  • I thought $20 a TB was a good price?

    • Not many around. Especially with 5 year warranty, trustworthy and good cache

    • did you miss how crypto now uses storage? prices have risen across the board

      You expecting a 12TB drive for $240?

  • +3

FYI for anyone interested, these are CMR drives!

I thought CMR was better :/

      • +2

It is! Hence the exclamation mark!!
Seagate's barracuda range is all(most) SMR and only goes to 8TB.

      • That's the point they are making as it would be normal to assume these were SMR. They're also helium.

  • Isn't this better? Helium filled:

    • These are helium filled too.

    • Didn't you see how much they weigh?

    10 tb, cheaper per TB
should be CMR, bara pro, from googling

    need to manual shuck

    • Some have had Ironwolf NAS too.

    • USB 3 vs sata. I'd go with sata

      • +1

once you open the case, it becomes SATA

i had opened mine seagate 10 tb backup plus, inside is CMR bara pro.
per TB cost me only less than AUD$28

ordered 2, both bara pro, returned one due to bad sector and health only 97%

      • My 10tb that I shucked was a Ironwolf Pro.

I think that's the 2 usual suspects in them

Having had bad experience with HDDs before, if rather spend the extra pennies for a proper internal HDD like this one with 5 year warranty with 2 year data recovery

          • +2

@samsal46: Your backups make the 2 year data recovery completely worthless, so that's not really a selling point.

Secondly, the drives in the USB cases are proper internal HDDs - and are often higher spec drives than this one (Ironwolf etc).

Warranty period is significantly shorter, but they're also significantly cheaper…

  • How do these compare to the seagate iron wolf nas drives and iron wolf pros? I gather they are no where near the quality am I right?

    • -3

This one is highly reviewed for personal pc. Nas drives are loud and hot.

i find the comment 'store data faster' false advertising
