Kogan RGB Mechanical Keyboard (Brown Switch) - $26.99 + Delivery ($0 with FIRST) @ Kogan

150

My Razer Cynossa had a key base snap (the bit the key connects to) yesterday whilst Apex'ing. Still works but figured I needed to cover my bases as I suspect it may get worse.

Found this on sale today, seems like a good deal I know its been on sale before but cannot say if this is the lowest price or now.

Enjoy.

I have the blue switch version of these and has been good to me for the last year. Price does seem pretty similar to what i paid, i think i paid around $25. Its not like your high end mechanical keyboards but does the job.
Be aware that the keys are not full RGB, what you see in that picture is the colors you get on each key. I wasn't too fussed as i wasn't willing to spend $100+ when i don't game as much as i use too.

I got the blue key too and man it's loud. was fun at first and now think I should of gotten brown switch. I paid around $25 over a year ago. no issues this far.

yeah true it is a little loud but for me i never had a blue switch before so wanted to try out. funny enough i just ordered the brown switch version but without the keypad. only thing that really annoyed me about these long keyboards.

    • my brown switch is still fine. just the right shift key is a bit temperamental but that's to be expected at this price point.

same story with the blue switch TKL i'm typing on now — windows key needs to be pressed at a particular angle. blue switch is loud AF (and pings) but so satisfying lol

  • It's cheap, but not the best quality. It will get you out of a bind in the short term, but I wouldn't be relying on this as a long term option. You may have a good build and have a fantastic experience, but there's plenty of people that have been having troubles with these keyboards. They don't have the same build quality or switches as previous iterations.

I bought one a few sales ago and it has been working fine, possibly even in the 'great' category, but you can definitely feel the difference between one of these and a quality build from elsewhere.

If you urgently need a cheap keyboard in the interim before you pick up something proper, then go for it.
Otherwise just spend a bit more and get something that'll last a big longer.

My escape key on this started malfunctioning after 2 months of use, and my girlfriend (who I got the same keyboard for) started having issues with her escape key as well.

It feels like a great quality keyboard and I was honestly shocked when I first received it by how good it was.
But it became clear that you get what you pay for within the first few months of use.

  • We have a couple of these and they are ok.
The blue switch one I use is loud. The RBG options aren't programmable but there are a reasonable number of options.
Two of my keys have leds stuck in yellow, which isn't a big deal to me, but might drive somebody else up the wall.

Reminds me of typing on the old IBM model m keyboards, which is what I wanted.
I've been looking at nicer models from real brands as a future replacement, so be aware it is a bit of a gateway drug and you won't be happy with a soft membrane keyboard afterwards.

So, good for the money, but not in the same league as the $100+ alternatives.

  • I've had a few of these, currently using one for my current workplace.

The 0 key on the numpads stopped working roughly a month or two after opening and the letter M is a bit funny.

Good for the price but yeah.

  • I got an older version or maybe the slightly higher model. It was about $35 with First and discounts. I am amazed by how well it has kept going. I use it every day for work, occasionally for games after work as well, and it hasn't missed a beat for three years.

  • OP, I don't know what type of switch your Razer has but most mech switches are pretty easy to replace on your own.
You can steal the caps lock key in a pinch.

Not all switches are easily replaceable, depends mainly if the board is hotswap capable, and I doubt the Razer is. You'll probably need to take apart the keyboard to get to the switches soldered onto the PCB, desolder the switches, and find/use a switch that's compatible with the keyboard.

He did say most, not all.

And if 2 solder points are an issue, probably wise advising they stick to buying not building hardware anywho.

        • Its a cynossa so not mechanical. I actually prefer membrane style as I like the reduced switch height. But the base is like a plastic housing that the cap plugs into and that base (it has 4 thin walls) has snapped at the bottom part so the key has come off twice during gaming session the last couple days.

          • @ashoz85: Consider a lower profile mech? techware Phantom L is pretty good value hovering around the $50 mark.

            • @MasterScythe: Thanks ill take a look, already pulled the trigger on this one though cause of price lol.

  • Good board; have the brown version, outemu switches.

Input lag is very noticeable if you rhythm game, other games and office work its A-OK.

  • I literally bought this yesterday, loving it so far. Didn't think $93 bucks was to bad. Its a TKL though.
