  Hmm my Kindle is registered to .com and not .com.au. Is there a way to change or add this?

    Yes, there should be an option when you log into your account on the kindle website.
    Note that this may disable some features on your kindle (e.g. audible).

    I had a Kindle from the US and had written to the customer care saying I'm moving over from the US to AU and they had done that for me. This was long back when the price of Kindle was reduced with advertisements on the screen.
