    • Oh good, that hadn't been mentioned up until thank. Excellent contribution.

    • +4

No subwoofer, no succulents, no spaghetti, no thanks Samsung

  • Hmmm are Samsung phones still bloated with useless apps?

    • Like any other Android phone there's going to be doubling of Google and Samsung apps, depends which apps one favours I usually keep both Google and Samsung apps, well my high end 5G Note 10 plus 512gb version can easily handle a lot of apps, actually I have over 700 apps installed, otherwise uninstall or disable what apps you don't want

Edit: from memory Samsung and Google, there were 2 calendar apps, maybe 2 email apps, I think only Samsungs pay app installed which I prefer but also have Google pay for there deals, overall hardly much doubling of apps not like the old days of Touchwiz UI, And my opinion Samsung UI is awesome with so many features ahead of Googles offerings

      Anyone agree lolz 👍😁🤣

    • If you ignore the Samsung, Microsoft or Google-based apps - no.

  • Dual or Quad SIM model

    • Esim + Physical sim

      • That's for the S21 posted here? How about the Note 20 Ultra I guess should be the same

        • It’s the same as well for Note 20 Ultra

  • This or S20 FE? I like bigger screen on FE, but S21 newer phone. Time to upgrade from S7 me thinks..

  • +4

got my 28 Degrees shoppers protection claim ready to roll :D

    • +2

I just spent the last few mins cross-checking my price protection spreadsheet!

    • Same, originally bought an S21 256GB on release day for $1349 and the lowest price I've seen since then was $999. Going down to $672 in 8 months is awesome (if you have a 28D card that is).

  • +2

so what are we supposed to do if we're not a telstra customer yet? do we need to sign up anything when buying this outright?

    • +3

I'm wondering the same thing. Read up on some past Telstra deals and getting very mixed signals. There's people saying nothing is needed, others saying you need a $2 SIM, and more saying you need to sign up for a monthly plan.

  • No memory card support? Was interested until I saw that.

    • -1

No, this is a modern flagship, not a mid range/ old phone.

      • Literally every other Samsung flagship phone has had expendable memory. That's kind of been their thing.

      • Wouldnt say flagship, they have gone backwards with the s21 and at best it's a mid tier phone. For one, it's made of plastic unlike previous years. Doesnt come with a charger. Need to buy wireless headphones or an adapter. And still asking for a premium price. No wonder sales went down and now selling much cheaper. Samsung stuffed up on this one. But it is worth around $600-700.

        • Do they sell samsung charger separately?

          • @ATTS: Yep. Think the superfast samsung ones are around $30.

            • @tman2020: Thanks

Where can you buy it from?

Would it be from samsung website?

              • @ATTS: Yep. Or Officeworks, JB HIFI etc.

            • @tman2020: if we dont need superfast charger can we just use a normal charger? or are their disadvantages besides speed?

    I have an iPhone
    For anyone like to switch

Just don't backup your photos over iCloud and problem solved. Also most online storage systems already do this. Also don't get your news from news.com.au lol.

FYI, Google photos has already been scanning CSAM.

      • Darn never knew that
What a world we are going into

    • Unfortunately, you can't take a nation-wide news corp on face value. DYOR.

    • Interesting read for the upcoming IPhone 13

      https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.news.com.au/technology/inno…

      • no fingerprint reader = deal breaker

        • Wow ok didn't realise that I guess the older Iphones don't have finger print reader either,. something that's been around for Android phones for a while even budget Android phones

3 months ago ozbargain had a deal where this phone was sold for $449. And a month later another one for $549. And those phones did not come with telstra firmware mess either. Yet, This deal has passed the upvotes of them. I am puzzled.

    • +5

The deals you reference required a trade-in, so not really comparable. Also Telstra doesn't brand or fw these devices, they are the same as Samsung factory.

      • I got the impression that it comes with telstra firmware from one of the comments above.

Anways, the trade in was not mandatory. If you did not send the device, you will still be ok.

        • Anways, the trade in was not mandatory. If you did not send the device, you will still be ok.

This wasn't known at the time when the deal was available.

        • I think the firmware is modified for the carrier Samsung phones though you can't tell as they look identical,.. the only feature you'll notice different is the carrier fw versions are designed to update security/UI updates through the carrier seevers not directly through Samsung servers, though saying that (I couldn't find the website) usually the carrier highend Samsung phones actually get updates earlier then Samsung phones directly from Samsung update servers (which I found funny, going by my Note 9 and 10), why I didn't mind buying a Telstra 5G Note 10 512gb phone over my direct from Samsung bought Note 9 512gb phone

    • +6

      Those deals required you to:

      1. Have an available eligible phone to trade in.
      2. Obtain $200 discount code from talking to Samsung rep.
      3. Obtain $50 discount code from signing up to Samsung newsletter.

Even take a look at the mega thread of users asking for Samsung code.

      This deal:

      1. Buy phone from telstra.
      • yikes. 27 pages. It looks like the $250 code part wasn’t that easy. :)

  • So how do I actually activate this half priced?

    • Phone is unlocked. You need to setup it like any other standard andriod phone

      • Yeah but how do i buy the half priced deal?

        • You wait for Thursday and buy from Telstra.

          • @GTR12: So it won't matter if it's outright or a deal?

            • @Littlebob86: What ever the price stated currently on Telstra webpage outright will be half on Telstra day deal

            • +1

@Littlebob86: No, has as been said time-and-time again, read the link.

  • Gotta say. Gizmodo isn't the same without you @lukehopewell

    Also brilliant bargain

    Exynos or Snappy ?

    • +1

      Exynos.

      • Honestly don't think it's worth it as someone who heavily emulates. My op7pro is still doing great with the sd855, I would love to use a SD888 though.

        • I also got SD855 (S10) which is pretty great,

          • @bazingaa: So I watched a bunch of comparisons and the exynos runs much cooler compared to the 888

            Probably more with it honestly.

    • The exynos 2100 in these phones is great. On par with the SD888. Forget the old exynos memes.

  • The sub-heading on the page the OP linked says:

"Was $1,248. Save 50% off RRP when you add to an eligible Mobile plan."

Does that mean this deal only comes with a telstra 12 or 24 month plan?

    • +1

Minimum term is 1 month if you pay for a device outright online. Plans starting from $55.

The Telstra associate who posted the deal makes no mention of this so maybe they have made an exception and these deals can be purchased outright without requiring a plan. If not, then the deals listed in the title are unobtainable.

      • Last iphone deal worked fine outright. Purchase page has a plan selector on it, all literature seems to imply you need a plan. Just… don't pick a plan :) Goes through just fine.

      • If minimum term is one month, does that mean there will be a credit check? and also that we have to cancel and pay an ETC fee

  • iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 mini deals look to be live already ($1,049 & $799). Also Galaxy S20 FE 5g ($750).
    https://www.telstra.com.au/mobile-phones/outright-devices

    • So are they half price of original outright price? Maybe I should click above link 👍😁

  • Man, I wasn't even looking for a new phone but this got me cramming some phone reviews. OzB, WHY?!

  • I'm still using a Galaxy S8+ which is in good nick. Not sure if I should buy an S21 and keep it until the S8+ dies one day?

    • +1

Or buy this and sell the s8+ while it still has some value.

    • Buy this. Or secondhand S10+ for $450 secondhand if you can find a smooth one and don't need latest and greatest cameras.

  • Anyone know what the return policy is for unopened change of mind for an outright purchase?

    • Can return in store, just go to Telstra Live chat, have a chat tell them its a change of mind.

  • This will really dent the resale value of the s21.
The s21 has a 6.2 inch screen so quite small really.
    Does it support dex?

    • got dex yes

  • +1

I am an existing prepaid customer and tried to add it to my cart but it wants me to add a plan. Is there no way to order it without a new plan. I have already paid for 12 months prepaid so changing it to a plant temporarily is not an option.

    • On the product page just pick outright puchase and DON'T select any of the plan options, just add to cart.

  • Does anyone know how many years of updates this phone will receive? My Pixel 3 will no longer receive updates later this year. I was waiting for the Pixel 6 but at this price I might jump on this.

    • +1

Samsung usually support their flagships for 3 years.

    • samsung does 3 years of OS updates and 4 years of security updates, which is the best on Android side right now.

      • Is os update for example updating from android 11 to 12 when it comes out etc?

        • thats exactly right. Samsung does 3 years of that while most other phone manufacturers are still on 2 years of OS support and 3 years of security updates.

          • @PuntyBrah: Oh i see. Thanks thats good to know

  • +1

Anyone else having problems just going through the checkout? I put a device in my cart to dummy checkout (to make sure its working for tonight). It needs my license details for a handset purchase (not sure why) and then it spits the dummy saying 'something went wrong'. On chat for the third time. This is an awful lot of trouble to go through a checkout to buy a device outright.

    • Yup same issue, their site sucks

    • i want to do a test aswell

Is it if i havnt entered credit card details it wont finalise the purchase yet?

      • yes before I have even got to that part. It craps itself after the ID verification. Ive been on chat three times, the last time being an hour and honestly got no where. The tech clearly didnt read any of the history from previous chats and continued to not understand the issue. Their solution was 'create a new gmail account'. Not only is that idiotic, but I also told her the exact same issue is happening with my wife, so its obviously not isolated to my account.

        • omg happened to me to

          it said for ID verification

          "Something went wrong"

also would like to know for if people got to "step 2 Credit"

is that a credit check? ( i tested with phone outright But didnt get past ID verification but would like to know if there will be credit check)

    • I am getting this.

      Cart error
We're having issues loading your cart. Please try again.

    • well if it's not just me, there is gonna be a lot of angry comments after midnight tonight.

    • i get "Something went wrong" if I try to buy outright, but it works fine if i select a plan.
I have an old Telstra account but no active service.

    • Is it something to do with this, even though it's not a pre-paid mobile as such? https://www.acma.gov.au/acmas-rules-id-checks-prepaid-mobile…

  • S21 FE is about to be release, anyone know how much was S20 FE's price when released?
Also, is Telstra's S21 single sim?

    • +1

Heaps of reports of delays and chip shortages on the S21FE. I'll believe it when I see it.

All Australian S21s are dual sim. 1 physical sim, 1 e-sim.

      • Can they be used at the same? I guess one would setup esim first for there main mobile number then throw any physical sim in physical sim slot

  • -2

What time is this going live tomorrow please?

    • "We will roll out a full list of deals at 12:01am AEST on Thursday 2 September via Telstra Exchange"

      • -3

Yes I can read, thanks. I wasn’t asking about the other available deals however, just the one already announced. Not everyone does 9-5 so it’s helpful in planning availability.

Edit: OP is associated with Telstra so it’s a fair question to ask.

    • +1

      12:01am apparently

      • +1

Apparently you're supposed to be a mindreader to divine the actual question being asked

        • +2

Not really mind reading though is it? I directly asked the question when someone has assigned the ‘associated’ tag to their post.

I didn’t see anyone else asking actual launch time, so asked the question. Seemed fairly easy to follow when I posted the question.
