Unless I'm missing something, you should get the 2.8k OLED 90Hz for only around $50 more. https://www.lenovo.com/au/en/education/laptops/yoga/yoga-sli…

    • That may not have touch.

      • +2

True, also oled is not great for battery life

        • Also comes to user preference. Personally for work I'd like to stick to iPs. OLED looks so great I can't take my eyes off.

Most laptops with oled flicker aswell.

        • how much would be difference in battery life ips vs oled ?

          • +1

@ChipsChicky: OLED would generally last 1 or 2 hours less compared to an equivalent laptop with an IPS panel, based on reviews of other laptops. Note if you utilize dark mode on an OLED screen it may improve the battery life. It would be difficult to say when comparing the OLED based Yoga vs the one in this deal, because the configurations are very different in terms of CPU, screen resolution/refresh rate and battery size.

      • And not a 2-in-1

    • also the pro has 61wh as well a non touch vs 71wh battery in the standard

pro also has option for lowend dedicated graphics to free up about 2GB ram from video ue if 16GB is a tight fit

anyone know when the yoga slim 7 pro 16 will be available?

    • +3

Here are the main differences beyond the OLED vs this deal

      5800H 45w vs 5800u 15w TDP processor.
      61wh battery vs 71wh battery

There is no U option on the Pro OLED

This laptop is geared towards having very good battery life.

Non touch OLED vs touch IPS with pen

Windows 10 Home vs Windows 10 Pro

1 year Depot Warranty vs 1 year Premium Warranty

8 weeks delivery vs mid October delivery

      • Does higher tdp means better performance or more heat and noise ?

        • +1

This depends on how good the cooling of the Chassis is. It could yield higher performance with good cooling, but if it is not adequate the higher watt TDP CPU would throttle because it gets hotter quicker and is not able to reach its peak performance. Higher watt TDP would also mean that it would consume more power when active or idle because it is less efficient. If the cooling is inadequate it may yield more heat and noise.

  • Anyone has any thoughts on this deal? I'm after a 2 in 1 around this price point (or at least below 2k) and want to get most bang for buck.

    • +2

I dont think this folds back to a flat tablet in case thats what youre referring to a 2 in 1.

Also bang for buck, this is a thig and light reasonably high build quality machine, which you pay more for. That may be considered bang for buck over the lifetime, but you may find these hardware specs a bit cheaper on a heavier plastic body laptop,

    • Was about $1100 for similar few months back

I get it there's a CPU shortage but an extra $400 is steep

L13 Gen2 is expected soon btw, it's a 13" more premium build (aimed at businesses) for around $1100 16GB/256GB/5750U Pro

  • Older generation Yoga suffered from terrible screen flickering issue caused by hardware defect where flipping the screen caused the display cable to loosen over time. Lenovo support were useless and advised everyone to update firmware etc, laptops sent back in took months without actually resolving issue. I have a yoga 730 with this issue and only by physically opening the laptop and following YouTube guides to modify the display cable placement was I able to resolve it for now. I'm not sure if Lenovo committed to fixing current Gen but I'm sure staying away from any Yoga product going forward.

You can read about it here: https://www.classaction.org/blog/unusable-lenovo-flex-5-yoga…

  • I'm so sad usb4 didn't make it into the 5000 series. Would have been perfect with TB3!

    • I guess it's only about 6 months wait now before you can get a Ryzen 6800u with RDNA2 and USB4. This is what I'm waiting for to upgrade my old desktop to something portable and powerful.

  • Grabbed one now the wait begins. It says late October but who knows. I had to cancel my order for a flex as they emailed me to say it hadn’t even been manufactured yet. This is Lenovo’s last chance

  • Anyone knows if the palm rest area on carbon editions has smooth/glossy feel like other laptops or matte (granular feel) like the lid of carbon edition ?

  • A relative asked me last night if this Dell laptop https://www.dell.com/en-au/shop/dell-laptops/xps-15-laptop/s… was ok.

Im not familiar with what's good and bad, she wanted to use Luminar software that has recommended specs like 4GB graphics, 16GB RAM, i7, etc, and while some of these specs are the same with this Lenovo, what makes the del so much more?

    • On the whole I’d say dell are not reliable from past experiences and from what I’ve read online.

    • +1

      This doesnt have dedicated graphics

    • +2

You are basically paying a premium for the XPS brand.

The AMD R7 5800U in the Lenovo is a lot faster then the best CPU provided in your link in the Dell, the i7 10875H. The R7 5800u is also a lot more power efficient at 15w TDP vs 45w TDP of the Intel.

      https://www.cpubenchmark.net/compare/AMD-Ryzen-7-5800U-vs-In…

In the link you provided, you would be paying for the chassis, 32GB RAM, 1tb SSD and UHD screen for the best spec. The CPU is previous generation , and the 1650t dGPU would be viewed as entry level if it was a gaming laptop.

      • Thank you for that!

  • man last years intel 14&15" model had the screens that would make this perfect.

  • Does this code work with the cashrewards cashback?

  • Has anyone had an update on delivery timeframes for this? The website still says "Order now to ship by late October" :-)

    • +1

See the response received from Customer support 2 days back.

      Greetings from Lenovo!

Based on our plant team, your order will arrive in Sydney by early November which is next week.

The delivery process will take 3-5 business days to your location.

Please expect to receive it latest by mid-November.

      • Thanks! Fingers crossed for a similar timeframe to Perth…

        • Should be more or less the same. Sydney should be their depot, I'm from Melbourne.
