Fiskars Medium Powergear2 Ultrablade Bypass Lopper $29 (Was $50) @ Bunnings

3090

Bought this for $50 a couple months ago and it has been great. Been using it to trim branches for kindling.
Looks like price has quietly been reduced.
Really good quality so worth the price.

Most of their stuff now is

      • Their cheaper stuff is but the more expensive gear is still made in Finland - or Portugal. Some items made in Taiwan.

I wouldn't buy it if made in China.

        • +5

I had Fiskars 4 Prongs Xact Weed Puller made in Poland and claims to have 25 years warranty. It refused to work 2 months after purchased from local Bunnings…. Any thoughts?

Im confused so if made in china will you buy it or not?

          • @Chchnu: PROC or ROC? I guess neither?

          • @Chchnu: No but nothing to be confused about really

        • No one cares whether you’d buy it or not

          • @louuisc: Indeed they don't - as it would be for what you'd buy or not buy. Why should they?

Your post is somewhat ridiculous though as half of what's written on this website is about buying choices. Why bother being on here? It's basically all just opinion champ!

            Bizarre.

OP's item cuts well according to the reviews.

Stereotype reviews just doesn't cut it :)

      • +7

        It does the job

      • I have these. Work well, no idea where they are made, I selected in store based on build quality, the action etc.

    • +4

I really want to know why people downvote on legit question on where this item was manufacture. Good to know that China is pumping out good quality stuff.

      • How do you know it's made in China?

I have a pair of Fiskars cutters that were not made in China

    • +3

Isn't almost everything made in China these days?

I just ordered one for pick-up so maybe change your nominated store?

    • Same problem until I set my local store which had it in stock and then I could purchase one. (postcode 3844, VIC)

    • I apologise - my error
(how can I hide this admission from my wife who also frequents OzBargain?)
can enough people neg this comment to make it disappear? :)

    Thanks OP.

If it lasts as long as my Fiskas secateurs I'll be happy.

I think Bunnings must have changed their website recently. Everything was showing out of stock online and instore for me a few days back. I had to set my local store (again) in a slightly different way from memory, which seems to have worked, although it did seem to take a couple of attempts. I don't have an account.

    • They have indeed. I spoke to an employee he said it has been a nightmare for them, a lot of issues with incorrect stock

      • +1

Not so bad. I waited 70 minutes on phone to Westpac today and they couldn't help me.

        • +14

Yeah, not the best place to call when you want to know about stock at Bunnings.

          • +3

@odysseus: I was wondering why they laughed and hung up…

            • @abacus: A 70-minute laugh must be the world record.

      • Must be using the K mart system

Will the work well for bamboo?

    • +1

does up to 40mm from memory…makes short work of anything ive used it on (mandarin tree, grape fruit tree, bay tree, rose branches etc)
if it can cut tree branches/wood i reckon it will tear thru bamboo

Cheers, feels like that video was made specifically for me! I'm sold.

    • I don't know what size this one is, but I use the large version of this for bamboo up to 2" in diameter.

  • 27.55 with powerpass :-P

    • do you buy it in-store or online click and collect?

      • if you have powerpass you can buy in store or click and collect.

        • I can't find anywhere to add the card online

          • +2

@RichardF89: you mean add powerpass? You need to register your powerpass account, this one is different to the normal website. You can find it here https://www.bunnings.com.au/trade

            • @mmcs: I have always been wondering how to order online with powerpass. That trade website seems to be for quotation only and after you have placed an "order" someone from the store would have to call you to draft up the order, take your payment and send it through. Am I missing something? Why doesn't it allow you to simply place an order online and pay with your credit card as the regular one?

              • @truetypezk: Last time when I bought with trade online, they sent an sms to let me know that order is ready for collect. So basically, it is the same as their normal online store, except you'll get ~5% off the shelf price. You can choose to pay online immediately or in-store when pick it up.

                • @mmcs: Is your powerpass on a credit account or just the discount card type? I can't find an option to pay online.

                • @mmcs: How do you actually buy with trade online ?
                  There's no checkout process 🤷🏼‍♂️

                  • @Nom: I bet you haven't been trying to check out lately. Try again to be surprised!

                    • @truetypezk: All I can do is "Add To Enquiry" and make a shopping list.
There's no cart or checkout on the trade site for me…

                      • @Nom: Yep, just keep going to the final step. They have added the pay online option now.

                      • @Nom: They've even added the following:

Submitted enquiries will be finalised and confirmed by a Bunnings Team Member. All enquiries are subject to availability of supply and your account will not be charged until goods have been dispatched. Enquiries that require weekend pickup or delivery are subject to product and transport availability. Paid enquiries (orders) will be finalised at the point of submission online. Should there be an issue with the order, a Bunnings Team Member will be in contact with you.

I guess they have made the changes due to covid. Their choice of the word "enquiry" seems really peculiar to me though.

                  • @Nom: yes it does have. the website looks ugly but it works. :-)

                • @mmcs: I just tried again, seems they have added the option of online payment now. It used to be only able to "submit enquiry" and wait for someone to call. I haven't been trying to buy online for quite a while so thanks for the updates:)

              • @truetypezk: Yep, I also haven't found any way to click and collect with a Powerpass card 🤷🏼‍♂️

            • @mmcs: so buying from the trade website rather than the bunning one

        • +2

Also a tip for those trying to sign up for the powerpass in VIC, just change your state on the bunnings registration powerpass website because they have made a drop down and disabled new VIC registrations due to the lockdown.

Nice bit of gear. Be warned - blade will suffer if you use it on dry dead wood. Works like a charm on green wood though - ours has done several cubic meters of to date. Very happy with mine, and the blade is replaceable.

I've had reasonable experience with Fiskars tools in the past, but if you want a pair of loppers that last a lifetime with heavy use, you can't go past Wolf Garten: https://www.wolfgarten.com.au/products/orchards-shrubs.html?…. The design and build quality of their loppers is excellent and reflects where they are made (Germany). Their loppers cut through thick branches with ease and feel very comfortable to use, even after repeated use throughout the day. The loppers are easy to service, parts are easy to get (if you ever need them) and customer service is first rate (they sent me a replacement part at no cost after many years of use and abuse, no questions asked). Of course, Wolf Garten is more expensive (in the short term), but I've found that the added cost pays off in the long-run if you're a heavy user. Whenever I use any other loppers now, I just feel disappointed.

    • +3

      You must love your loppers.

  • Not very handy for the zombie apocalypse though. Would have to be a very patient and understanding Zed to allow you to chop him with this.

  • Great product. Bought the last item a few days ago in Thornleigh, NSW.

    • Have just seen Bunnings has a similar Lopper/Pruner set for $29. Looks like slightly different models, so not sure which is better

      • This one has the powergear2 mechanism for 3x cutting strength, suited to cutting thickier branches. The one you saw has the basic cutting mechanism, will require more strength from you to cut same branch but includes a pruner.
