Yeah, that was an odd one. I popped in the one near Chermside on Brisbane's north side on the Thursday - huge queues, and I wasn't particularly impressed with the prices.
Shame to see Fletcher Jones go - but when you're seen as old-fashioned and can't compete with Chinese manufacturing, writing's on the wall. They're not the first big profile rag trader to go recently: Colorado Group, Bettina Liano, Satch, Ed Hardy and Brown Sugar have all fallen over of late.
what, bettina liano is gone ??? i seem to remember a time when women/girls were all crazy over their jeans. never knew much about the brand except some women liked their jeans…they're actually gone ?
The WOW closing down sale is just a strategy to maximise sales. They advertised for a Thursday start with minimal discounts to maximise traffic for during the week and the weekenders who couldn't make it during the week. Next week, the real discounts will start as they'll slash prices to clear stock.
the liquidators aren't stupid! i'm sure after an ear bashing by creditors/share holders/board members etc to sell for maximum profit they'll pull out the retail sales playbook, including stuff like;
1)get families in by having a 'family day' i.e get the crowds in with clowns, face painting, pony rides, balloon animals etc oh, the prices inside will be the same!
2)stretch out the discounts, this week 5%, next week, 10%, then 15%, then 20% etc etc while still advertising "up to 30% discount"!
3)dishonor gift vouchers/coupons/store credit/credit vouchers etc(oh wait, they've already done this one!)etc etc

got a $199.95 pair of pants for $12. so yeah, some very good deals to be had
im told the camberwell store closed long ago. =(
bad sign for aussie retailers, hope all those that lost their jobs are able to find new ones quickly. Its a shame that this bargain is at the cost of local jobs
Very sad to see this very special Aussie Icon closing.
Been to a couple stores already, and I believe the sales have been going on awhile already, well, enough that all the common sizes are all already gone.
And this was last week!
The big Fletcher Jones has been "closing down" for well over two months already, reducing two floors worth of stuff into a small corner overlooked by the cashier.
Yeah more and more clothing companies closing down - real shame
it's not just the bad economic times, the death of a family member, the outdated product lines and the onslaught of cheap asian products just hastened the death nell…
Anyone working in retail and tourism need to get out now…they're sinking ships and the number of staff in these sectors will significantly reduce in the next decade or so.
we have a stupid government to thank
lets hope these are better than the pathetic attempt by WOW stores.
