    $9? Tell him he’s dreaming.

Is kinda of steep. If he chucks in a Maccas soft serve, I'll take it.

    • It'll go straight to the pool room.

300,000 KM ex-taxi car on FB. This will go well….

What did you want us to say? We have no further information, no pictures, no details, no link, no condition assessment report, nothing.

Take it for an inspection if you are that keen.

    What do you think?

    YOLO!

    Camry Astra

I didn’t even know that was a thing.

    • Altise/Altara/Ascent Hybrid ltd edition for NT Taxi market..

    • Astra with Camry badges?

      • Probs better than a Camry with Merc stars.

        • +1

……or 86 with BRZ badge (may be illegal).

300,000 kms is not a huge problem for a well serviced engine and gearbox that hasn't done tonnes of heat cycles. (i.e it's spent most of its relatively short life running, not warming up from cold etc)

However, 300,000km is a lot of kms for the shock absorbers, suspension bushes, steering racks, tie rods, wheel bearings, aircon compressors, alternators and other wear components. I'd also be weary of interior and exterior wear of a uber likely driven by an operator that doesn't own or give a toss about the car.

Thankfully you (or a competent mechanic) can physically check most of this second category of stuff.

I'd approach with caution, do your checks, keep some of the money you've saved in a rainy day fund for future repairs.

So after your second week of ownership you find you've spent about 5 days cleaning strange organic substances from the cabin, are unsure of some strange stains on the roof lining and have figured out the rattles mean it needs some new parts to prevent the tyres wearing.

So you buy a wrecked spare so you can source a new interior and other pieces. But then you find you still need a few wear items such as brakes and suspension components (or you break them during removal),

You're now rapidly climbing in excess of $5k in raw costs above where you thought you were. But you're yet to discover it had a serious impact in the rear, and also on both sides at the front, which probably require some time on a chassis jig for straightening and then there's a bad panel repair on the side rear door… and… etc.

      • +1

On the plus side you might find some loose change under the back seat.

      • Yeah fair, but a competent mechanic will generally be able to work all that out - Including evidence of previous repairs.

        • If you have one, its easy to say. Few do.

For many it is easier to find a good car amongst all the available cruft, than a mechanic competent in the aspects you want, esp at short notice

    for $9

If it had any petrol in it, it'll worth more than that!

Could be $9 to take if off them and you'll be in debt for $20k to pay of their loan. 🤷‍♂️

    Why are we not surprised…

    They probably meant $9k .

    But, as someone who has a 300K 2007 Prius, a 200K 2010 Camry, and who's father had a 500K ex-taxi 2007 LPG Ford somethingsomething..

If you acknowledge it's a beater, and are willing to drive it to death - why not?
At it's age at 2015 - is pretty young. Probably has at least 3 years in it - in which case I'd value it at least 3k.

As others are saying - this might be a little too good to be true - check it out in person, and ask about its finance situation.
Get a REVs or equivalent check.

  • $9?

  • You could purchase an older model (2012) for around $10k with 150,000km

Ex taxis can be hell if they are not maintained well and 9K is a lot to spend for a car like that

  • I was looking for a car and found some under 2000. Thats what I am going with next, seeing as I paid 2900 for the last one (which has gone well)

  • +1

    Definitely won't be $9.
    Rego alone is worth more.

    Most likely $9k.
I'd stay away from anything 250k+

  • It's either not $9, or its fake.

Any wreckers would come and take it for more. As scrap metal is worth a lot more than that.

    Doesn't seem legit to me.

(unless it's really a Gray's auction with no other bids)

There’s a very good chance the (so far) one post wonder actually means $9k.

You’d be silly not to buy a $9.00 car with 6 months rego on it.

      • Indeed - I'm not looking for a car yet I'd take 3 of them at that price!

  • +1

$9, go for it! $9000, run away.

  • Don't buy it.
