  • Damn. Seems I’ve already used the code :(

    • +1

TGG15 still works to make it $38.21

  • Are these energy monitoring ones?

    • +1

Seems not to be. There’s a 115 as well - maybe that has it.

    • +3

      No. The KP115 is.

      • Is it worth paying the extra to monitor energy usage? Thinking to use it on like a dyson vacuum charger.

        • Why would you turn off and on a vacuum charger remotely? Once it's charged the vaccum will stop charging itself?

          • @Gmetal: I think he/she is after the energy monitoring usage function for a dyson charger

            • @Bafranz: Yeah i guess for curiosity for monitoring energy usage of a charger and how much it continues to consume after charge is full.

          • @Gmetal: Just set it to charge only during day time so can use my solar feed in. It should stop charging once full, but wouldn't it still consume a little power in the charging station?

            • +1

@Penro: Probably about the same as the socket remaining connected to your WiFi

  • Anyone found a smart double socket plug? Can’t find any smart plugs that offer two sockets, other than just using a whole powerboard :/

i have a bunch of LED bars hooked up to storage room that plugs in via a smart switch (like this). I have a smart motion sensor above the door that, when it detects motion, send a "light on" command and the storage room lights up. i have it auto turn off after 2min. very handy when hands are full and i walk in to drop something off.

Electric blanket, though make sure your blanket has physical moving on/off switches that you can leave set to on

      • 100% my favourite

    • +1

Lamps, kettle, desk fan. Very easy to set up and use.

    • I'd use for solar pool heater if they can be used outside

    • +2

I use them on the sockets behind the bed head I can't reach unless I move the bed

I use the KP115 version (same as this but with energy monitoring) for my 10a EV charger at home. It automatically switches off during peak hours (3pm to 9pm) each day to make sure i only ever charge during off-peak. I also have a second one connected to a night light and it switches on at sunset and off at sunrise.

Amazon have the meross smart plugs with energy monitoring for $31.44 2 pack free shipping with prime:

Unfortunately they block the next power plug…a bit of a pain..

      Otherwise they work alright.

      • Good to know

      • are you sure it's this version? this is the slimmer version which don't give me that issue?

    • Cheaper with no energy monitor

meross Smart Plug Works with HomeKit, 2 Piece https://www.amazon.com.au/dp/B096SQ6KZ8/ref=cm_sw_r_apan_glt…

    • Reported issues with higher wattage appliance so buyer beware per your use case. Mine is attached to a prosumer coffee machine so I went with the kp115 for marginally more and haven't had any issues.

  • +1

Are these rated for outdoor use?

    • Own some already, would say they're definitely not rated for exposed use.

  • Does anyone know the real width of this "slim" product? I've seen various of measurement on different websites:

    TGG(eBay): 51.5(H) x 72.5(W) x 37.5(D)
    TGG:76.5 x 43.5 x 62
    Amazon: 8.05 x 10.8 x 4.65 cm
    TP-link official website: 51 x 72 x 40 mm (without pin)

These ones fit good side by side in a standard double wall plate I'm slowly replacing the bulky tp link one's with these all through my house

  • +1

    Are these Tuya based?

  • For anyone that doesn’t want to use Afterpay and has an account, it’s $33 for this on good guys commercial site 😊

  • Is this a good price? …Seems pretty run of the mill.

Can get a similar model TP-Link for 19.95 delivered:

    https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/144158008911?_trkparms=amclksrc%…

    • you are right. this is actually even better. wished I had noticed this. its 14.95 with ebay plus(free delivery)

  • Better off buying the 4x pack from Kogan (as much as it pains me to say buy from Kogan) - better value, plus has the energy monitoring functionality. https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/656298

    • +3

I'm happy to pay more for not Kogan!

      • Just buy the kasa units from bunnings. I have the power monitoring one, paid $24

I use it for fault finding appliances and electronics etc. For fun i see how low I can configure power consumption beyond manufacturer specs for PCs, then run stability tests.

  • Soooooo, does the scheduler require network access to function? I'm thinking about using it to turn off lights and other things in the office after hours, which will include the router, among other things. If it's able to turn itself on, there must be some sort of battery and clock inside?
