They also have an electric induction cooktop in the same sale: https://www.aldi.com.au/en/special-buys/special-buys-wed-15-…

Does anyone have any feedback on what the Stirling brand induction cooktops are like? Reviews online don't look very good, although perhaps for a different model.

    • We are using the gas cooktop, so far so good. It's doing a good job.

I have been using electric induction cooktop for over 5 years and surprising it's still working perfectly.

    • -1

      This one isn't induction.

      • +3

we are talking about induction mate. it's in the link klaw81 mentioned https://www.aldi.com.au/en/special-buys/special-buys-wed-15-…

        • -6

we are talking about induction mate.

Nope, read the post title and description again…

        • +5

I think this is a first for me but I agree with jv, you should have replied to klaw81 instead of writing a new comment…

  • Not going to lie.. I love the idea of having a wok burner on my gas stovetop.

    • +2

At only 3.6 kW this isn't a very powerful burner for wok cooking. But it is similar to most other consumer-level gas cooktops available in Australia.

Ideally you would want at least 6 kW of power for wok cooking. Professional burners (for huge woks) can be as powerful as 30 kW.

      • Thanks! Did not know this. Just liked the size of the thing 😂

      • how do you convert kw to MJ/h you usually see here?

  • -1

Pretty sure this is the normal price for this model.

    • Can you show it advertised at this price elsewhere?

      • Can you show it advertised at this price elsewhere?

Here it is… the same price as it always sells for.

        http://offers.kd2.org/en/au/aldi/pikqZ/

Can you show that is reduced from the normal price for it to be a bargain?

        This is OzBargain, not OzNormalPrice

        • Can you show it on sale elsewhere at the same price, or lower?

The fact that Aldi sell this at this price as part of their "specials" does not negate the price being a bargain for what you are getting.

If it was on sale elsewhere and currently at the same or lower then I'd agree with you. Otherwise, nah.

  • Induction looks good.
Be aware it's hard wired, you may require a new circuit to be pulled in if you are replacing gas

    • not sure this one, but mine which bought 5 years ago was plug and cook tho….NOT A HARD WIRED

      • Was yours just a single portable one though?

        • no my one looks exactly as the photo mate….they may change it this time, idk.

    • +1

Any sparkys know if wiring a plug to an induction cooktop is ok as opposed to hard wiring?

      • I believe the problem is you'd need more than 10amps for this, so you'd need a separate circuit back to your fuse box.

        • Yeah I've already got the separate circuit, just wondering if the way it's connected is a problem because I've got plenty of spare power points.

          • +1

@WatchNerd: As long as the components are rated correctly, it should be ok, but you need to get an electrician to do it.
It may be cheaper to move to the UK though, as there you can do it yourself…

            • @jv: What about DIY gas? Just unscrew the pipe and connect right? Hold your breath though whilst doing it and do it quickly

    • Had a quote for re-wiring as the power draw of the induction cooktops we wanted installed needed higher gauge wiring for our 30+ year old house.
Added about $800 on top since it was quite a distance.

    • Found the instruction manual online for the Harbour induction.
      What does this mean?

      IMPORTANT:
If the total number of heating unit of the appliance you choose is not less than 4, the appliance can be
connected directly to the mains by single-phase electric connection, as shown below.

…and then it shows a pic if a 25A plug.

Does that mean for this 4 zones single is ok?

      • +1

It's confusing but since you need an electrician to install then might as well go for 3 phase

  • Does anyone know if warranty is on-site?

    • -4

No, you need to ship your kitchen to their factory.

      • disassembled or in one pack?

  • +1

This whole Sterling range is surprising good for the price. I did a cheap and cheerful kitchen to tie us over for a few years and lashed out on the hole Sterling kitchen package - dishwasher, oven, 75cm gas hob and rangehood. Easy install and works like a charm. Only comment is I think the oven temps reads about 20C low (easy to do the mental arithmetic) and the wok burner sometimes shuts off with the safety valve when you run it on minimum gas. D/W and range hood haven't missed a beat.

Seems reasonable value for a 90cm cooktop.

I remember when Choice did their reviews recently for 60cm stoves, this Ikea one actually won the tests: https://www.ikea.com/au/en/p/matmaessig-gas-hob-stainless-st…

Ikea also have some great value induction stoves too - get rated very well.

  • A sterling deal…

I have this one brought earlier this year for same price , it comes with replacement jets for bottle gas as it is set for natural gas or town gas make sure you adjust the flame control
so you can get it a lower flame. I had Gas fitter install it.
it comes with a plug and lead you will need a power point under cupboard, never had problem with any Aldi appliance.

  • I got a gas connection at Alfresco, does this one fit for Alfresco?

  • +1

Just came back from Aldi, the induction cooktop isn't Stirling branded, it's "Harbour".

Unsure if there's any difference in quality or just a rebrand.

Anyone care to give it a shot and feedback to us?

    • Ya was going to say. Grabbed one for an up and coming reno but don't know when we will actually have it installed.

      • The more you can use it in the first 3 years while it's under warranty the better.

  • I went to check out the 90cm gas cooktop and it was Harbour not Stirling. Epic ad fail. Also no gas connection diagram on box to determine whether the position of an existing gas connection would work. Tried contacting Harbour but got an email refering to http://support.residentiagroup.com.au which has no mention of this product.

  • I'm after a replacement gas hob. What makes some $200 and some $2500? Just brand name?
