This seems to be the only discounted pre order around, so worth a post in case anyone is thinking of getting the revolutionary new oled switch.
Price protection. Release day delivery.
Neon only unfortunately

Not even haha they slapped an OLED, the same tech used in the first PS Vita… too bad Steam deck is not yet available for preorder in Australia.
Well it's made by valve, so the release date should be sometime between the date they published and the end of the century.
Launch title of Steam Deck will be Half Life 3.
@kevorulez: That hurts 😔
@kevorulez: How dare you type out that number!
no. Revolutionary is apt for me considering i'll be upgrading from a wii.
Anyone with a switch already hopefully reads it with the intended sarcasm.
what a massive discount on such a great device!! bought 10, thank you!!!
I kind of figure if you don't already have a switch then sure, get the OLED. It's not for people to upgrade to though (which disappoints me just as much as the next person).
As someone who doesn't own a Switch, and Switch being a console that has been out for years and is readily available and at discount, paying RRP is not for me. Sure, for a brand new console where there is massive scarcity caused by greedy scalpers, but for just a new screen??
I dont even think the scalpers will make a big effort for this one. Anyone who wanted a switch would have bought it last year at the peak of the pandemic. Anyone who still doesnt have a switch will feel its not the upgrade people are waiting for. It will be out of stock once released but wont be for as long as the ps5.
I agree, I don't think scalpers care much about OLED Switches, I more meant that posting RRP on OzBargain for an OLED Switch probably won't entice new buyers. I can see the point of RRP PS5 and Xbox Series X/S given the scalping situation.
I play my Switch docked TV mode 99% of the time. I can't wait to get this new model so I can finally get built in ethernet LAN input
The dock is backwards compatible ;)
I was being sarcastic
I know ;)
Yesssssssssss
If they released a Zelda or Metroid edition I'll be all over it.
bagin
Bilbo
HOOOOLD
DOrrrrrr
It makes me irrationally angry seeing this OLED model. What in the hell were they thinking
Nintendo was thinking profit margin and $…
From a business point of view it makes sense.
And an OLED screen is a good upgrade for people who play handheld often.
Of course I want a bump in processing power but for Nintendo its not practical at the moment especially if they will struggle with demand due to the massive chip shortage.
Take a look at PS5 where they are cant meet demand.
On top of that the current Switch is still selling heaps. From a business point of view it would be silly to stop the flow of sales with something new which they cannot be sure they can meet demand.
Remember Nintendo is a business and not trying to keep everyone happy with what customers demand. They know people will still pay for it. Its like with the Iphones, with the outdated technology compared to other phones but it still sells and Apple charges a premium knowing people will still buy it.
how about this year? still 60hz, man that turned me off last year.
I totally understand and as much as I want a Switch Pro, i don't see it happening soon.
I think Nintendo will keep this ace up their sleeve once sales start dwindling.
But honestly I don't need super fancy graphics. I would prefer a good quality game with great game play and story.
I would like an upgrade, sure… but 60hz on a handheld is completely fine for 99 percent of people. That said, can’t even see where it says the specs are 60hz anyway.
And how many customers are really demanding a more powerful Switch? A vocal group for sure, but a sizeable chunk of their potential customer base? Debatable.
I wasn't expecting a 'Switch 2' until the world is clear of the chip shortages/logistics problems, it just wouldn't make any sense to launch a product now, have a big buzz and then have severe shortages and a much higher production cost.
My biggest bug-bear with the switch was a lack of wired ethernet on the dock, and the screen quality, I'll be grabbing one of these, and as a family we can play Splatoon etc together, so I'm fine with the OLED release.
I'm looking forward to a new Switch at some point, but if it is another year or two away it won't bug me, a much better chance then of it being a much better machine, that can actually be purchased at launch.
A vocal group for sure, but a sizeable chunk of their potential customer base? Debatable.
For every adult bitching on Reddit etc about frame rates, there are probably 20 kids who just want to play Pokemon and Smash with their friends yeah
@Merlict: And for each kid there's a paying parent happy the price hasn't increased too much.
Nintendo ordered 30million new Switches for 2021. That’ll be 125million Switches by end of 2022. The OLED screens were ordered around the same time for probably a different model than we got. But plans fell through and decided to use the screens anyway. The decision comes down to giving the current switch another 2 years of life before a successor is brought out.
I will play handheld when I can move about again!
For me, the Switch is currently abiding to stay-at-dock orders.
Lmao you can buy an OLED gaming capable smartphone for that price
JK
Will that stop my 3 kids bugging me for a switch?
Honestly, you can probably pick up a switch pretty cheap second hand right now since a lot of people will probably be offloading them to get the updated version.
PASS
4 years later and they increase the price for a nicer screen… Lol
That's Nintendo for you.
720p oled, no thank you.
Does this have a glass screen or is it still shitty plastic that scratches ?
If Nintendo made it glass maybe it’s worth it?
The plastic is a deliberate choice to reduce shattered screens, it's a device that will be used by young kids.
My launch unit isn't scratched.. rarely leaves the dock though lol
Not hard to use a screen protector kids use phones and all phones are glass so it’s a dumb choice and cost cutting measure.
"Not hard to use a screen protector" - wouldn't that also protect the current plastic screen from scratches at the same time as make it near impossible to crack, unlike glass phone screens that will crack even with a protector?
Look around any school, or even any bus, the amount of shattered screens on phones is astounding.
Use a screen protector on the current Switch, ours is nearly two years old and doesn't have a scratched screen.
Not hard to use a screen protector
Erm, you do realise this also solves the problem of the plastic screen scratching ?
The number of times my kids have accidently dropped their Switch, plastic was a good choice for this reason.
I've pre-ordered, I don't have a switch at all (never have) so I figure this isn't a bad time to buy in and try some new games. It's a disappointing upgrade all told, but for someone without a switch it's definitely worth $74 more for an OLED screen.
I've only ever played Xbox/PS games. Can anyone recommend some must have Switch games to go with it for someone totally oblivious to the Nintendo ecosystem.
Top mentions are Mario Odyssey, Zelda Breath of the Wild, Smash Bros Ultimate, Luigis mansion 3, Donkey Kong Tropical Freeze, Mario Kart 8 etc.
Theres plenty but really depends What genre are you usually into.
I like RPG/adventure/story driven games. Things like AC games, Last of Us, Wolf Among Us, The Walking Dead, etc.
Just kick back and enjoy the adventure, my "serious" gaming I reserve for PC.
Does Nintendo have any kind of "game pass" type option or am I stuck buying one game at a time?
Are you more into Action RPG or dont mind some traditional JRPGs?
Definitely give Zelda Breath of the Wild a Go as its a big open world and you can do as you please without having to go on a linear path. There is a story behind it but the story differs depending where you go first.
If you don't mind JRPGs i'd recommend the Xenoblade series, Dragon Quest XI, Y's VIII, etc,
Hades, Hollow knight, Celeste, Dead Cells etc. are great metroid vanias that are fun and kill time.
@SpeedRunnerLink: Have never played a JRPG but if I enjoy action RPG I don't think I'll have any qualms about trying a JRPG.
You're a legend man, I've bookmarked this comment to come back and buy a few closer to release date and to keep an eye on any specials.
There's semi-regular deals on Switches which put the difference far more than $74. Unless you intend to regularly play handheld, I can't see a point to going for the OLED one.
Overcooked series if you have friends.
I've pre-ordered but if a <$350 deal on current model pops up in the meantime I'll probably cancel the order. OLED is easily worth ~$70 imo, but $170 is a stretch.
I've done the same, but there's no one selling even close to your < $350 mark though.
I just missed the Amazon one for $370 and no one's even come close to the $400 mark now.
Got old switch, ye nah
Revolutionary new old* switch
I really hope they can re-release some more Wii U games to go with it.
Disclaimer: may not be my true feelings, conditions may apply, see in store for details.
Lmao the Wii U well has just about run dry. Nearly all of the good games have been re-released, it's time for Wii ''''''''remasters''''''''
“the only discounted pre order around”
Demand has gotta be soft to see even one discounted pre-order. Disappointing upgrade with unnecessary regional price gouging. Oh Nintendo :/
what regional price gouging? +US$50 vs +A$70 for the oled model so not much in it at all.
Fair point 👍🏼
As a Nintendo fan… This is just stupid pricing…
You should know as a Nintendo fan to never buy it on launch and just wait a few months.
that goes without saying with any new product.
I got my switch for $290 Amazon lighting sale this was when we had cash back etc… mines the pre 2019 model …I guess my point is this model should have been released at same price as previous version and previous was discounted to clear… Neither versions were worth the RRP… At $300-350 however they are definitely worth it (most used console in my house hold)…
Nintendo garbage
Did you mean to say evolutionary?
