Cheers. Been on the lookout for a deal on the Naga X to program for photoshop/indesign/illustrator.

Damn, bought the Basilisk X last week for $2 more, very good for it's price, not sure what all the hate is about.

    • +1

      Maybe spotty connectivity?

I got a Basilisk X as well and it works great for me most of the time. But when I use it after work on my bed and I lay on my side my fat arse blocks the signal sometimes 😅

      • -2

wireless gang g305 10m range haha

    • +2

There's a bit of hate because how they've blatantly copied the G502 design but I'm with you, super happy with it for the price.

      • Apart from the AA battery requirements (we all have ikealoops/eneloops by now..) and no RGB lights (not personally concerned), this is an excellent mouse IMO

        • +1

I prefer AA batteries, to be honest. My desk is already full of bloody wires already, don't need another one to have to charge my mouse.

        • I would have sided you… Before I bought my Basilisk X.

AA batteries may seem like a thing of the past, but it's really the future. The single AA battery in this mouse will last me 1 year of usage (Will vary depending on person). I have a lot of AA batteries lying around and don't mind having to replace the battery.

A rechargeable battery in this mouse would succumb to battery wear over time, while AA batteries can be interchanged forever.

But when I say that I have a "lot of AA batteries lying around", I seriously do lol. I'm happy that I finally get to use them with this mouse haha

          • @Zackeroo:

Surely you would have every eneloops colour in your collection by now?

I thought we all buy now, find a use later on OzB?

            • @cwongtech: I think he means built in, non removable, rechargable batteries like a lot of wireless peripherals use nowadays.

  • Need a new mouse to use at work. So won't be able to install any software etc.

Would the Basilisk be a good option or should I just save up for a mx master. I was looking at the Rapoo MT750S because I like the idea of horizontal scroll in excel but not sure on the quality of that mouse.

If you have eneloops already, go for Basilisk.

MX Master definitely feels more solid and heavier but one could also argue that means you need to move your hand more (more hand fatigue) vs the Basilisk.
MX Master would have more battery life as well.

Personally I have NEVER used the horizontal scroll wheel

Especially Excel, you should be using Ctrl + Left/Right or Ctrl + F for that for large data sets

      • +1

If you present large worksheets, it's handy to have. Also useful for scrolling between tabs. However, I'm pretty sure you need to install the Logitech Options software to enable that functionality. It's not natively supported.

    • Work Admins playing the fool?

      Stuff them

I daresay software installation should impact your buying choice. Will they really not do it for you if you ask nicely?

        Work Admins playing the fool?
        Stuff them

Guaranteed to be a great career move 👌

      • Nah. It's government. No chance haha. Can't even have a bin at my desk lol.

        • I work in government. We can ask IT to install required software. I had Logitech Gaming Software installed so I could use my G9x and G19.

        • Yea, that's agile for you. Just see my link. you'll be okay for the install, so get it while you can, if you really want it.

  • For a some reason, the g502 is giving my hand cramps but I need all the macro buttons

I can recommend the (also on sale) Razer Naga Trinity for work and home with the 7 button layout. After a few years I can barely function without it, even just for browsing. Have not yet had any issues.

  • Naga X: not enough space for the thumb. Most likely you'll press one or two of the buttons just moving the mouse around

Trinity with 7 button layout mentioned above somewhat fixes that, and may be a better option if you need lots of side buttons

But personally I prefer G604 for more comfortable layout and plenty of controls plus decent thumb rest

    • Most likely you'll press one or two of the buttons just moving the mouse around

You get used to it after a while. I've been using the Naga series for almost a decade now and don't have any accidental clicks… anymore.

      • I used to use those as well, but I noticed how uncomfortable for the thumb this is, always holding it up like that

when I tried G604 I felt instant difference that I can just rest my thumb on the almost horizontal surface when those side buttons aren't needed. I immediately gave away all my Naga's and never looked back

        • What’s the measurement of your hand?

    • I really don't think you should comment on products you don't own as it is misleading. Anyone that owns a Naga would disagree with the comments you made as do I and the other long term users of the mouse that replied to you earlier. I have never accidentally pressed the buttons on the mouse and my thumb is perfectly relaxed, sitting on the mouse mat. I have very small hands so unless you are a dwarf, I dont see how you could have actually used this mouse and think the thumb position is uncomfortable.

  • Massive fan of the Naga series. Been using them for almost a decade. Buyer beware though, the Naga's are easily worn down. I usually need to replace every 2 years because the springs in the left/right click and the middle mouse scroll won't click either. Some Naga's have had sensor issues where it would zoom across the screen if you lift it up even a millimetre to reposition.

For this price though, definitely pull the trigger if you've been waiting for one.

  • Anyone happen to have any Amazon codes that work with this? first time app purchases etc? I recall $10 off but think it's expired since August

  • +2

I had to return Razer Basilisk X, it randomly disconnects from the wireless adapter after going to sleep. This is a known issue, check the reviews before you purchase.

  • Thanks OP. I didn't buy one but checked it out and found Amazon has Viper Mini on sale $39 with free delivery for non-prime. Not the lowest ever at $34 but still a great price.

  • Have owned a few Naga's in the past and they've all conked out over time in one way or another. Plus I found Synapse to unstable between PC and mac. Currently using a G600 and it is rock solid, plus the bindings are stored internally so no need to setup on new computers (not sure if the new Naga's do that now but the old ones didn't).

  • My G Pro X still hasn't arrived yet but I want to try the DeathAdder v2 Pro.

Anyone with experience with both? Which do you prefer?

I've been a G9x and MX Master 3 (more recently) user for the most part.

    • whats your hand size, width and length (guides on reddit to do this for mice) and what grip do you use? claw, fingertip or palm?

although tbh id really say the gpx works for all hand sizes in any grip with good comfort other than small hands fingertip gripping.

      • I'm a palmer ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°) through and through with relatively small hands (7.5 x 17cm). So you think the gpx will be fine for me?

        Cheers.

        • +1

yes it will be perfectly good

          • @abjsdhasehasee: Cheers buddy. At least it'll go with the G915 I got recently. :D

  • My Razer Basilisk battery never said full after use my Eneloop.

    • +1

      1.5v vs 1.2v

      • Yeah, so it will use faster, right?

        • Yeah, so it will use faster, right?

          Short answer, not necessarily

According to this link for energy density from epec tech

          Type: alkaline (zinc–manganese dioxide)
          Energy Density: 0.4-0.59 MJ/kg

          Eneloops/rechargeables fall under NiMH
          Energy Density: >0.36 MJ/kg

I weighed a couple of batteries for you

Note: this is a crude estimation as there might be more packing metal on different batteries due to the way they're made (energy density should ideally be compared for electrolyte level weight only.

          Anyway:
Energy Max AA that came with the Razer mouse = 24g
          24g x 1kg/1000g x (0.4-0.59)MJ/1kg = **0.0096 ~ 0.01416 MJ **

I have three rechargeable LSD batteries as a sample:
Eneloop AA (min 1900 mAh), 26g
          26g x 1kg/1000g x 0.36 MJ/1kg = 0.00936 MJ

Turning AA LSD (2400 mAh), 29g
          29g x 1kg/1000g x 0.36 MJ/1kg = 0.01044 MJ

Turning AA LSD (2550 mAh), 30g
          30g x 1kg/1000g x 0.36 MJ/1kg = 0.0108 MJ

Given that we can't tell which value (0.4~0.59MJ/kg) for alkaline, we can guess it should be comparable.

My Razer Basilisk battery never said full after use my Eneloop.

However, reading a battery capacity is normally done by estimating voltage, while the quoted chemistry voltage is 1.2V for Eneloops, when it is fully charged, it sits around 1.45V and slowly drains to around 1.15V before the battery becomes unusable.

Since the Basilisk's voltage would have been calibrated for Alkaline batteries at 1.5V, it will never read FULL as Eneloop batteries (which is NiMH) voltage will float around 1.15V~1.45V

        • Eneloop vs Alkaline (for a DSLR Speedlite)
          https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n9WpLjnmMsM

Result: Eneloop was better despite the lower voltage
