$15.79 premium per month
If you buy 3 month later, you effectively pay $150/8.5=$17.65 premium per month
If you buy 4 month later, you effectively pay $150/7.5=$20.00 premium per month
If you buy 5 month later, you effectively pay $150/6.5=$23.08 premium per month
If you buy 6 month later, you effectively pay $150/5.5=$27.27 premium per month
If you buy 7 month later, you effectively pay $150/4.5=$33.33 premium per month
If you buy 8 month later, you effectively pay $150/3.5=$42.86 premium per month
If you buy 9 month later, you effectively pay $150/2.5=$60.00 premium per month
If you buy 10 month later, you effectively pay $150/1.5=$100.00 premium per month
If you buy 11 month later, you should wait for it to drop $150

    • +1

Apple drops the price when a new iPad comes out, which is normally a year. Prices never changed in between except for one day (Black friday).

      End of story.

      • +1

What tg said is correct, if you keep waiting you are actually paying "more".

        • Okay that was pretty embarrassing. I wish I can take back my neg vote, tg - sorry.

  • does anyone know if u can layby?

    • +1

If not, just give it a go anyway, doubt the kid cares

  • I'm trying to decide if I should wait for Samsung's next tab or just go for this one soon. I already own a GS2 Android phone and from what I can tell, the tab isn't THAT much different.

And I'd like to try the Ipad… decisions, decisions… (and a lack of cash to follow through with such decisions :P)

  • +7

Is it easier to steal these from Target or Big W

    • +4

      I'll let you know

    • all sold out at target and bigw for the basic models…
only left ones are the 64/4G models

  • +1

For people with Apple EPP Store access (like large corporate employees, e.g. banks), check the price there. It's actually cheaper on some models, e.g. 32GB Wifi $743.60, 32GB 4G is $773.3 (free shipping), a few dollar cheaper than this deal. Of course, each corporate gets slightly different discount from Apple, but in general, that's the typical discount for iPad.

You may have to wait 3 weeks to receive it though. But you always cancel the EPP Store order before it's shipped, if you do score one from a retailer.

  • I am living in the sydney CBD and I have no idea which available target to go to for this ipad! Target website sux bcoz they don't provide postcodes for the available stores, i. e both nsw and vic have Burwood!

  • did anyone manage to purchase one?
and how many did they receive?

  • I purchased 16GB White WiFi (MD328X/A) this morning (8:24AM) from JB HiFi World Square (Sydney). I think they opened early today. I asked them to match Target price and showed them the Target offer in their computer (got the link from Ozbargain). The sales manager checked with somebody over mobile phone and agreed. There were not many IPad customers in the shop.
