its not a gen4 drive, but it's still a respectable nvme to say the least.

Depends on what you're using the drive for.
Like, just running the computer? Play games, mostly work and download a few movies a day and transfer to hd. Computer on for about 3-10 hours a day.
Yup, this drive is one of the best Gen3 NVMe drives out there. Just be aware that there is a caching bug which slows down write performance on some drives down to 2000 MB/s. Not noticeable except in certain workflows and benchmarks, but Samsung is yet to issue a firmware update to fix this (they have on the 980 Pro).
@Sleepycat3: Do you mean to say that the performance difference wouldn't be noticeable, or that the Gen3 970 Evo is a faster drive than the Gen4 Firecuda 520?
The first I'd wholeheartedly agree with, the second one could well be true too, and I'd have some reading to do if it is.
hi all, anyone can comment if this Samsung 970 EVO Plus can be used for Macbook Pro 13 Retina 2014 and using which Convert Adapter card ? Based on research, most recommend using Samsung 970 EVO (non-PLUS version).
Current original Apple SSD has write / read speed, on average 300MB/s and 600MB/s respectively
if anyone has done upgrading their Mac themselves, your advise would be much appreciated. Thanks.
There's no point doing that since it'll still be limited to SATA speeds.
Have a read of this forum thread all about it
Upgrading 2013/2014 Macbook Pro SSD to M.2 NVMe
NGFF M.2 PCIe SSD Card as 2013 2014 2015 MacBook SSD
Ive got a Samsung 970 Evo Plus 500GB manufacture date may 2021 working in a macbook air 13" early 2014 just fine with the above sintech adapter. Just had to disable hibernation for the sleep/wake issue with the 2013/2014 mba/mbp models
Black Magic disk speed test
Write 1265MB/s
Read 1454MB/s
Would this be better than the Firecuda 520?bought 2 in the last deal but hasn't shipped yet
