Wow, that's what I've been waiting for. Eb cards.

    • 5 cards done. Need one more promo for halo

  • Can we use this to pay for an iPhone at jb hifi during lockdown? Online pay?

    • Instore only

    • +4

As stated in OP's note: Ultimate Gift Cards can only be used when the physical card is present to process the transaction. Not available for use online.

  • Yeah, but there is a problem with taking up this offer. I'm pretty sure it will count to your account spend and cause you to have less good offers very quickly. How many Flybuys accounts do others have? I would think it might be worth having multiple FB accounts sot hat one or two, perhaps three, could act like "burner" cards and without regard to the problems of effecting offers.

    • +1

I have 3 that I cycle through, in my experience the spending record resets after around 1.5-2 months of inactivity. Considering these promos don’t come around that often, as well as a lot of it happening at Woolies instead, I would say 2 flybuys and 2 everyday rewards is good enough to take advantage :)

The big benefit of flybuys is that I just discovered the other day that the points can be converted to giftcards - ie more Jb hifi giftcards. That’s as close to true $ savings as it gets without them handing you straight cash.

      • For me, I discovered they can be converted 3:1 to Krisflyer miles via velocity program, once that is all up and running again (currently suspended)………

        • Would love for that feature to comeback (that was a very important feature), but nothing seems certain. 10000 FB = 5000 Velocity = 3226 KF points (1.55 Velocity : 1 KF). Its been 18 months. Heard if was expensive for Velocity to sustain. We will see.

          • @Networks919: Do you guys value 1 KF more than 1.55 Velocity?

            • @tripdubz: SQ was the way to go for Star Alliance. We will see how international travel goes next year but I think its worth transferring to KF. Useful for international redemptions.

        • @zan5hin @Networks919 @tripdubz Why so many people are after KF Points rather Qantas/Velocity etc … I have seen it before on OzB, but couldn't understand.

          • +1

@ChipsChicky: KF points are more useful for international travel as you can fly on Singapore Airlines or its partner airlines including their Star Alliance partners. KF point redemptions are also not too shabby, although there's been a couple devaluations over the past few years. IMHO, KF is more useful for those near Perth as they price WA in a different zone than the other states. The redemption table is not so attractive for departures from SYD/MEL. So I personally am on the fence whether 1 KF = 1.55 Velocity, but can see how others would think it is.

          • +1

            @ChipsChicky: https://www.pointhacks.com.au/best-things-about-krisflyer/

I've been targeting Krisflyer for 3 years starting with my first AMEX card, unfortunately my miles will expire in April 2022 unless I start using them.

I've done a LONE5 (Oneworld Explorer RTW / 5 continents / economy) ten years ago, and wanna earn 240k krisflyer to do a five to six week Star Alliance RTW in business. But with all this isolating and PCR tests, who knows…. so I'm gonna burn the expiring miles with a return trip to Asia in biz and then aim for RTW in 2023.

      • can you pay via flybuys dollars for giftcards ?

        • +2

No, but the flybuy rewards store allows you to redeem points for giftcards at basically the same rates as 2000 points = 10 dollars.

        • +1

Do note that they're physical giftcards that they take a few weeks to post to you though. So there's that.

    • We have multiple accounts and do have a card for this kind of deal and it gets no other bonus offers of note. We have 3 FB and 12 ED cards.

    • Agreed. I usually spend about $15-20 per week at Coles, but after purchasing a lot of gift cards through Flybuys offers over the last few months, my targeted Flybuys offers have gone from a $60 minimum spend to a $300 minimum spend.

Oh well, Woolworths is my main supermarket, so I really don't care if my targeted Flybuys offers go through the roof.

  • Do JB have back to school offers similar to Apple for purchasing laptops?

    • I don’t think so, but they regularly run 10% off deals for M1 MacBook Pros and M1 MacBook Airs. These deals exclude build-to-order laptops (e.g. M1 MacBook Air with 16GB RAM), so keep that in mind.

  • Anyone know if flybuys dollars can be used to purchase?

      • +1

        lol @ neg
It's the only way you're going to purchase with flybuys dollars and get bonus points.

    • I know you can redeem $10 at checkout. But if you convert $50 to flybuys dollars can you use full amount towards gift cards?

      • -3

        Yes you can

        • +2

          unfortunately you cannot

            • @Kenryuichi: I tried it myself lmao

              • @Jollystacker: Ok my bad. I always thought i can use flybuys dollars to buy anything in coles. Thanks tho for correcting me

                • @Kenryuichi: ye i was hopeful but it makes sense since flybuys points are really easy to acquire and it would be very easy to flip them into gift cards

            • +1

@Kenryuichi: I tried it a few weeks ago at Coles and got an “Invalid Product Mix” error.

      • +1

Pretty sure you can only purchase gift cards with flybuys from Kmart

  • So these are physical cards right? But when you get them your can use them on online stores is that right?

    • +1

Note: Ultimate Gift Cards can only be used when the physical card is present to process the transaction. Not available for use online.

  • I was under the impression the ultimate cards can be converted into JB GC’s?

    • -2

You absolutely can, I did it a few days ago

      • Did you do so instore or online?

        • My mistake, a bit of googling shows these are different from the normal HIM gift cards

    • +2

You are confusing them with the TCN HIM, HER, TEEN etc cards. These are 'Ultimate' cards.

      • Cheers nate

  • +1

You can now redeem the flybuys points you receive to get The Card Network gift cards too, though not the Online card. Currently a 10% points back on the redemptions, up to 20k points back max from memory. So buying bonus points cards for JB Hifi generates points to get discounted JB Hifi cards :)

  • Nice excuse to fund those Pokémon anniversary celebrations boxes, now only if the cards don't disappear from the shelves on D Day

  • Great deal as I'm considering buying something from JB Hi-fi but 10 (Kids + Teens) per Flybuys and can only be used instore. Fair enough. I think they will be all gone by the time I get there though.

    • Eftpos cards aren't popular and never sell out .

    • Misread it. Its actually 5 gift cards for this offer. So $250…

      • +1

Just get more accounts. When we used some to by an Air-con, JB cashier said 63 gift cards for one sale was the record.

  • +1

Can these cards be used instore in JB to buy other gift cards like Steam/PS+?

    • +6

That is a bit of a grey area.

These cards are essentially EFTPOS gift cards that can only be redeemed at the participating businesses listed on the card. When you swipe the card at the checkout, JB Hi-Fi's POS system treats it as if it is an Visa/Mastercard/Amex card. Therefore, the POS system cannot distinguish this card from (for example) a Visa debit card issued by a bank. However, the grey area is whether you are actually allowed to do that.

      • I had a chat with a couple of JB Hi-Fi staff late last year in the aftermath of the diabolical 15% off TCN gift card deal, and they said they were instructed to prevent TCN gift cards or Ultimate gift cards from being used to purchase gift cards. However, they did not clarify whether "gift cards" meant gift cards issued by JB Hi-Fi or Apple/Steam/PS+ gift cards.

      • There is no publicly-available information on the JB Hi-Fi website to indicate what these EFTPOS gift cards can or cannot be used for.

      • On the TCN website, it clearly states under the FAQ section that you cannot use a TCN gift card to purchase a JB Hi-Fi gift card. It also states in clause 3 of the gift card T&Cs that you subject always to the individual trading terms of each participating retailer. To me, that sounds like JB Hi-Fi can choose to stop you from using a TCN gift card if they feel like it.

      • On the Ultimate gift card website, clause 4 of the terms and conditions state that Ultimate Gift Cards cannot … have their balances consolidated to a new gift card. "Gift card" is not defined anywhere, so that statement makes it sound like it is against the terms and conditions to purchase an Apple/Steam/PS+ gift card at JB Hi-Fi using an Ultimate Gift Card.

Personally, I would use one of these EFTPOS gift cards to purchase an Apple/Steam/PS+ gift card at JB Hi-Fi, and I would discreetly use it (e.g. remove the cardboard packaging, memorise the PIN before walking into JB Hi-Fi, hold the gift card in a way that it doesn't show the branding to staff). The TCN gift card would be easier to use discreetly, as you can add it to an Apple Wallet instead of having to use a physical EFTPOS gift card.

      • Yeah that's what I was thinking but do JB actually sell itunes giftcards? Would be good to buy from Apple Store during the back to school promo.

        • They should sell Apple gift cards. They used to sell App Store & iTunes gift cards, but Apple stopped selling them on 09 July, and I assume that the old iTunes gift cards have been replaced with Apple gift cards.

I haven’t been to a JB Hi-Fi store since July (because lockdowns), so I cannot confirm 100%.

          • @WookieMonster: have you tried to buy the apple gift cards at JB using these gift cards yet? Planning to do the same

            • @armyofme: Nope, not yet. I may try my hand at it in the next couple of months.

There was another discussion about this a while ago, so you may want to ask some of the people involved in that discussion.

It seems it depends on whether the people at the JB Hi-Fi store you visit are actually looking out for the type of card you’re using to pay for Apple gift cards. Once Ultimate Gift Cards can be added to mobile wallets, it would be easier to get away with doing that…

  • Sorry, maybe I'm being daft but I'm not sure what the wording of being used multiple times mean.

Can I buy 5 of the ultimate students gift cards to get $250 for $200? Or does it have to be 5 different gift card types?

    • Any 5 cards per flybuys account. Bonus is in flybuys points you get back on groceries etc later. Almost the same as cash back because everyone buys food. So you will pay face value for the cards but get flybuys points to use later.

    • +2

      Mental finance:

      1 - 200/250 = 20% off

      Reality:

      1 - 250/300 = 16.7% off

      • +2

Your maths is slightly off, because you haven't taken into account the fact that the purchase of third-party gift cards at Coles also earns standard Flybuys points.

For example, if you purchase a $50 Ultimate gift card in this promotion, you will earn 50 standard Flybuys points and 2000 bonus Flybuys points. If you purchase 5x $50 Ultimate gift cards as part of this promotion, that is a total of 10250 Flybuys points (equivalent to $51.25).

        Mental finance:

        1 - 198.75/250 = 20.5% off

        Reality:

        1 - 250/301.25 = 17.0% off

Coles Financial Customers can instantly redeem 2000 Flybuys points for a $10 discount when purchasing gift cards at Coles, so that can skew the calculations again.

      • +1

I'm not sure what you are trying to achieve with this.

        • It’s the never-ending argument on OzBargain as to whether you are supposed to equate Flybuys or Everyday Rewards points you earn on gift card purchases as:

          • an upfront discount (which is what the “mental finance” alludes to), or
          • a bonus “gift card” that you need to redeem on a future transaction to earn its full benefit (which is what the “reality” refers to).

Keep in mind that you cannot redeem Everyday Rewards points on future gift card transactions at Woolworths, and you can only redeem Flybuys points on future gift card transactions at Coles in very specific scenarios, so this will limit the appeal of these kind of deals for some people.

  • great

  • Is there a limit of how many Ultimate Gift Cards you can use in 1 transaction in store at JB?

    • +1

      There is no specific limit.

However, if you go to a JB Hi-Fi store during a busy time and you haven’t scratched the cards to reveal the PINs, you will slow down the checkout process and staff will probably be less willing to serve you.

      • Bit hard not to serve you if you are already at the checkout.

    • +2

63 was the record at the store I went to. 14 is the most I have used.

    • I used to work in a dept store selling tvs long ago in my teens. Someone bought a mid weight tv with $5 giftcards. The system maxed out. Thats where I learned that the store has the ability to merge them into a single card. Before purchasing it might be worthwhile asking if this can be done first if you feel it will take too long.

      • Different kind of gift card.

  • +2

Stacks well with commbank rewards cashback. Extra 10% off.

    • I have $5 offer only from commbank for spending $100.

      • +1

I have $5 offer as well.

    • gift card purchases excluded?

  • How do people have multiple Flybuys accounts?

I grabbed 3 of the temporary cards today, but they seem to want to have it registered? This seems to require a mobile number.

Can I redeem the 2000 points off the temporary card without registration?

    • +1

I grabbed 3 of the temporary cards today, but they seem to want to have it registered? This seems to require a mobile number.

Yep. Although you can collect points with a temporary card, you must register the temporary card before you can redeem any rewards. Any points you have collected on a temporary card also expire after three months.

Flybuys uses mobile numbers for 2FA when logging in (unless you tick Remember me on this device when entering the 2FA code), but I suspect the ulterior motive for enforcing 2FA was to cut down on the number of people with multiple Flybuys accounts.

You will need to have multiple mobile numbers in order to have multiple Flybuys accounts. For example, you could have one associated with your personal phone and another with your work phone (if you have one); or you could use mobile numbers being used by any children or other relatives. I used to use the service number for my data-only SIM card for 2FA purposes before I stopped using data-only SIM cards.

Can I redeem the 2000 points off the temporary card without registration?

No. Clause 4.1 of the Flybuys terms and conditions stipulates that only registered Flybuys accounts can redeem any rewards (including Flybuys Dollars). You also need a physical Flybuys card with a magstripe to redeem any Flybuys Dollars in-store at participating retailers, which you can only get once you register your temporary Flybuys card.

      • +1

You will need to have multiple mobile numbers in order to have multiple Flybuys accounts.

        Not in my experience.

  • Hello I noticed it says 2000 points on either the $50 or $100 gift card. Does this mean it’s 2000 bonus points for each? Or is the $50 gift card less bonus points or the same.

    • Does this mean it’s 2000 bonus points for each?

      This

  • Do you need to make 5 separate purchases to buy 5 gift cards and collect the 5x 2000 points or can you just buy 5 gift cards at the same time and still collect the 5x 2000 points?

    • +2

If you buy all 5 cards at the same time in the same transaction, it'll give you 5x2000 points.

It'll work the same whether it be in one transaction, or separate transactions.

      • Thanks!

      • If I'm buying 15 cards being 3 X 5 of each type is it ok to pay for them all at once ?

        • You need 3 flybuys accounts, in three different transactions. To get 30000pts

          • @ce5himm: My understanding of the t&c's is you can go 5 of each type being 5 max gift cards of each type not total .
I think someone has to take one for the team on the 6 th card being a different one to the first 5 and find the result 24 hrs latter .

            • @popsiee: No, that means you can get 5 x2000pts under 1 flybuys account, no matter what cards you are buying. Eg 5xstudent 50, or 1 of each card, or 2xstudent&3xteen.

  • Great was waiting for a gift card offer or coles prepaid mastercard to stack with increased flybuys earn on my coles credit card offer in October https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/653045

  • how long do the bonus flybuys points usually take to allocate?

    • +2

It should appear by about 7pm AEDT on the day after the transaction.

  • Do you need to register the flybuys first to get this? Or you can grab the temp card and purchase, then register?

    • +1

You should be fine if you grab a temporary card and scan that. There is no specific requirement in the deal’s T&Cs to use an already registered Flybuys card, so I don’t see any problems using a temporary card.

Just make sure to register the temporary card within three months, otherwise all the points will expire.

      • +1

        Thanks mate!

        • +1

You don't need those paper temporary cards. Sign up in the app without one and there will be a digital one for you to scan in there (click on 'my card'). Put in your postal address and a physical one will be sent out so you can redeem the FB dollars.

          • +1

@Tim349850: Thanks both, got the points showing on the card now. And thanks OP!

  • -2

Just tried this in Perth CBD store and bonus points don't work. They had a sign up for other cards and only the Ultimate Him. Wonder if it's a city store with restrictions?

    • +3

What do you mean by “bonus points don't work”?

Any Flybuys points you earn from an in-store transaction at Coles (including the bonus points from this deal) should appear by about 7pm AEDT on the day after the transaction.

This is different from Woolworths, which usually credits any Everyday Rewards points earned in an in-store transaction immediately after payment is finalised.

      • -1

Damn it I'm dumb, last time I grabbed gift cards was Woolworths where it shows up on the register. Guess I go back to Coles, although slightly worried these aren't on the advertisement

        • Coles’ checkouts will not show how many Flybuys points you will earn in a transaction, as that is worked out later.

although slightly worried these aren't on the advertisement

Not all Coles supermarkets will advertise gift card deals in the store, but that should not matter. I have purchased other gift cards during other bonus Flybuys points promotions from supermarkets that had zero advertising, and I still got the bonus Flybuys points.

The bigger question is whether Raine Square is actually included in the deal… Raine Square (which as far as I can tell is a Coles Central store) is not listed as an exclusion on page 46 of the WA Metro catalogue, but page 35 states that promotions may not be available at Raine Square.

It may be a good idea to call Coles Customer Care and ask them whether you will earn bonus Flybuys points if you purchase these gift cards from a Coles Central store.
