  • I've had some plants on the way from country Victoria for over a week. Yyeeeaahhh, that's not going to end well. The weird thing is a separate item sent at the same time from the same mob arrived earlier this week. Still a bit slower but reasonable.

Was hoping to get to the new Xiaomi vac for a play this week … oh well (still a chance for tomorrow :P)

  • I had free shipping parcel from China in a week than interstate. Talk about incompetencies.

Yeah, sounds so fair with just one best case example. I am waiting for a parcel from China for close to 2 months now (it took 2 weeks of bouncing around within China before departing). AliExpress did a dodgy brother on me and chased up a parcel for me on the very last day on item not delivered case to be ruled (seller picked AliExpress standard postage so AliE didn't want to refund it obviously). Took close to 3 months.

I sent AusPost express post with return express post envelope last week in VIC. The recipient received it within 1 business day and I received the item(s) also within 1 business day. Total turnaround 4 elapsed days.

I know there is a huge parcel backlog at the moment and people are very frustrated. However, quoting best case example is just not helping.

I am keen to know the last mile delivery partner. Since you are so upset about AusPost, it couldn't be it so which courier was it?

      • To be honest, most of my parcel to SYD gets delivered within 2 weeks or early 3 weeks. Could depend on the state and city.

        • You paid for regular post right (or the seller opted for that)?

For me, with Covid (especially), I don't bother sending non-express. I pretty much send express to jump the queue. There is a reason feeBay Plus goes all express.

International, less important stuff, international express (though the delivery time is more like standard international air pre-Covid). Important and urgent materials, DHL or Fedex.

AliE items, if possible, I try to use China Post based services… but this one… I really wanted it cheap so I reckon it will take close to 3 months to get to me. There is no such thing as free postage, even if the item says free postage.

I can understand why PCCG set their postage costs in a way to basically force you down the express option (Startrack). At the moment, regular post service (due to the huge volume and the lockdowns) is just really slow and many sellers are using express.

NSW and VIC both in lockdowns, that's the worst situation. Two biggest hubs crippled while parcel demand goes up in both states big time.

I had free shipping from China in a week too. I also had 3 months.

Free shipping is subsidised by the CCP to encourage export, undercutting local sales in Australia, and your package could have just made it into the shipping container that was sent out to Australia the next day. Sometimes it might be the first to be packed and takes weeks for the entire container to be filled before being sent out.

      • +1

I don't believe there is such thing as free shipping. Would like to know exactly which service was used and the cost of the item.

Free shipping is subsidised by the CCP to encourage export

That's really hard to believe. Selling to Aussies is 'very' important to CCP? That's stretching it too much. Also, I have yet to find an item in AliE with 'true' free shipping (the item price basically has base shipping cost embedded into the price).

Agree with you that there are many factors and does depend on when the flight goes out. I do use a more cost effective international courier service and there is a schedule (basically, if I missed the Tuesday 2PM deadline, the parcel will be processed the following week).

I did have a parcel from China (with cheap, so called 'free' postage) which got bounced around between 2 delivery centres within China repeatedly (3 times) before leaving China. That one took 3 months to get here.

        • +1

SEZ or Special Economic Zones in China have heavily subsidised postage freight costs to the point its near on free.

      • +1

I believe there's an international agreement to ship small packages for the cost of a letter. I don't think there's any direct subsidy going on.

        • I don't think so. I know sellers do that and both China Post and Aus Post close a blind eye on those. However, some LPOs here are stopping under declared / under paid postage.

If postage from China is so great, why 3 months for those el cheapo postage? Frankly, I am willing to pay more to get the items earlier. So this postage from China is so much cheaper and better all the time is a BS. Cheap items, cheap postage, most of the time poorly packaged. Also, a lot of them use 3rd party reseller type delivery service. That's why you see multiple stickers on those a lot.

The retailers could help the situation. I placed an order with KMart last week.

Firstly their website failed to take my order for several items totalling around $150 until I split the order into two separate orders. I kept getting payment errors so eventually I split it into two orders that both still qualified for free shipping.

Then they split the order even further and in the end I received 5 different deliveries via Aus Post.

    • How else are they suppose to send them to you when they are at 5 different Kmarts ?

      • all but one of the items was at Kmart Chadstone because I had originally intended to do a click and collect. none of the deliveries came from Kmart Chadstone.

        • Amazon does a similar thing. For example, you can make one order, get six deliveries.

  • Still waiting on express post parcel Melbourne to Perth, posted 23rd August according to Australia Post tracking . Express Post 12 days n counting, n no response from Australia Post to my inquiries

    • Last year before covid lock downs I sent international express to UK. It stayed in Melbourne for a month (when it is meant to be delivered within 14 days). Once it left Melbourne got delivered in 5 business days. The UK was in lock down.

      Australia Post is a joke.

  • They're really struggling with parcel deliveries at the moment. My package is domestic NSW -> NSW parcel post.

Wed 25 Aug 2:27pm - Received and ready for processing
Mon 30 Aug 9:45 am - Item processed at facility Sydney NSW
    No further updates.

ETA Wed 1 - Fri 3 Sep but I'm not holding my breath because it's not out for delivery today.

  • So this is the notes from a cabinet meeting led by Scotty from Marketing…

Cant fully privatise Australia Post because the people love it and want it to stay 'their' postal service
If we move in it, we lose old far votes and workers that hate the word 'privatization'
YEs, I know it always costs people more in the long run when we privatise something but that not as issue for today
Look, I think we need to make people hate AustPost, then they will beg us to sell it.
    Ok here's my plan.
Let's white ant the boss. She's a woman so we can use that against her.
Then we'll cust staff and say she did it
When the place gets so busy it's about to pop we'll screw with delivery times
    then we can sell it
Yeah I know we can't order them to do anything, but wehn we get rid of her we can put our mate in charge and promise him a huge bonus for privatization
Now, who wants to come with me to Maccas?

    • Privatise it and it gets worse like Royal Mail in the UK.

Government needs to give them a little bit more money to get up to speed. They will recoup it given they got a majority of the market.

  • Had a few parcels stuck with Auspost since the 30th - received and ready for processing. Nothing since

    • I have multiple parcels some from outerstate and some interstate- all appear to be stuck in South West Sydney.

Funny thing is I am in North West Sydney so I have no idea why they have gone there in the first place.

Guess people haven't heard the news that vic and nsw are in lockdown, meaning literally everything is getting posted…meaning there's probably 10x the amount of normal volumes if not more.

Imagine any business dealing with 10x the amount of business…

It's not like the postman can drive at 600km/h instead of 60km/h to make up for the higher volume of orders….

    Some tolerance and understanding people?

Even my items from amazon are taking 2 weeks instead of 1 day now.

Unless it's fresh water, food or essential medicines - I'm sure it can wait?

Neg me if you want. Just trying to be the voice of reason.

AU post has been a rubbish company from the start. Almost, almost all of their post office staff are completely useless, as are the posties themselves. This is why they are not getting any sympathy now. Just like taxi drivers when uber came and destroyed their industry.

    • Amazon items are taking 1 day for delivery once it's been posted out for me. It's just taking longer for stuff to be sent out but the delivery part has been 1 day with prime delivery. I ordered some stuff on Wednesday and it was sent as 2 packages yesterday one from the Sydney warehouse and the other the Victorian. The Sydney package was delivered this morning and the other one is currently out for delivery.

    • Postal workers can go where they want. Essential workers.

  • How about in the era of Gladys Incompetence we move to simply only ordering stuff we actually genuinely need. Or going without. Half of the backlog is probably people buying pointless cheap crap from Kmart for something to do, or orders of toilet paper or paper towels from Amazon. While COVID is ripping it would actually help the delivery guys and warehouse peeps if we were to amend our habits, at least temporarily. Thank you for coming to my Ted Talk.

  • There was a rumor circulating that this coincides with the truck driver strike/disobedience action. Will checkout the supermarket shelves, as they too would be affected, if there is any truth to the rumor.

  • Should have always been the cas

Why pay to ha e to perform the last mile logistics yourself and pick up in the car.

    It's lazy privatisation.

  • One way or another, aus post is going to fail to deliver that something you have been waiting for in time for the weekend 10/10 times.

  • My delayed parcel surprisingly turned up today (Saturday)

I’m going to be that guy - unless the delivery is urgent, people can wait.

    • -1

If you pay for a service, then you would have an expectation that service would be delivered upon.

      • With the exception of the express post deliveries, the service is being delivered, its just taking longer than usual.

    • You would think it’s that easy, just look at the comment above me. Customer expectations are way too high. Your still getting goods and paid the cheaper option.. 1 extra day won’t be that bad surely?

  • +3

Australia post is a dinosaur hindered by bloated corporate structure, baked in legacy staffing costs and a complete lack of care when it comes to what their customers actually want.

    • Pretty much. That is why post office have turned into milk bars / news agents. The bigger stores are like old Dick Smith stores (selling cheap mobile's phones and TVs).

  • +2

So what makes them think this is going to fix the problem?

Instead of parcels piling up in AusPost warehouse, they are going to pile up in the distributors warehouse and then they're going to get a weeks worth of collections when the times comes and be back in the same boat.

Even if they hire 4000 new staff, they're going to all be up and running in a week?

Start ordering your Christmas parcels now if you want them in time people…

lol still waiting on my package and its taken 2 weeks from Syd to Melb, and another 2 week ETA. They are good at making excuses though.
