      I’ve seen quite a few ozbargain members report that store staff get hostile if you do this lmao. Pretty sure last I heard a member was accused of some elaborate fraud.

    Amex Platinum card holder

    After seeing this I logged into my app and saw $450 qantas credit offer I could save to my card - spend $450 get $450 back which is the same as what is meant to come with the annual fee each year.

    I'm in my 12th month and was going to cancel the card in the next 2 weeks (card approval was 26/10/2021). Did they perhaps give me the credit too early?

    Wonder if can spend it and then cancel card…

      Nowhere in the terms does it say that it will replace your Amex Travel Credit. Maybe reach out to them? Seems a bit odd

      The terms looks like it's separate from the Amex Travel Credit…. Althought the HN terms also don't mention it…

    I saved the offer and lost my travel credit that was supposed to expire by the end of November. Went on chat and this is what I was told
    "Due to ongoing travel restrictions, Card Members have not been able to use their 2021 Travel Credit, so we are now offering the chance to receive Statement Credits to offer flexibility to use the value of your Travel Credit."

      No you didn't . This offer simply replaces it and extends it to the end of the year

      This means it will no longer appear in the usual travel credit location, and I guess will be processed as a statement credit.

      T&C's "Use your credit on Amex travel or HN. "

    My Explorer has been active for 3 months and I don't have the offer.

    Spoke to chat agent, apparently the offer is only valid for members with Travel Credit expiring on 31 December 2021.

    My travel credit of $400 expires 07/22. Saved this HN statement credit to my card, travel credit remains. I used $0 of it last year, so would make sense if I got to keep both.

    It sounds like this offer has been programmed poorly, some people get to keep the Travel credit, some don't, some got targeted. Total discrimination by Amex.

    Just contacted their customer service and got the following replies:

    From what an agent told me last month they were working on something to provide Card Members with more flexibility in how we could find value in the 2021 TC.

    This is only for people who had TC expiring between 01/07/2021 to 31/12/2021.

    My travel credit is intact. Expires next year.

    Also got a $200 refund of the annual fee for last year as i never used the travel credit due to multiple lockdowns. Had to dispute it though with ombudsman

      I have multiple travel credits stacked up, they all expire next year. They kept extending my expiry due to lockdowns so nothing expired.

      What prompted you to go to the ombudsman?

        They werent interested in engaging in any dispute resolution and then recommended i complain to ombudsman, so i did as they suggested.

          So this also for expired travel credit if you didnt used it.

    Platinum charge here… have $450 and $400 TC expiring Jan 2022 and didn't get the offer.

    I did some research and it should be TC expiring between July - Dec 2021… but why are some others getting it when their TC expires next year like mine.

    It's actually stupid having an offer in October… for TC expiring between July - December… everyone in July - October would've used theirs already… so it's really October to December… they should've done it October to March or something

      As with any statement credit… it will be charged to your account… and then they'll give it back to you as a credit on the statement in a few days. So in a credit card format… yes "you don't have to pay anything"

    i have no Travel Credits left. However im due for a top up October 31st for my Plat Edge and December for my Charge. Got offered $400 and $450 Travel Credit swap for both. Saved it for my Charge and will go to Harvey Norman this weekend to see if i get a credit or not and wait until December to see if i still get my Annual refresh of the Travel credit.

    AMEX charge has been exceptional value this last 12 months. Like others have mentioned, 2 x $400 Supermarket, $300 dinner, $200 DJs, $850 Travel credits used for Staycations, $150 net a porter credit, numerous small business credit challenges of $20 just to name a few. Fair to say im happy with the value! If i can get $450 extra for a purchase at Harvey Normans i'll be laughing!!

      I agree with what you have indicated. AMEX charge has been very very good value! I think I managed to get Harvey Norman credit as well, for travel credit that I already used up (for Platinum Reserve). Let's see if they will give me $400 credit in a few days, as I purchased something from Harvey Norman online already.

    Talked with an amex supervisor today about another matter but she brought up this offer. My annual fee was paid in August and I never (obviously) got to use the credits on any of my cards so they expired. This credit is retrospective to my last membership period and has not impact on my current (post August) credits. She said it was a way of acknowledging that members basically received zero value on their membership over the last 18 months.

      It is insanely high but it's not hard to make significantly more back. For example if you get the platinum card you can also get the platinum reserve for free that gives you an additional $450 travel credit (or HN credit in this offer) totaling $900 before shop small, a year's worth of random offers and all the membership benefits. Throw in the point earn on everything you spend that can be used to pay off your ballance, sometimes at double the value when the offer comes along or travel etc it's not hard to see why this is possible.

          AFAIK, it's possible to get the platinum reserve, it's just that it won't come with a $400 travel credit on the reserve so it becomes almost pointless. The only benefits I can see from getting the reserve are:
          - You get another bite of the cherry on Amex offers
          - 55 days interest free instead of 44 days on the Plat Charge
          - You get another set of supplementary cardholders if you hand them out to extended family, and you have run out of free slots on your Plat Charge

      You will go HN, spend $400. The charge would appear on the Amex statement as usual, but amex will credit the statement by $400. Nothing goes from your pocket.

    Went to Harvey Norman last Thursday and spent $471. Just checked my account and received my $450 credit 2 days later. This is without having ANY current Travel credits as i have used them up already. Im due for my Travel Credit topup in December so now to play the waiting game to see if i get it or not.

    I got this offer assigned to me when claimed on my forfeited travel credit $200 during the lockdown. If your unused travel credit expire during the valid dates range (please check with them on specific month 2020-2021), you can get this offer as alternative solution to re-activate the expired travel credit. Anyway, I don't consider this as the benefit offer, but they make you feel like tho.

    But it was valid according to t and c.
