Man, these deals do not make being responsible and saving for a house deposit easy. Oh well, will get one of these when I manage to find the spare change for a house in the Hunter…

Just buy the tv and live in the cardboard box, works for me.

      • Great idea. How do you go about affording land large enough for the box?

        • +6

The secret ingredient is crime. Land is cheap is you don't pay for it.

  • can anyone tell the difference in picture for this vs the C1?

    • +2

I think it comes down to the Sony having better colour calibration and image processing, LG has VRR. Whether most consumers will notice the difference probably comes down to use case. "Next-gen" gaming LG has the clear advantage but for movies I think the Sony is preferable.

      • So LG is a gamer tv and this Sony is couch netflix and chill tv? Damn bought the wrong tv.

        • +5

Hard to imagine anyone not enjoying c1, it's brilliant. The best Oled deal of all time was the 65cx for 2340

        • +3

LG is the best rated tv on Rtings for price and Performance, funny how people say the Sony is Soo much better but it's 0.1 of a rating better but each to their own I prefer the lg remote and web os it's fast and works well enough for me as I cant stand the full android os and their basic remote lol

          https://www.rtings.com/tv/reviews/best/tvs-on-the-market

          • @solidussnake: I have a c1 and after using webos I think if the screens were the same price I'd get the sony (once vrr etc is up to the same standard on future Sony models). The 2 2.1 ports isn't a huge issues, but having to swap between Dolby vision is.

          • @solidussnake: Isn't Sony screen reflection more obvious than LG? Not sure if this has to do with matt vs glossy finish.

            • @1cent2much: I think they're both glossy ?? the colour just doesn't seem right when they're matte screens

              • @solidussnake: Maybe I assumed incorrectly. I was just looking at Rtings showing reflections on Sony is more obvious than LG. I'm looking for Living Room TV, so I need to be careful.

        • +4

Either tv is great, I think you'd only have bought the wrong one if you were a hardcore gamer and bought the Sony.

          • +1

@[Deactivated]: Cool thanks yeah I have been using the new C1 for less than a weeks and is a great TV. I am not a gamer at all. I get motion sickness playing games.

@Mahalo: According to Vincent Steph of HDTV test Panasonic has made some of the best OLEDs, better than Sony and LG’s own. Vincent is a professional calibrator plus every year he hosts a group of his industry pals where they get to view each of the top TVs each year after calibration and rate them. Panasonic wins over the last decade. Problem is JB-HiFi and by extension TGG didn’t want to work with Panasonic so they pulled out of Australia selling TVs entirely.

We are a small market and if the dominant retailer puts your best rated TV on the bottom shelf and doesn’t even power it on then makes it hard to sell many. JB HiFi has always been about profit margin over the best product for a customer.

              • +1

@snooksy: Incorrect they all had paid walls at JB hi-fi and the TVs just didn't sell, sure they had great panels but no one wanted them they had no drive to push them and also commission wise… They never did any training events or helped push them, also the smart software was just awful, they literally pulled out of the Australian market overnight and stopped paying their bills for their wall and at the time I helped pull it down at the Carindale store, happy they stopped selling them they were a pain in the arse quality wise and their reps just didn't give a shit

                • @solidussnake: I’ve got 2 Panasonic TVs at home. One VT65 Plasma in the bedroom and a Panasonic OLED in the living room. I agree Panasonic Australia’s customer service in is/was not great but their TVs are awesome. I run Apple TV’s for my apps and not the included smart TV stuff. That stuff gets out of date on all TVs anyway. It’s a shame because the two TVs I have both still have amazing PQ with very accurate colours and saturation. The motion on the Plasma is still beautiful today.

The issue with the later model Panasonic Plasmas was they overheated. My ST60 died because I wall mounted it. The VT65 has more fans in it and I never wall mounted it.

I don’t like that HB HiFi has paid wall space. You have HiFi in your name but not much about your company is to do with HiFi. As I said and you agreed with me on, it’s about profit margins vs. The best products for consumers. I don’t really shop there at JB and prefer the smaller hi fi stores around town for equipment. JB has never really stocked the products I buy - Denon, NAD, Panasonic, Monitor Audio, etc.

Sony just released an update which added VRR

        • +3

I can’t see any confirmation of that. Seems like it was only the X9000H

    • There's good comparisons on rtings.com I had a look and unless you had them side by side in your house it would be hard to tell what brand is better, only downside with LG is you have to tweak it when you set it up whereas the Sony is pretty good out of the box

    • I think that the G1 is a pretty similar price now, an insane deal. I am a Sony fan of but I would go with the G1 over the A80J.

    • +2

Sony A90J OLED was crowned "King of 4K TV" during this year TV shoot out host by some members of the infamous AVS Forum. It actually did a clean sweep and won on every display category except for gaming since they don't test gaming at this event but if you are heavy into gaming then get the C1.

    • I would say it would be hard press to notice the difference for regular people unless u set it up side by side? May be wrong. I personally tossing between x95j and a80j. Not a gamer n leaning towards x95j due to price and brighter room.

Price matched with Sony AU Website, which included free delivery. Also went through Cashrewards for possible 2% cashback .

    • +1

      7% on CRs.

    • My price match request was rejected, anyone here managed to price match?

      • Yes, I was able to, hence the comment :).

@sm0: I logged in and only gave me 2%. I am new to the whole cashrewards thing though ( hence the word possbile as never followed the process before ).

        • Did you use eBay/TGG for retailer and did you just use the webform on the product page?

          • @jaymzrsa: Yes, I put the ebay link into the firm. I also screenshot it to jpg just in case as well.

      • Mine too. Rejection is hard :(
"Price match does not match the retail's current advertised price"

      • +1

Ok, my request just got approved after trying a third time, must have a different guy on shift now. Just over $3k after cashback from CR is a really good price.

        • Mine was also approved after the second try. Made sure I didn’t just put in “Goodguys” but put in “Goodguys EBay take off $569.25”.
Was told to create a Sony account so they could adjust the price.
          Thanks OP.

        • +1

          Ditto. Third time lucky :)

    • +1

Price match approved for me. It didn't adjusted the price in the cart at first place so I called them and they modified the price for me.
Placed the order through CRs so expecting $200 cashback as well.

  • +1

Take about 5 mins getting price match approval.
$3225.75 get 65”A80J, and $205.28 from CB. (Yesterday was 2%, today increasing to 7%. 🤞🏿)
Final price is $3020.47. It’s the best price since it launched. Thanks Oz

  • Got the price match too and hopefully 7% CR cashback. Happy Sunday folks!

  • Managed to price match with Sony and get 7% CR too. Newbie question… does 7% CR only apply to the total without GST?

    • Yes. That s what I got too

      • How did you guys get Sony to price match TGG? What detail did you give?

        • Just mentioned the price after discount in TGG ebay store. Not sure if the discount is still available though

  • For all you Sony versus LG folks out there, just remember, Sony uses an LG OLED panel :)

  • 55" unlisted/sold out?

  • +1

Question to those that got the 7% off ( or think they did!), does it show up in your cart at check out or make mention of it……?

Last night Sony price matched the 77 inch model at $5995 however are telling me they wont honour the 7% ( another $420 off ) from Cash Rewards ….am having "discussions" with Sony Customer Service at moment.

    • You will need to go through Cash Rewards for the 7% which will not show in the Sony cart but the Cash Rewards app or website.
Mine is still pending for a $205 cash back in the Cash Rewards app.
      Hope that helps.

      • Do you have any idea like normally how long it take Cash Rewards to approve the credit? Mine says estimated January 2022 which is kind of too long

        • The two times I've used cash rewards, it took 100+ days to get the credit, so Jan 2022 doesn't sound unexpected.

  • +2

I received my TV yesterday, its quite nice and very easy to setup…

    • Did you order from GG eBay or Sony? I ordered from the former and am still waiting …

      • +1

        Sony with price match

  • +1

How did you guys manage to submit the price match on Sony website? I put all the details in and click the orange "Make An Offer" button but nothing happens, the website didn't show any message.

    • +1

You will need to click on the green “Make an offer” button instead. Just below the orange.

      • Cheers mate, was able to submit the request to try my luck but got rejected (of course) as TGG deal has expired

  • Has anyone noticed how bent the panel is. My 65 is bent outwards on left and rigt side top is slight bit. This is OCD nightmare whevrer I look at it.

    • +1

Mine seems spot on. I would think of returning it if I were you. I’m also OCD about those things.

      • Lucky you. Seems like bent/rippled panel is common on larger sizes from SONY. Possibly manufacturing. Some discussion on AVSForum.
