Australian business Cabcharge will offer $50 vouchers for residents in NSW to travel to and from their Covid-19 vaccination appointment, joining other businesses offering initiatives to help get the country vaccinated.
Cabcharge boss Cyrus Asher said he wanted to offer a safe way for people to travel to their appointment, and avoid the highly-transmissible Delta variant of the virus.
“Many people are wary of public transport because of the speedy transmission of the Delta virus,” Mr Asher told Sky News.
“And helping people to a vaccination hub is a thoughtful gesture when people have lost their jobs or are experiencing financial stress.”
The vouchers will be made available to anyone in the state, Mr Asher said, in the hopes to help NSW reach the 70 per cent fully vaccinated rate needed to open up.
The giveaway – launched on Thursday – will see up to $200,000 worth of free taxi rides provided to people going to either their first or second dose bookings.
“It could be a frontline worker, a hairdresser desperate to get back to work, residents with special travel needs — we want to ensure no one is left behind for a safe and reliable ride to the vaccination appointment,” Mr Asher said.
“We want to aid the vaccination initiative across the state and hope other businesses can support this initiative as well.”

Wow!
I'm sure this will really help quite a lot of people.
Although I personally feel the the fact the Giveaway is only open to NSW residents over the age of 18 years is excluding one of the groups who'd probably need transport the most: the under 18s.
There's probably a couple of legal things though that require that.
