  • Apparently, there are no Windows drivers for these tablets (I am an android developer and I need to connect tablet to my PC). There is also no way to root it.
    I'm returning it tomorrow…

    • which model?

      • Any model. I bought 7"

  • I know people who has the 10" said that it comes with the Android Market, but how about 7"? anyone can confirm if the 7" also has the android market?

    Cheers

    • Yes, 7" also comes with Android Market.
But I don't recommend buying it! I'm returning mine tomorrow.
LCD screen is absolutely terrible, it's too contrast and colors are all wrong. After half an hour of using it my eyes literally hurt.
Besides, seems like there is no support from MSI for these tablets yet.

  • has anyone tried to refund this?
    How did it turn out?

    • I returned it today, no questions asked. Just bring it to your nearest BigW store.

  • any other feedback from 10" user? I keen to buy one

    • +1

Yes screen is terrible, CPU is slower than in a Galaxy Tab. Build quality is very good and a cut above the no name brand tablets out there.
Due to the screen, I wouldn't want to be using it for hours everyday but for my 20 min train ride to work, its perfect.
For $175, its worth it unless you want to pay 3 times as much for the Samsung.

    • +1

If you want to use it day to day, it'll be good to have. It's nice to hold, light and it'll run most of your apps. It's worth the $175. Personally, I'm waiting for the galaxy tab to go down in price.

  • 10" sold out…

  • can anyone confirm the enjoy 7 having market access?

    • Both 7 and 10" have market installed

  • Anyone in Perth received theirs yet?

    • No,

      • Ok thanks, looks like Auspost are taking there sweet time.

Received the 7' MSI windpad yesterday. It came with Google Market installed.
I already own an ipad1, I think this is a very capable tablet.
    - Photo viewing is very responsive, pinch-style zooming in and out is fine
    - Came loaded with some games, which are responsive
    - Camera not working in Skype Video calling, just black screen.
    - Camera is working on Yahoo Messenger Video chat
    - Web browsing using Opera Mini is fast
    - Touch screen responsiveness is reasonable and acceptable
    - Loaded some pdf files, texts are almost unreadable when tested on a few ebook readers, the font looks crap but when tested the pdf files with QuickOffice the text look fine, very ok…The rendering of a .pdf file is fast, no hiccups there.
    - Speaker is crap but audio is very nice using a Sennheiser headphone
    - Video quality is acceptable and looks great at this price point, a very capable tab for watching YouTube.
    - At this price, I am not expecting this tablet to match the quality of samsung tablet or ipad.
    - Easy replacement/refund policy with Bigw, that's a big plus.
    - To summarise, for me, this tablet doesn't sucks.

    • Overview and Specs show that this unit has Skype.
Did you find out why Skype isn't working?

      • Skype for Android is crap in general. It doesn't play nice with some devices.

      • Agree with scrimshaw, Skype is generally crap on Android, I haven't had time to research why skype video call isn't working properly. Anyone got skype video call working their MSI 7' ?

Got ours yesterday, and to the few folks who have commented adversely - are you serious?

Bear in mind this was a $498 device on this very site on FEBRUARY 11 ($200 off… hahaha - dummies) and less than a month later it's $178.

    Ours is a tenner (10"); 4Gb internal storage, 512Mb RAM and what-not.

I confess a strong bias against the iCult - so I'm never ever going to buy an overpriced 'stylish' walled-garden phone-home track-your-bidness iPad. But my beloved Mother has an iPad, and I've seen them in action… and the Windpad Enjoy is not sufficiently different to warrant the price differential.

On ours, the Android Market worked first go - no drama whatsoever - and I was able to download and install my fave purchased apps without a hitch. Not sure what other folks were taking about on that score.

Screen is not bad at all - pinch-to-zoom and so forth works responsively and without lag. Watched a couple of HD vids on it and they were crisp and clear. That said, I am the opposite of the iCult, so be warned: I'm not one of those types we all know - "my eyes/ears/palate are/is SO sensitive, I can only use cold-pressed organic fairTrade extra-super-duper-virgin olive oil from trees on the north face of one small plot on Kalamata made by peasants in traditional garb while listening to Ben Folds Five on my ipod through $200 'noise cancelling' headphones"; if you are YMMV [and you should kill yourself].

Bluetooth seems to be better than most - my headset (an SX910A stereo wraparound job that cost $20 a year ago) seemed clearer (both TX and RX) when using Skype, than it does when using the same headset on a phone or on my notebook. Maybe some of the sweat-salt encrustation got shaken off or summink (it's my gym headset).

Wifi is stable, as you really should expect in these days when wifi 11n electronics will fit on half your fingernail.

Camera is rubbish (front and back), but I take rubbish photos anyhow (so does almost everyone else in the entire world, especially those who take photos with their portable devices).

I put the thing through its paces while on the dunny this morning (face it ladies - manly men do manly things, and reading OzBargain on a tab on the dunny while you're taking a shower is one of those manly things). If some hipster iCulter or $600-tab-buyer thinks they enjoy their morning bog-read 3 times as much as I did, then there must be a lot of bodily fluids being flushed down iCult iDunnies.

My primary criticism of this: AWFUL name, AWFUL 'tagline', AWFUL AWFUL AWFUL. Worse than Roxette lyrics. Worse than the actual translation of douchebag "Chinese character" tattoos.

God stab my vitals, are there NO native English speakers in the entire Guangdong province to ensure that idiocy like this is not repeated ad infinitum? I know folks who are over there TEACHING English - MSI need only run their STUPID STUPID STUPID name concepts past someone at a langausge school, or risk winding up on EngrishFunny.com

TL;DR: great device. Stupid name. How would they feel if I started making up stupid Chinese names? That's the last thing anybody wants right now, believe me.

EDIT: Did I mention that the name is stupid? Maybe I forgot to mention that. Just in case: STUPID name.

    • Damn….now I want one…..I wonder what happens to the returns…..do they try to resell on the local store or get sent back to the warehouse and get re-advertised……

    I purchased a 10in unit.
For background, it is my first android device. There is an iPad 2 in the house and I have an iphone.
Build quality is good. Screen is pretty good.
I'm finding the android interface a bit unituitive, but getting better. I have been able to crash quite a few apps (native browser, Firefox, Gmail, background picker) just in normal use. This was a bit disconcerting, and if it happens much more I will be returning.
The touchscreen is not quite as snappy as an ipad or iphone, lagging a fraction of a second behind a swipe or scroll. The kids played a few games with success.
I watched a youtube video of a TV show, and the screen was much better than the video quality demanded. The PDF I opened was readable, but slightly fuzzy, like when a document is scanned to PDF - although this wasn't the case.
I intend to upgrade the firmware, as there is a newer version listed at:
    http://event.msi.com/nb/enjoy/enjoy10_download.html#tagtop
The full manual is also there.
I also couldn't find the SD card slot and had to check the documentation - it is located behind a cover on the back top corner.
In summary, it is OK-ish for browsing, good for video play back and good for games.
I'll probably put a 32gb card in it and use it to watch torrents on the train or keep the kids amused in the back of the car.
I'll up date the firmware with the hope it is a little more stable.

    • +1

I updated the firmware - be aware it takes several restarts to complete - and the stability is much improved. Opera browser is the goods too. After these two changes I rate it at 80% of an ipad2. Super value for the price.

  • I got my one. So far it appears ok.
One problem, I could not connect it to my computer (vista) as a USB storage. no driver found.
    Can anybody help me?
    Thanks

    • Eventually managed to get an XP PC connect just fine on there second try. The internal tab memory and the card I had inserted came up as two separate shares for some reason? Anyone else come across that? Haven't tried it with Windows 7 yet though…

  • Got my Enjoy10 today. Updated the firmware.
Rebooted and now it is looping an animated banner "MSI innovation with style"

    Followed all the instructions too.

    http://event.msi.com/nb/enjoy/enjoy10_download.html

  • Ok. I went out for a couple of hours and it was still looping.
Tried once more to reset and bingo. It's working.
Much faster after the firmware update I might add…

I think it is definitely worth the $$$. If it breaks, just give it back to BigW.
Beats sending it back to some dodgy bugger on ebay…

  • I got the Enjoy 10". Updated the firmware and also got the never-ending loop "MSI innovation with style".

However, I tried to reset it like shane_au suggested and it doesn't work; still the never-ending loop. Might have stuffed up my tablet with the firmware update.

    • spewwwinggggg

    • Update: I adopted a policy of hitting the reset button every 20 minutes and after about 2 hours, one of the resets worked! Now the tablet is back to normal or working again.

      • Does the new firmware make that much of a difference? Using it to type with now (10") and aside from fruit ninja not working for more than a few seconds and some weird youtube issues its a million times better than my previous android 1.6 tab :-)

On a related note, anyone know if it can take sdhc or its it just plain sd?

        • I didn't notice any real difference with this new firmware; lots of trouble for not much gain.

This tablet can take a sdhc up to 32gb. You'll need a micro sd card.

  • got mine yesterday, and been playing around with it for a bit, quick review:

    pros
    - seems great value for money, all video plays fine, i can play 1080p video with no lag
    - menu does lag a bit, but with a launcher, its not noticeable
    - build quality is superb i feel like im holding a genuine device, not a kids toy
    - if you dont have a tablet, or want one for the kids/for cheap, this is the best bet

    cons
-you need a memory card, internal memory is low
    - android 2.3 - shocking - such be 3.0 at least, im guessing most apps will work though
    - resolution is not that great, but if you have used other tablets, or own say a HTC desire HD or a Samsung Galaxy, you will notice that videos look clearer on that then the tablet, which makes me want to watch films on my phone instead of the tablet, as i feel im getting a "better experience"

final verdict: i only need a tablet that can hook up to an external hdd, when i get an OTG cable and test it out to see if it works, and if it does, im keeping this, otherwise its back to bigw you go. but as a first tablet/budget tablet, its great!

  • hey! i got mine a couple days ago but it came damaged! =( the back metal part has 2 dings in it, i think its from the power adaptor prongs pushed though the cardboard =( arrggg!! have called bigW to see if they have a replacement.

as for the tab though, better than i expected great for its price, got a 16gb micro for 12$ sweet as! =)

    • where you get it at 12 dollars?

      • got it priced matched with 5% off at office works against one of the shops on staticice.

Someone has worked out how to root the 10" and provided a firmware with most of the bloatware removed:
    http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1453613&pag…

  • Got mine last Thursday (WindPad Enjoy 10) and updated to the rooted 2.3.1 with bloatware removed last night. It's actually a disappointment comparing to my Tegra 2 based tablet —

    • Android 2.3 on a 10" — argh!!!
    • Scrolling is a bit laggy, and the performance is not much better than the 7" ZTE V9. Sometimes it just freezes (when you try to update multiple apps and browsing with Dolphin HD at the same time).
    • Haptic feedback on the capacitive buttons — anyway to turn that off?!
    • Frequent crashes of applications. I still can't get Google Play Book to start at all.

However for $172 delivered I guess I just need to be more tolerant towards it. The build quality is actually quite good. It's thin and light. 4x3 screen is a bit odd with Android but I found it good for browsing in portrait mode (comparing to 16x10 of other Android tablets).

    • isnt tegra 2 dual core, so shouldn't it be faster?
also have the same problem with the haptic feedback, i think that there is no way to get rid of it on the buttons

      • Yes, "old" Tegra 2 based dual core tablets are a lot better (at ~2x the price though). I guess I was just spoiled by faster tablets out there. Should have used my ZTE V9 more…

  • it seems like MSI using rk29 chip….. which is better than ipad A4 chip but can't compare to ipad2

  • there is new firmware again, no update log…….. not sure what had been changed
    :(

  • Upgraded to latest firmware more memory and storage. Faster also
Look at xda to upgrade. Try MSi Web method fail all the time. …

  • These 2 posts tell you how to update to the latest 2012 firmware (version 0224) downloaded from the MSI website.

    Post 71
    Post 91

    Changelog:
The biggest changes are an increased RAM capacity, faster cold boot and shut down, and increased performance in interface and gaming.

Important note: If you try to flash the 0224 firmware using MSI's instructions, it will fail to upgrade. You must use the burning tool as described in Post #71!

Nobody has successfuly rooted the new ROM yet and there is still a lot of bloatware.

If you want root and no bloatware, you must install the stock rooted ROM from here.

  • It looks like some have now rooted the new firm ware. I'm going to wait a few days till the dust settles then upgrade.

    • but the original rom really lack of space and ram……

      • Like MSkeggs said, some people have rooted the original (0224) ROM.

Once a ROM is rooted, it's very easy to remove bloatware. Titanium Backup is a good tool for this.

        • i use root uninstaller

  • Does anybody know where I can get cover for MSI enjoy 7? I searched not yet get any suitable one

  • Does anyone has the packaging box for the MSI 7" tablet that you are willing to give away, anyone in WA? I want to refund this tablet, but they have requested me to take it into one of their store with the packaging box, which I have thrown out in the bin when I first unboxed it. Basically, no refund/return if I dont have the packaging box.

(p.s. I m trying to avoid returning this to their online return centre).

    Thank you!

  • Anyone else having weird issues with it not making any sound all of a sudden and then intermittently coming back/going away? I've spent the last week trying everything that I can think of including reseting to factory default, up/down-grading the rom. Eventually returned the thing after getting fed up and have just bought the 7" pioneer dreambook for $35 to tide me over until I can decide on what tab to get…
