Taken from the description:
Please note, it is possible that these monitors MIGHT contain no more than 3 bright dots (dead pixels). But when you think about it, even if it did have a couple of dead pixels (you may not be able to see them anyway!), who cares if that translates into $200~$300 worth of savings in your pocket?!
no thanks :) I rather have ZERO dead pixels on my monitors. One of my monitors had 1 dead pixels and it annoyed the hell out of me.
Agree with you on that elcheapo. Nothing like getting something a little bit cheaper and every time you look at it you think 'crap!'. Better to pay more and every time you look at it being happy about the object you bought. Warning: Dead Pixels do not give you any warm and fuzzy feelings (quite the opposite actually).
Same thoughts here. I had 3 dead pixels on my new Dell 24" and literally went off at them until they replaced it. As much as the bigger size might be nice, it's still refurbished.
thanks cheapo, i didn't read that.
The cheapest on staticice is like $589, and it also does have a couple of dead pixels..
For a LCD screen that size, this is a good price, but yeah, i wouldn't buy it ..
bad pixels
seem like reasonable value to me. don't think 3 dead pixels would be a huge concern… though if they were bright pixels it might be another story.
I wouldn't be so sure if they refer the deal pixel as truly dead pixel (black/unlit pixel).
Nowadays most people refer defective pixel fault as dead pixel. Defective pixels can be bright (white) spots, black (unlit) spots or even flickering spots.
1 defective pixel is bad enough for me, but three ?? and people still buying that for almost full price ???
It's still a nice price, especially if you can pick it up.
28" is so big for a monitor that I wouldn't be able to sit closer than a metre away and a dead pixel from there would probably be undetectable.
and a dead pixel from there would probably be undetectable.
But once you find out it's there, it'll haunt and annoy you for the life of the monitor.
While it may seem unreasonable, I think all brand new monitors should have zero dead/stuck pixel guarantee, regardless of the brand. Otherwise they should be classed as defect.
I bought optima monitor on similar deals (24" 300$/1 Yr warranty) and it is really great deal. I was determined to buy the monitor from optima store and if the dead pixel is in awkward area return the monitor, but to my luck, the pixel is at a corner which is very difficult to even findout where it is (on windows xp).
It is certainly good deal as even otherwise zero pixel monitors there is no guarantee it will get dead pixel and going to be big pain on warranty claims even if it covered.
This is without a doubt what happens to the monitors come back on the 0 pixel warranty, Not really worth it at that price I would rather pay the extra $100 or so to get full warranty and no bad pixels & newer generation panel.
Sorry, may be an alright deal but the way this was posted resulted in me giving it a negative (and frankly, I'm not interested in anyone's disagreement)
Why?
1) No mention of possible dead pixels. Given the refurbished status and "justification" of such pixels, the chance of getting dead pixels seems relatively high and you don't seem to be able to return it if that's the case
2) Exaggeration of deal, RRP may be over $1100 but common shelf prices are about $700 new (albeit still a considerable ~30% saving) or $500 refurb (~10% saving)
In my opinion, something you will look at for hours and hours deserves a bit extra as one badly placed pixel is enough to make it a bad viewing experience.
Uhh..
Firstly, i didn't bother reading it (about the dead pixels), and i am SO sorry that i wasted 10 seconds of your life..
Secondly, that site says its worth $1200..
(Upon closer inspection, similar refurbished models are around $580 at cheapest), so it still saves you $130 if you were thinking of buying that exact model.. ;)
Honestly, after getting opinions back from this post (which is the only reason WHY i put it up, as i wanted to get opinions if its worth buying), i wouldn't rate this positive either, however its by default… :(
No need to be sorry. I wouldn't have made my comment if I cared about those "10 seconds" ;)
Secondly, the site indicated that the RRP was however much, it's practical value is much less so saying "valued at over .." is a bit misleading.
And I didn't realise you were mostly after opinions.
you guys think i'll be able to go down and check the monitors individually lol!
the thought of 2 x 28 inch monitors just makes me wanna ……. lol!
and also, will they give you a new one if it develops into 4 dead pixels :P
If it's stuck pixel there's always tools like JScreenFix which fixes them for you. I got one stuck in blue on my Eee PC's tiny 7" LCD and JScreenFix fixed it after running the applet for 20 minutes.
agree, dead pixel is annoying
The question is - a couple of pixels are dead and no one has yet called the cops.
Who dun it??
:-p
They are from $689 new on staticice and there is another seller offering the refurbished for $528. If you can handle the risk of 3 dead pixels it seems like a decent deal. Also note that this unit has the cheaper type 160/160 16.2 panel rather than a 178/178 16.7 panel.
