BenQ WiT e-Reading LED Desk Lamp - Interstellar Blue $293.25 + Shipping ($0 with Club) @ Catch

120

Had been looking for a decent flicker-free desk lamp.
Always wanted to grab a 3M polarising task lamp but they are not available in Straya.

Bumped into this when I looked for any good catch @ catch.com.au from their 15th birthday bash.
After reading reviews (some in Chinese which is more comprehensive as this is a product from a Taiwanese company), found that this one is worth the money, especially in home office settings. Good for those working from home long time every day.

Cheapest at $329 elsewhere.
After Cashrewards' 15% Cashback (Capped at $40), it becomes $293.25-$39.9= $253.26 which is a pretty good price.
I started 30-day catch club free trial so I only paid $2 for express shipping ($0 for standard shipping)

They placed some stock back. 9 left now.

  • What's the difference between this and fitting a desk lamp with adjustable LED?

So this is 6 year old model of a LED lamp (that video is from 2015).

Catch is known for flogging overstocked old stuff, way pass its technological prime.

Discount is just a few % compared to the usual price, though cashback indeed makes it a better deal.

What I am missing here? LED technology has improved in 6 years, is this lamp really that good that it's still worth buying for ~$250 (after cashback)?

    • Bought 3 of these at start of lockdowns. The lights just a lot more even over a bigger surface area.

If you have kids or care about uniform light, then it's pretty worth it. Stand is super sturdy - don't drop it on your foot.

    • I think 250 is a good price for this one. I bought it on full price last week.

    • it's the same lamp used by ex google ex facebook employee (as a millionaire). So it's good some street cred… as a millionaire.

  • 3M polarising task lamp

    • what?

Haven't heard of this before - low glare?

    • The idea interested me so I did a bit of Googling. It seems to be very proprietary to 3M and online references are mostly 8-10 years old, possibly predating their use of LED lamps. They were marketing at Asian parents who didn't want their dear little kiddies' eyes strained. I'm guessing that the lack of cheap knockoffs means that polarising work light at the emitter is not actually very helpful; if you're worried about glare you'd want to be wearing polarised glasses. But, I haven't tried this myself.

  • The stand looks like it takes up a lot of desk real estate.
