I need beans, but not sure I want to take a gamble with the quality/roast dates.

  • Thanks, was going to post.

  • How would these be in an aeropress?

    • Interested also….

    • I was curious too, found this on two of the questions on Amazon Review:

Question:Is this suitable for cold brew
Answer:I think it’s not suitable.it’s Only suitable for coffee machine.

Question:Is the grind suitable for cold brew and french press?
      Answer:Suitable for coffee machine only

I'm on the edge of my seat wanting to know what a "coffee machine" is/isn't

        • +1

My bet from my limited knowledge is that the grind matters in this case, which might mean they are reviewing the ground one? If not, maybe they should be adjusting their grind level on their grinder?

      • +1

Depends on your grind. At this price, there are probably questions around the freshness and quality of the beans but as long as you grind appropriately, it should be fine. You'll probably just not get an amazing bloom as you pour.

I just would not expect a cup with vibrant and nuanced flavours. But it'll probably be perfectly fine, just choose your roast level in accordance with what you like.

    • I used some Harris smooth pre-ground coffee in an aeropress for a week when we lost power and was pleasantly surprised.
Freshly ground beans hopefully even better :)

    • +1

I like the harris beans in my aeropress. Favourite supermarket type beans for it. The grind is finer than you want, so definitely better to get whole beans and grind yourself if you can.

    • I use these in an aeropress, they seem ok. I'm no coffee pro and throw a bit of milk in mine but given the price I find them suitable. I've not found them any worse or better than the many brands I've tried that come off supermarket shelves.

This stuff is pretty horrid, have 2 bags in my pantry because it's impossible to make a decent cup from.

Tried everything and it would just taste horrible. Went back to buying my usual beans which are slightly more expensive but could very quickly get the right settings dialed in and back to have delicious coffee.

    • Smooth is not nice at all, has a citrus flavour and is too light a roast. Tried the 'Very Strong'.. much better.

    • Out of curiosity, what are your usual beans, and how are you making coffee?

  • +2

Good for garden / plant fertilizer ?

    • Yep.

  • Is this as good as Aldi coffee??
I need to get a bag of something cheap to dial in some espresso for a machine I just fixed.

    • +4

I'm no coffee expert, but this one is not as good as Aldi's one. I would rank Harris <Aldi < Grinders( $20/kg on Amazon).

I still have almost full 1kg bag of Harris's beans from last sale.

      • +2

Grinders coffee is better than Aldi?
Was that comparing with the Aldi blends or the single origin?

        • +4

Grinders coffee is better than Aldi?

          I raised an eyebrow, too.

Aldi coffee is generally very fresh. Grinders on the other hand, has the mustiness of a wet sock.

  • Honestly, I actually quite like this. Specifically the Very Strong beans.
I use it for a 24hr cold brew after manually grinding.
I've tried a few others, like Killer Coffee, and actually prefer this.
As far as cold brew goes, I would compare this very closely to what you can get at Gloria Jeans.

    • +2

I agreed. I used to pick up their Green (Strong) beans for my flat white. Some of the Aldi beans seem to be weak.

  • +4

I hated the smooth, awful, too light a roast and has a citrus flavour. The 'Very Strong' is the best. Just bought 1kg for $13.50 last week..

    • +1

      yeah that changed recently

  • +6

Save it for the in-laws/visitors you don't want coming to your house again (by serving them bad coffee) 🙃

  • +1

I bought very strong and like it.

If you have subscribed and saved last time when it was $10, now it automatically changed to $9.

    • +2

I believe it can go up as well?

      • Yes indeed.

  • +2

    Everyday price at NQR.

Garbage coffee, the bags I got from NQR had a long expiry (so relatively fresh roast dates as far as supermarket coffee goes) as well so I don't believe being old/stale was a factor.

Way better off to spend $13.99/kg for aldi single origin - I prefer the Brazil. Even regular Med/Dark roast at $11.99 craps on the Harris from great height

  • This is what work buys and it's horrible compared to the amazing stuff I get from Ozbargain regularly. Having said that $10 for a kg of coffee is nothing to be shirked at if you want to give it a shot.

  • +1

For anyone considering this you should check out Lime Blue specials on Ozbargain. They come up really often and the quality is fantastic. https://www.ozbargain.com.au/search/node/lime%20blue%20type%…

    • Good point about limeblue. I was sceptical about their pea berry Brazallian at first but they were great.

  • What's this about 'subscribe and save' - am I going to be enrolled into something I'm stuck with?

    • You can unsub any time.

    • +1

What til initial S&S order has been posted before unsubscribing.

The Harris organic coffee is quite nice. Haven't tried the other ones.

  • Never tried Harris but I I have some courtesy credit and need some coffee. Can't decide between strong and very strong. Anyone have a comparison?

Edit - Never mind, got one of each.

    • Was gonna say, toss a coin and save yourself the stress.

  • S&Sed, thanks

  • Drinking the "strong" when writing this, pretty decent, definitely worth $9-$10.

  • +1

Looks like the Strong beans are now out of stock. I picked up some very strong/smooth/organic - thanks OP.

  • +1

I use these to make cheap coffee ice cream and it ends up tasting good.

  • Very Strong is OOS

  • From experience I avoid citrus flavour because I have coffee with milk. A choc flavour goes better with milk. Aldi beans are pretty decent beans. First time trying Harris.

    • Which Aldi beans would you recommend in medium roast.

      • +1

I actually really like just the medium beans from Aldi.
