  • Just wondering what's the difference between Australian stock and imported stock? Don't they come from the same factory? and most imported stock comes with warranty anyways. Thanks :)

    • difference in warranty.

No they dont. You're super wrong mate.

Canon and Nikon Australia will only deal with australian stock for warranty issues. You can take a camera bought from overseas to them but they will charge you to service/fix it.

For grey market stock, most stores will either organise to have it posted back to them, or ask to send you to send it back to them, who will fix it and send it back to you (usually by sending it on to whatever region the camera originated from, japan/hk etc).

        • RE your post down below, not sure about the nikon lenses. Canon L lenses used to be international but they changed them as of September 2011 (only regional now).

Canon and nikon bodies are definitely regional tho. It's well known. What you might be talking about would be anywhere in the EU will service EU cameras.

You'll be shit out of luck trying to get canon australia to service a camera under warranty that was bought from HK tho.

I can point out the clause in the warranty on their website if you like? (Edit: see below)

Like I said above, you can go to canon australia and get a camera serviced no matter where it came from, just they will charge for it if its out of warranty or from another region (unless you're part of CPS and NPS, they will service internationally)

The Customer must provide the original proof of purchase which demonstrates compliance with the above conditions to receive any services under this warranty.

          RE Nikon: http://www.nikon.com.au/en_AU/grey_market.page? and http://www.nikon.com.au/en_AU/warranty.page?

When you purchase any new Nikon Digital Equipment from a Nikon Australia authorised dealer*, you automatically receive a Nikon Warranty for the repair or replacement of your Digital Equipment in the event of any manufacturing defects for one year from the date of purchase (Warranty Period).

          and

WARNING Please be wary of dealers claiming to be able to sell or provide you an international warranty for digital equipment when you are purchasing overseas. THIS WILL NOT BE A VALID NIKON WARRANTY. An international warranty is unavailable for the above items.

Nikon also seems to cover lenses and speedlights with an international warranty, so there you go.

Australian stock has a 1 year warranty with canon australia, as well as come with a proper english manual and australian battery charger. Imported stock will often come with a 12/24 month warranty but where you have to send it back to the store of origin for them to deal with (who often just onsend it to canon japan/canon HK) and will usually come with a photocopied english manual and a battery charger with an australian adapter.

Other than that, they are exactly the same and yes, come out of the same factory. It's just up to you whether or not that $$$ discount is worth the australian warranty and manuals/chargers etc.

This is a really good deal in any case, aus stock 5D is pretty decently priced (if I was in the market for a mk2 I would have snapped one up - waiting on the 5D3 tho)…

  • Isn't Canon going to announce a possible new replacement model for 5D II on 28th February? This is a decent price for Australian stock, however some people may want to wait for the announcement of new model before committing to buy a new camera. There is also a chance 5D II price may drop further once the new model is announced.

it is why they do the promotion which finishes on 28/2

      • Then it will be cheaper after that.

  • to some NewB, 5D MARK THREE is on the way.
i am a nikon user. any deal for Nikon, rep?

  • RRP for the 5DX over $4k here I am going to wait and see what it's like before upgrading my MKII, most likely canon will keep the MKII for a while as its a different price point.

  • What are the chances of a 60d replacement arriving soon?

    • Anything is possible.

    • Is this a good price for a 60D? Looking to get a lens up to 155mm or around there.
Sorry I'm new to photography n never had a dslr before. What's this 60D replacement?

"Sorry I'm new to photography n never had a dslr before"

        I don't think you need a 60D…I've been doing photography for a long time, and I don't need a 60D!

        • Would you recommend the 600D then?

    • I don't think it will be too imminent, the 60D replaced the 50D only very roughly 2 years ago, not a long time for these cameras.

  • The 5DII is a great camera and this is a great price.

Hilariously, I paid $300 more from the same store only yesterday. The service was great.

    • haha was the service worth $300? I'm sure they can work out something for you if you go back
