no N64 controller yet it seems.

maybe they are waiting till the service is out

  • +1

I bought these at full price and love them, especially the SNES controller.

Sometimes Nintendo stuff goes up in price over time, too. I wouldn't wait to try and get these second hand cheaper than this.

  • +1

I was wondering why the NES controllers were so much more expensive than the SNES controllers (esp at RRP), but then realised it's for a 2-pack - tempting!

  • +3

Wish the SNES was a two pack so I could already have a spare pair, because the Start and select buttons will always be brittle when a fit of rage quit happens.

    • Can't you just buy 2? Looks like a purchase limit of 4 per customer.

      • Currently use two, already have a spare pair, but need another spare backup pair. Going to need to buy another account just to get a few extra controllers.

NES can have four pairs, because they are sold as a boxed pair.

        • Say what. You can only buy so many controllers on one nintendo store account?

          • @DMFD: Yep, 8 single nes, 4 single snes. -sad panda face-

            • -2

@Damonator84: That is bs and needs to be reported to some ombudsman.

Give one back to nintendo for all the sites they take offline and wont let you have an extra f@$(ing controller.

        • +1

Maybe see if anyone can add you to their family membership, even if temporarily, so you can buy it. If I had room on mine I'd be okay with it, but mine's full.

Otherwise I guess it's only $5.95 for a month, so with the savings on the controllers it might be worth it anyway.

  • Can you buy while on the trial?

    • +1

Fine print down the bottom says not available for free trial membership

      • Missed that thanks

  • +1

Wow, great buy. I just picked up 2 NES and 2 SNES.

  • +9

In case you're all wondering, combined the two come to $79.90. 10c shy of free postage.

    • +2

      Typical Nintendo.

I got around it last time by adding a Nintendo HDMI cable to the cart.

It's not as cheap as a cheapo amazon or ebay cable, but much much better build quality, should last for many years.

  • Could these be used with a non-Switch console; e.g., a MiSTer? Is it just standard Bluetooth?

    • If you can use a normal switch controller you should be able to use these

    • Worst case, we'd probably have to pair it with an 8Bitdo or Mayflash, which work out of the box on the MiSTer.

    • +1

Yep with an 8bitdo receiver as idonotknowwhy mentioned, or BT.
Looks like the mode they are set to makes a big difference with latency: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1KlRObr3Be4zLch7Zyqg6…

    • Yeah they can, I use the SNES controllers (with the 8bitdo receiver) for my Super NT

  • +6

Hope they keep this sale going with the 64 ones release. The free shipping amount is always just too high.

    • I always hated the N64 controller growing up, but these days I kind of miss it.
I'll be buying one of these once it's released so hopefully as you said, the sale is still on.

      • -1

I'm not sure what to do. The genuine 64 controller always sucked.

The third party makopad 64/superpad 64 was the best one:

        https://www.ebay.com/itm/202874602039

Better yet, it didn't have the mechanical problems of the Nintendo analog stick.

However.. I presume no adaptor exists.

        • +1

I disagree. The N64 controllers were designed as a two on one, you could hold the centre and left grips for some games and centre and right for other games, ah hell even all three grips of your hands were big enough like mine.

          • @Damonator84: The pads i linked didn't need different hand positions as all buttons are always accessible

          • @Damonator84: Yeah I get that. It's like a SNES controller for 2d games, and a dreamcast-ish controller for 3d games.

I exclusively played 3D games on that console and it always felt awkward having the 3rd handle to my left.

I agree about the Gamecube controller being awesome btw :)
I've still got mine and use it regularly.

        • Those actually look pretty amazing!

I bought one of those famous Hori controllers in Japan, the one which looks like a gamecube controller.
Was even worse for me though, my hands are too big.

I don't think they'll have an adapter for the Switch

Nothing beats the super famicon controller, way comfort and superior user interface and experience over takes with anything else.

      The SNES controller?

  • +1

Serious question, do the NES/SNES controllers work well with other platforms whether it be PC, Mac, Android, etc…?

I have an 8BitDo SN30+ which works great and was wondering if it's worth getting the SNES one of these for that purpose. I'm also wondering if I want an official N64 controller too since unfortunately none of the other controllers feel 'right' when playing N64 games!

    • +1

I would like to know this too

    • Only annoying thing with the nes these need to be on the switch rails to charge I thought? Or an external switch charging dock.

      • Yeah that's true. I was thinking more for the SNES controller which is standalone, or if I should stick with 8BitDo options which seem to be more universal across other platforms… but the Nintendo fan inside me thinks, it's not the official controller :'(

        • I have a few nes30 and would use that more than any of the official Nintendo pads. But definitely getting some as it's on special and getting one when their discontinued with any Nintendo product is rediculous. I'd rather make that decision later that I don't use it and would more than likely get back what I've paid.

Definitely buying the N64 when that goes on sale.

  • Picked up a SNES controller and some platinum point rewards, didn't want to chance Nintendo ending the sale before they released the N64 controllers.

  • Best way to get platinum points?

I play nintendo games, buy and browse on the eshop and get nothing. It's illogical.

Mainly from their Mobile Games (Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp, Fire Emblem Heroes, Super Mario Run)

    • +1

Their mobile games give out a decent amount each week if you play them and complete the missions for them.

Animal Crossing Pocket Camp gives you 180 points a week.

Super Mario Run gives you 120 points a week.

All the login missions add up to 90 points a week.

  • +1

    Can't even log in.

    Honestly.

  • These are really good quality but some people might be better off getting an 8bitdo SN30 Pro (shaped like a SNES controller). With sticks and triggers, they are much more versatile.

    • This. I've got the SN30Pro and its fantastic.

These not having a home button is a shame. Otherwise without analog sticks you're really limited, but I understand thats the only way to even be close to authentic, feel wise.

Do these work on PC without a dongle? If not, no buy…

  • thanks got snes

  • Is it possible to connect these to the SNES Mini?

    • -3

      No.

    • +6

Yes it is with the 8bitdo Retro Receiver.

Just flash it with the latest firmware v1.19 and then it will sync no problems.

It also works with the original SNES hardware using the SNES Retro Receiver.

The NES controllers also work with the NES mini and the original NES hardware.

  • Can I purchase with a NSO family membership? I cant seem to add to cart.

    • +1

      Worked fine for me.

From the product page: Please note: Orders are limited to four controllers per Nintendo Account with paid Nintendo Switch Online individual or family membership. Offer not available for free trial membership. A system update (9.0 NUP) is required in order to use Super Nintendo Entertainment System Controllers with Nintendo Switch console.

      • thank you!

  • Man I wouldn't mind a set but don't have nos. Will have to check if my nephew or nieces have a subscription.

  • Are these controllers good to work with any Switch games or just NES or SNES games?

    Don’t mind the dumb question!

    • Probably not the nes controller for switch games, as there are only a and b buttons.

These are for nostalgic experience with the NSO subscription (SNES,nes collection). For a better experience go the sn30 pro, like others have mentioned here.

  • Thanks. bloody N64 controllers sold out already, gonna wait for a sale I think.
