Expensive for a toaster yes but these are fantastic

    • What's the benefit of shelling extra $$ on this?

      • 2yr warranty? Most are 12months, Aldi had 3yrs on their toasters so I bought theirs

        • +1

I get that, but a $20 toaster bought once a year is still 60% cheaper. I was asking more around any additional features that make it worth the tag. But i understand if it's just about brand or colors

@freewhere: Not good for the environment dumping a toaster every year. The KitchenAid has a two year warranty. The odds are you will get a lot more wear out of it than the $20 toaster. However, if you don’t make much toast then stay with the no brands.

            • @try2bhelpful: I was just making a point by example. All good.

              • @freewhere: No probs. I just don’t like our throw away culture. The cost of disposing of things should be built into their price. For things I use, often, I tend to buy better brands. I bought a Magimix food processor after going through a few Brevilles. We don’t cook much toast so I have a Russell Hobbs one with a glass panel at the front. This seems to work well and has lasted. I bought a cheap, small, air fryer because we rarely use it.

  • Can I fit thick slices like banana bread etc ?

    • +1

or long/unusual slices like a slice of ciabatta?

      • +2

yep, need long slots for artisan bread, since lock down and re-creating the cafe experience at home, I toast sourdough and the slices are longer than supermarket store bought bread e.g Wonder White, Helgas, etc.
Sure I could cut the artisan bread slices in 1/2, but with a long slot toaster I can toast 2 long slices for my avo and poached egg, or Reubens sandwich for lunch and have the cafe experience at home.

  • $99 is okish considering it has this automatic lift/lower method, but how on earth it was ever $249 is beyond me.

    • +1

My wife broke her wrist pushing down the bread manually, I wouldn't mess around, even if this cost $10,000 I’d recommend it.

      • What toaster was she using when broke her wrist?!
1 finger is enough pressure to push down lever on my toaster

  • I have used many KitchenAid products in the past and currently still using a few now.

Yes, they are top-notch products, but it's still not justified to pay $100, let alone RRP $249, for a toaster.

    P.S. I would give it a go for $50.

      Sexist much? It's 2021.

  • Can someone explain why it says automatic, aren't all toasters automatic?

    • +2

There is a motor inside that lowers the bread instead of the spring mechanism.

      • +1

        Gee more parts to fail

        • +4

I've had mine for almost 2 years, running sweet. There is handy feature that keeps the bread warm. super handy if you are a princess like me and hate cold toast.

        • All of my toasters failing has been the mechanical mechanism that you push on which is not surprising as thats the only part that moves.

Since upgrading to the Breville smart toaster which this kitchen aid toaster seems to be a copy off it has lasted me over 7 years. Having a motor to bring the toast down and up is a far superior and more reliable design.

      • If I get it right once that motor malfunctions while everything else is working you won't be able use it as a toaster?

    • +1

Yeah for $249 I'd be hoping for some sort of Wallace and Gromit setup

  • +1

    I like my $7 throwaway, bought from Colesworths//Kmart/ W

Seems to me that most toasters have the same basic mechanism and the same basic lifespan

    • +1

Yes but can you press a button and be done with toasting your bread?

      • +1

No you are quite right I have to press a thingo down.

    • Yeah but that mechanical push down mechanism is what fails you over time and that $7 toaster will do far more than $7 of damage to the environment when you throw it out after 6 months.

Whilst the motor on this will stop you from damaging the mechanism that moves the bread up and down and your have many more years of usage out of this.

It will easily last over 10 years if well looked after.

      • That "mechanical push down mechanism" is literally metal plate that is held down by solenoid which is energised while coils are heating, there's nothing to break there.

Also in $7 toaster you can hold lever down and still toast the bread, what about one with motor in it?

  • I dont understand why KitchenAid is so expensive. They are made by Whirlpool and Whirlpool cannot even sell when on heavy discount.

I purchased this when it was on eBay sale 6-7 months ago. It is malfunctioning now. Really disappointed, does not recommended on this price. I would have purchased a Breville.

    • What is it doing wrong?

      • +1

Automatic function does not work properly, need to switch off from the plug point an switch on again, so annoying.

    • +1

The Kitchenaid site says 2 year warranty.

  • Shows the cream coloured toaster BUT the deal is for blue, the other colours are still $179.

    • Pale Green, sorry Pistachio is $199.
      I can't help myself.

PS everyone complaining about the price of this, it's an amazing toaster. So extra! haha also, i got it last year for $29 on the kitchenaid website when they had a sale. $29 is a GREAT buy for a super extra toast. $99 not so much as it is only 2 slice.

  • How about more discount on KSM160 op? Thanks

  • Hi OP, any further discounts for KPF1333?

  • Have one. Is great.

  • I have a kitchen aid toaster in our house., ours doesnt toast both sides evenly, but it looks good.
I have an el cheapo K,Mart toaster in our van it toasts evenly on both sides. I love the toast but the toaster itself looks junky.
If only you could put the good mechanics of the cheap toaster inside the good body of of the kichenaid then you would have a winner.
The best toaster we ever had was a Sunbeam Cafe toaster, perfectly cooked toast and the toaster looked good.
They dont seem to be around anymore,.

  • Kmart toaster $7 or KitchenAid $99
