[Pre Order] Sapphire Pulse Radeon RX 6600 XT $639 Delivered @ JW Computers

840

For those who missed out on the $589 + $16 Delivery @ PC Case Gear $605 Total.
https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/643933

Pre Order, ETA 10/09/21.

This deals is only $34 more for what i would say is a much better designed card both in build quality and heat sink design with rear air venting above the aluminum back plate.
I purchased the RX5500XT version of this card a year ago for $229 and it runs super cool.
Bit of a wait but better then refreshing every day hoping a deal pops up.

Its nuts to think retailers are selling GTX 1660 Super's for $500+ when this thing is as fast as an RTX 2070, RX 5700 XT or RTX 3060 but uses only "160W" TDP

If you're into the ultimate "1080P gaming".

      • Can play a lot of titles at 1440p too

is getting an amd card really worth it? isnt RTX really good?

    • +6

      this is a genuine question

      • +15

At the moment this is good pricing as it’s close to msrp, you’d be hard pressed to find a nvidia card at this price, it’s most likely going be a gtx card and not as good… if you really want ray tracing then you have to go nvidia and to be honest you would want a higher end card for best experience… if your fine with 1080p/1440p then these cards are good for the price in the current market (this is a big caveat)… basically you get a 5700xt :)

        • +2

          Appreciate that response bro.

        • another quick question.

I currently have an i5-10400 and 1070, what would you reckon about upgrading to an 6600xt? Would my cpu bottleneck?

          • +2

@iLikeBargainz: No, that is probably the sweet spot for these cards anyway… but to be honest I’d stick with ur 1070 for another year unless it’s really terrible … maybe we’ll be out of this weird flux by then …

            • @scud70: this card is roughly double fps at 1440p.. isnt this a really good price for the card in general? Excluding the whole shortage and current situation w covid.

              • +2

@iLikeBargainz: Upgrade to 6600xt and sell your 1070 for about $400. Definitely worth it

        • -2

this is horrible pricing at msrp

      • just depends on how you game as well, small 24 inch screen, 144 hz, 1080p and you play completive games with occasional AAA
usually on comp games ppl lower resolution so they wont miss RTX

        I have 6800 xt and i prefer 200 + FPS at 1440 p over 100 maybe with rtx on
played quite a few games and cant really tell the difference to be honest but that's just me, some ppl cream all over rtx? i have no idea why

    • +6

Do you mean RTX as in the entire card range?
Or RTX as in ray tracing?

If you mean the entire card range, then, yes and no, an RTX 2060 is worse than this card, and so is a 2060 super, and maybe even possibly an RTX 2070.

If you mean ray tracing, yes, ray tracing is good, but are you prepared to significantly reduce your fps? Ray tracing is a rich gamer's game in my opinion, don't even bother below a 3070.

      • +2

DLSS makes ray tracing viable even on my 2070, and I'm not talking 30fps, I play at 1440p at minimum 80fps.

It's not worth it on all games but Control, Metro and even Amid Evil make incredible use of RT effects.

In fact those games run better with RT than Cyberpunk and Assassin's Creed runs without it.

Raytracing is only going to become more important in the future, current RTX cards are much better at it than Radeon. DLSS is also improving extremely fast which essentially makes RTX cards get faster with age. These combined mean RTX cards will age significantly better which is an important consideration for a midrange gamer I think.

If you need a stopgap card then a value Radeon is a good buy, but if this is a long term investment the extra for an RTX card is probably worth it.

AMD FSR vs Nvidia DLSS: Same Games, Which is Better? - The result is they are much the same… DLSS is more mature so its still a little better.. but FSR once they improve it (software side) its going to be a good alternative.

          https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zDJxBykV1C0

          • @vid_ghost: They aren't the same at all. FSR is a good sharpening algorithm but that's all it does, and there's no headroom for it to get better. It's as good as it will ever get.

And while FSR gets good results at high resolution it falls apart where it's actually needed: midrange. It sharpens a high resolution image well, but it can't get detail that's not there like DLSS.

Additionally, DLSS image quality goes up significantly with every update because NVIDIA have ML constantly training the DLSS algorithm. As it gets better at resolving detail you will be able to run fewer and fewer "real" pixels and fill in the gaps with DLSS, which is free performance for existing cards.

I'm sure AMD will have a real competitor to DLSS one day but FSR is not it and it's pretty ignorant to suggest it is.

            • +2

@MagnamoniousRex: Just taking hardware unboxed conclusion not mine i would think having an AMD alternative is good for everyone. PS5 and Xbox Series X will be using FSR at some point.

              • @vid_ghost: That's cool mate, just letting you know their conclusion should be taken with a grain of salt.

              • -2

@vid_ghost: hardware unboxed still thinks RT and dlss is a hoax so, his opinions aint valid

      • +1

RTX cores are an entire feature-set and not just raytracing. You can use the cores for DLSS which the later versions are fantastic upscalers to keep FPS high in more demanding games.

    • RTX is good but price inflated. Most RTX cards on sale are much higher than RRP.
This card offers best performance per dolllar.
There was hope GPU price back to RRP when cryptocurrency crashed in July but unfortunately the down trend is now over from oversea market, as cryptocurrency price increasing again from last a couple of weeks.
if you need a card now, this one is not a bad choice or you may want to pull trigger on the card you want soon.
No one knows when is next down turn, it could be a month or 2022.

      • +1

Its a 1080p card. Keep that in mind when purchasing.
For 1440p youd go with a 3060 ti or 6700 xt minimum

        • +7

Nah this card can definitely smash 1440p unless you expect to turn everything to max.

Most games if you turn down shadows and a couple of other effects you will get plenty of performance at 1440p.

          • -2

            @MagnamoniousRex: https://www.pcworld.idg.com.au/article/690429/amd-radeon-rx-…
i wouldnt say smash. its a 1080p card. nothing wrong with that

            • +3

@minatosensei: Did you even look at the benchmarks?

70-100fps in most games at 1440p.

The only exception is Gears Tactics (69fps) and the Ubisoft ones that always run like shit.

              • @MagnamoniousRex: "But as you’ll see in our benchmarks, if you step the resolution up to 1440p, the Infinity Cache’s hit rate decreases significantly, meaning the 6600 XT needs instead to rely on the traditional memory system much more. When that happens, the Radeon RX 6600 XT’s lead over the older 5700 XT plummets—and sometimes disappears completely. That makes sense: The 5700 XT’s much wider bus helps boost it to 448GBps of memory bandwidth, compared to 256GBps on the Radeon RX 6600 XT. (Infinity Cache isn’t counted in that—it’s much faster.) Also, 1440p textures put greater demand on memory. But it also means that while the Radeon RX 6600 XT does well enough at 1440p gaming, it shines brightest at high refresh-rate 1080p.'"
like i said nothing wrong saying its more suitable for 1080p, which it is. id personally want a 3060 ti or 6700 xt over it.
frothing over the price is fine, but thats all its got going for it imo

        • +2

          https://youtu.be/zEfViL-kv2A

Looks fine for 1440p, very comparable to GTX 1080Ti

        • +1

Yep. Even marketed on AMD's website as a "1080P gaming" GPU.

If you want a dead-end upgrade (or side-grade), otherwise go the higher-ups like the 6700 XT etc.

          • @Revrnd: exactly, let them froth over msrp value. and nothing else

    • +1

RTX enables two standout features: Ray tracing and DLSS.
As of a few months ago, only 130 or so PC games support DLSS or ray tracing…
There are more than 50,000 games on Steam alone (and of course many tens of thousands more that are released outside of Steam) so it is only a tiny portion of games that the RTX cards are able to offer something that the AMD cards do not.
If you are someone like me who on any given day could be playing a game from 1995, 2007 or 2021, then RTX/DLSS/Raytracing is pointless 99.9% of the time anyway.

  • Can we cancel after pre order if we find better deals

No. its $639 Delivered VS $605 Delivered from PC Case Gear for a out of stock not as good quality card

      • +2

Apologies I need to learn to read ☺️

  • +1

Thanks OP. Was looking for this all day. How did I miss it?

    • +1

It only showed up tonight.. I was also looking for sub $699 pricing and i didnt want to go for bottom of the barrel models from ASrock or Power colour.. This at least has the same heat sink cooling design as the sapphire nitro+ apart from the back plate colour and shape.

  • Sweeeet deal. Thanks OP

  • 32MH/s @ 55w is not half bad. :)

    • +1

      55w draw from the wall?

      • +2

GPU. Draw from the wall would entirely depend on the rest of the system's components. Easily another 30-50w. :)

        • I'm getting 31.96mh with 57w reporting in software.

I did take readings with a watt meter from the wall before and after. It's about 65w for the entire card extra from the wall. This is with a Corsair TX750 power supply (80plus bronze), so expect a a couple less watts if yours is 80 plus gold

  • +3

JW was pretty fast with my order for this, placed the order at about 1am on 12 August, got it yesterday evening.

EDIT: I am Sydney based, and the expected delivery date after I placed my order on 12 August was supposed to be between 17 August to 19 August.

    • How much did you pay? have they jacked up the price for this? I cant remember seeing any Sapphire Plus cards in stock on release day.. only Asrock and Powercolour at the $600 ish price.

      • +1

        I paid $629 this is currently $639.

The thread linked explains how another user phoned JW to ask about the $10 price increase, which they explained is a result of them having to order it from another supplier.

        https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/643933#comment-10875340

        • $10 sounds fair… if crypto keeps going up we may see $750-$800 pricing as standard for these cards.

          • @vid_ghost: Yeah, it sucks it went up by $10, but at least they're not jacking up the price because they can, given the current market.

    • Dude. You're lucky. Bought my on launch day and there's no progress on the order (via Kogan). I called on Saturday and they said they are expecting stock to arrive on the 17th. So… dunno what happened but hoping they are true to their word and deliver. Paid $541 after Klarna discount, so want the darn thing :)

      • +1

Yeah, I bought it directly from JW, but you saved ~$100!

Plus I'm still waiting on my new PSU from another shop before I can even use it.

        • +1

Hahahaha. Similar story. Still buying components. My little one wanted to build a gaming machine. Told him he'd be able to get a PS5 and XBox for the same money… but he declined :D. Got most of what he needs. Just waiting on a good deal on a B550(or B550m) motherboard. The Mortar WiFi looks good… or something similar. Snag is we need a USB 3.1 Gen 1 and Gen 2 header on the board. The case (Be Quiet 500DX) has a front Type A and C. PITA but 'am returning an Asus Tuf Gaming Plus WiFi as a result. Only paid $148'ish for that but wasn't clear on the Gen 1 Gen 2 situation. God awful terrible explanations on the internet. :D

          • @OrderedChaos: Sounds like your son and I are after the same motherboard haha. I'm still hunting a good deal on a B550m motherboard, air cooler and case fans then my build will be complete.

Also, was able to put the GPU in today, runs pretty well so far.

            • @FasterLad: Hahaha :). Missed the $179 deal on the B550 Mortar Wifi. It's now back up to $219, but being the Ozbargainer I am, I'll patiently wait for another deal :D.

              • @OrderedChaos: I'm still kicking myself for not picking up the Bazooka for $90 when I had the chance, granted I didn't know when I'd be able to upgrade my GPU.

      • Keep us updated if you get it on the 17th, I just spoke with JW computers and they said they haven't received any stock yet to ship and said it was not possible how anyone would've got one already, not sure who's telling the truth here…
they gave me an ETA from their supplier of 12/9.
I should've bought from PCCG if they said it was a preorder initially…

first time ordering from them and not a great experience so far.

        • Will do. Email feedback from JW Comp on Monday 16th was "My system is showing stock to arrive in the next 1-2 days."
So they're expecting stock to come in either today or tomorrow. Will call them on the morning of the 19th to check (aka bug them) :p.

        • +1

Proof I received mine: https://imgur.com/a/6t23TJD (PSU is the one I posted about on OzBargain the other day)

          • @FasterLad: Great, so I was blatantly lied to.
At first they were unsure when it was coming, then maybe getting more stock from supplier this Thursday until I mentioned this post for preorder 12/9 and they said yep, that's the ETA.
enjoy your card, thanks for the pic.

            • @WhatWhoWhyUsername: I believe the reason I got mine so quickly was that I ordered it at 1am on 12 August once it became available and displayed 'In stock'.

At ~2am someone asked for the link so they could buy it and it was already sold out, sometime that day the '$10 increase stock from another supplier' showed online.

So I'm guessing I'm one of the very few who was able to get their hands on one of the cards that was actually readily available.

        • Spoke to JW Comp today. They haven't received the shipment as yet. They anticipate that it should be in shortly - perhaps tomorrow?!?
Gonna give 'em the day and check in on Friday.
I asked whether I should be worried that I won't be allocated a card. They said it's been reserved so I will receive one. Taking with a pinch of salt until I get hard confirmation :). Will keep you posted.

          • @OrderedChaos: Which card did you order? I ordered the Asrock Challeger cards from JW through Kogan to get the $100 Klarna deal on the 12th around midday and got the shipping notification last night. I have an expected delivery date of this Friday.

            • @studentl0an: The Sapphire Pulse with the same Klarna deal. Placed at 2:30am of the 12th.

          • +1

@OrderedChaos: same BS I got given, read my comments few post down, they have no clue.

        • Just called JW and they say that they've received stock and the system is showing my order as ready for dispatch. I was told that I should receive a tracking number in the coming days. The online team is apparently pretty busy so one of the stores took my call.

        • Good news. The card is in transit - manifested on Sat and AusPost received it yesterday.
Kogan site isn't updated. Didn't receive a tracking email from JW. Found it on the AusPost portal.

    • I bought this card from Mwave on the 12th as well and paid $599 for it (before they jacked the price up to $679), but apparently they had to order from supplier (even though it was showing as 'In Stock at Mwave' when I placed the order) and was told it will take 6 business days, so I probably won't see my card until the 23rd. Maybe I should have bought from JW.

    • well this is unfair, I ordered in the afternoon 12 August and it is still processing.
Originally quoted 3-5 days shipping and still haven't received any updates.
you are very lucky to get it so fast.

Edit: I just spoke with JW computers and they said they haven't received any stock yet to ship and said it was not possible how you got yours so fast? So not sure who's telling the truth here…
the ETA from their supplier is 12/9 so now if this was made clear from when I ordered, I should've purchased elsewhere to get it faster but it is sold out everywhere.

  • You telling me this is better than a 3060?

  • +7

I don't understand the "the 6600xt cards are for 1080P only" comments

5 years ago a 1070 was a decent performing 1440P card…….I still got one running 3440x1440 and it still performs adequately.

The 6600xt might be a cheaper card but it'll do fine at 1440P

    Having said all this……HOLD!

They don't deserve our money until the prices keep coming down.

    • Maybe they ran cyberpunk at 1440 on it, saw it ran like crap and just assumed 1080p card.

      • Some people seem to think they need to run everything on ultra high.

    • Yeh me neither… essentially it’s a 5700xt which was a 1440p card, so I’d expect it to be in the same category… I have the 5600XT, that’s a 1080p card but can do 1440p with lower settings

    • +1

it's a 1080P card by 2021 standard, because it only has 128-bit memory bus and a memory bandwidth of just 256GB/s, so compared to cards with 256-bit memory bus and GDDR6 memory, the 6600xt performance falls off quickly when the resolution is increased. For example the 6600xt is about 7-8% faster than 5700xt at 1080P, same as 5700XT at 1440P, but 10% slower than 5700XT at 4K, because 5700XT has a 256-bit memory bus and memory bandwidth of 448GB/s (same as RTX 3060 TI/3070). AMD markets this card as a 1080P card so that people will overlook/forgive its poor performance at higher resolution.

    • It's even on AMD's website.

Ok, so it might still do ok at 1440P on some titles, but at the end of the day, it was designed with 1080P gaming in mind.

    • Given crypto's picking back up again might not wanna wait again. Otherwise who knows, these cards might start fetching $1000+ if they're popular with the miners…

  • +1

Got one thanks, only want to play Valorant, Diablo II resurrected at 1440p max and Apex legends in 1440p low graphics so this is perfect

  • +3

    wow, OOS too quick

  • +3

seem to be all gone (for now, hopefully). skycomp also has this card available for preorder for around $30 more: https://www.skycomp.com.au/catalog/product/view/id/828293/s/…, but at that point the price is more in line with other models. probably best to wait til tomorrow and the following business days when hopefully some more stock will come in

  • Good for CSGO?

    • +2

      very good

    • +1

most cards from the past 8 years are good for CS GO

      • Ok. No point upgrading, 1060 is kicking strong.

  • +2

Also bought one. Passed on the first round of cards hoping for a 3060TI or 3070 but honestly, the value for money compared to the market currently is too good too pass up. Sell and upgrade once cards settle and 4000series are released. Also if a good deal comes out before this, can cancel and get that.

    Ez Pz, thanks OP

  • Good deal

  • +3

Reading all the comments and by the time I finished it's gone.

    • +1

Same here on release day… i waited…. I've been using an RX470 4G from the day it was released. Cost me $275AU from Amazon US ( no GST and at the time there was no Amazon AU ) lol . it still runs everything i want to play fine but its time for an upgrade and this had a TDP i can accept.. "Would still rather lower" but not sure we will see anything at the 150W and lower range anytime soon.

      • +1

Same here brother! I am still using RX480 8G. Been HODL-ing ever since but these crypto thing wont stop anytime soon.

  • +1

Thanks OP. Have orders all the parts from PCCG from the Klarna deal except the GPU, and been tired of waiting for genuine deals of good value cards with decent design. This seems to tick all the boxes, and I quickly pulled the trigger right after seeing the post.

I've almost settled on the XFX 6700 XT, but figured at 40% more expensive but only 20% better performance it's not worth it. I will wait for the RTX 4000 or RDNA 3 anyway (hopefully the crisis will be over by then).

Will keep an eye in the next 3 weeks to see if there's any better deal coming up but at least I'll have something to use if things become worse.

    • +1

I was thinking the same thing.. but mine was more of a i wouldnt know what to do if my RX470 died… I've had it running now for over 5 years daily and its sitting in a newish R7 3700 Zen2 system with 32gb DDR4 3600.. would hate to have to rush a purchase and end up with a overpriced 1650 Super or RX5500XT ($500)

  • God dammit, I keep missing these deals or they go OOS too fast. Would rather this than an old gtx 1080ti secondhand for the same or more price…

  • +4

For those who are interested in this card…
Yeah the RTX 3060 ti is a better card if RRP was a thing. But when a GTX 1660 is selling for the same price, and if you really need a card, then this is a good bet. This review makes interesting reading especially in light of it being slammed by YouTube reviewers. Wasn't aware of the Trixx software tweaks.
