SAVE21SAVE10

Site wide, no info on expiry, but appears to be for US back to school sales. Seems to be reusable?

Some deals (with delivery prices, which typically vary from $5-$15 per single item):

Item Sale Price (AUD)
Sennheiser HD 6XX $295.32
HIFIMAN HE-X4 $184.92
JVC HA-FDX1 $233.22

Between exchange rates, the lack of some regular sales prices, and covid, some aren't record lows, but there are some decent deals.

Happy to add more to the list if you throw it in the comments or post as a deal. Enjoy!

      Mmmmm Mt3 Dasher…

  • can't order HD8XX :(

    • +1

Yes they seem to have disabled pre-orders outside of the US & Canada in the last month or so.

First shipments might be made next month, but I'll definitely post a deal if it goes live again with the bonus Drop points.

  • Just got my 6xx last week. Took a month delivery from the US just FYI.

    • They're running a monthly drop at the moment for it, it's been that way since about April or May last year. Demand just went through the roof (hence why the price went back up $20 too).

      • Had no idea, crazy. Everyone wanting some great cans during lockdown

Ordered mine 31st of July and got it 17th of August so not bad for me I guess. Loving the HD6XX so far

  • Thoughts on Meze 99 noir to compliment my Sundaras?

    https://drop.com/buy/massdrop-x-meze-99-noir-closed-back-hea…

    • They have a very wooly and strong bass. If the goal is having a closed back option at $200 USD or less, I would look into the AKG K371 instead via Amazon, or maybe the Audeze Penrose from AtA if you want to reach a tad further.

If it's more about complimenting the Sundara, there's the 6XX.

If you bought your Sundara before the end of 2019, look into getting some Pali pads from HIFIMAN, which substantially change the sound. Look into Headphones.com and their Sundara 2020 review to get an idea on the difference.

  • I’m really disappointed in Drop these days. They got rid of everything except headphones and keyboards. I remember picking up some really cool stuff over the years from them, but now I don’t even bother visiting.

    • Covid did a number on their logistics, so they've shifted focus for the time being, as have some of their suppliers and partners. Some stuff will return in time.

  • Hi @jasswolf ,
Big fan of yours. Wanted to thank you for posting these deals. took your advice and went to a local shop to try out the HPs. I ended up with Beyer 770 Pro 250ohm. Note that I chose this over HD650 , DT1770 Pro. This means I really like the sound characteristics of 770 Pro. Any recommendation for an IEM sounds similar to 770 Pros? Would love to try it out.

    • I have been eyeing off the Moondrop Aria and Moondrop Starfield. Haven't decided which ones to get yet though.

    • Depends on why you like them really, but if you're looking for a high value and sound quality IEM, the JVC I've listed really hits a lot of marks, and can be tuned to three different signatures with its filter system. The Aria and the Starfield would be my usual picks if not for the JVC price.

Interested what you thought of the AKG K371 vs the DT770 if you tried that as well.

      • Not a technical sound guy but I will try to explain.

I think I like 770 because of the punch it gives. TBH I had high expectations for HD650. I was ready to order the 6xx online after listening to 650s. But they were not good for me from the moment I put them on. Everyone keeps praising how good the mids are in 650. but overall they were too boring. Not punchy enough. Tried increasing the volume and it was so uncomfortable to listen. Female voices felt a little shouty. Couldn't listen too long my ears started hurting.

AKG was not in the store that day But I can tell you the difference between 770 vs Takstar pro82. The soundstage was amazing on 770 pros. Takstar sounds a little hollow like you are in a tunnel. Takstar is missing the upper-end sparkly effect that coming from 770s. The bass can be adjusted in Takstar but it really doesn't match the bass of 770s which I really like. 770s is very textured at the upper end and a little relaxed at bass region.Takstar also little shouty buy manageble. I love everything about 770s. Takstars are okay for casual listening but I get bored after 15 minutes of listening. 770s I can go on for hours.

My ears must be unusual. I may be extremely sensitive to mids range. 770s are sibilant to many but not for me. I love the treble of it. So the U(or V) shape 770s has is the signature I'm looking for. I haven't heard any Harmen-tuned HPs but I have a feeling that I won't like it. I can try a Starfield from Amazon and return it if I hate it but love to know other recommendations?

Well, I entered that store to get my end-game HPs no matter the price. I chose 250$ 770 Pros over the 800$ 1770 Pros and 500$ HD650s. Im still happy I chose 770s and never wanted another upgrade. but I would love to get a pair of IEMs to use on the go.

Upper mids on the K371 are relaxed compared to Harman, so it might be more agreeable than you think.

Where did you get your Pro 82 from? It shouldn't sound particularly hollow in the mids if it's using the updated driver. The DT770 definitely has a wider soundstage and more bass though.

The magic of the 6XX/650 is the vocal timbre, the overall timbre and the detail level alongside this. It remains one of the best at what it does well across pretty much all headphones, which is an enormous feat for entry-level mid-fi.

Another IEM recommendation would be the Moondrop Blessing 2 Dusk, but it's a big jump up in price (around $400), and the Etymotic ER2XR ($110-$130 on Amazon).

Saw a new email today, they've dropped $25 (USD) off the HD 6XX - was hoping we could stack the two offers… Bugger

No code for the hd6xx offer but ends 5/09

Unfortunately it's been a long time since the 6XX has been below $180 + delivery with discounts, and factoring in exchange rates, that combo might have been a record low for what is probably the best-selling audiophile headphone in the world right now.

This does give me hope for November sales though!
