its to cover the gst.. duh i really missed the old time (no gst on ali)

I guess we can thank Gerry for this ridiculous tax.

and the LNP for accepting his "donations"

    • Then you stack with cashback and end up getting a discount :)

      • Would be invalidated due to using a promo code

    • Wait, what? Is this new? wasn't AU in some sort of a trade agreement where orders below $1000 aud didn't require tax collection ?

  • Does this stack with new user voucher?

    • Correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm pretty sure a code like this will replace the new user coupon

    • I've been able to stack normal voucher with this.
Don't know about new user voucher.

Is it just me or has aliexpress become expensive? I normally buy electric scooter spare parts from aliexpress because it used to be significantly cheaper than buying from local based ebay stores, but this seems to be no longer the case.

    • +2

It varies on what you want but I do find it to be more expensive on a number of things where going to Amazon / eBay is much better

    • Really depends, If the item is popular in Australia then most dealers here have imported in in mass anyway, Its moreso the the smaller quantity's where you can make a decent saving.
For example I saved $70 on a CCTV Camera last night buying from Aliex over Australian distributor websites/ebay (Could of been $80 if I waited till this deal)

    • +3

Yeah aliexpress is too expensive for the quality of product and the speed of delivery. Now I only use aliexpress for their range of products, when I need some obscure part or if I ever need an commercial sized water park.

Aliexpress has gone through some big changes in the last year or two. The big two are they no longer ship via free post (its quicker and more reliable now, but it adds a few bucks to every order) and they don't let you sort by price.

The other thing, which I suspect but haven't looked into it enough to say for sure, is market manipulation. I think many "sellers" on the site are run by the same company, so there many be 100 sellers of a certain item, but when you trace it the orders are filled by 4-5 companies.

What makes the whole shopping experience worse is how each listing has mulitple options and price displayed on the initial search always shows the lowest priced product. If I search scooter tyre, for example, I get hundreds of listings and price shown is actually for the inner tube, which is obviously a lot cheaper than a tyre, so it's near impossible to compare the product you actually want to buy by price.

This is probably the most annoying thing about the platform.

What I'm doing now it's just opening a dozen or so tabs and adding the three cheapest incase one of them isn't eligible for cash rewards.

P.S I'm starting to use eBay as some items are %10-%15 cheaper. AliExpress has definitely become more expensive in the last 18 months and I'm not talking about postage charges

One thing I do like with AliExpress is the dispute process. I've always had positive outcomes. With hundreds of orders per year maybe I get better treatment, with maybe 5% of my orders going to dispute.

        • Yeah I stopped buying from aliexpress because it was so hard to find the cheapest price for what you want. If you sort everything by price the cheapest item if often on page 3 or 4. But also ebay has done this as well. You no long see the price range just the lowest price.

          • +2

@toobzy: If you sort by orders, that tends to filter out the crap so then you can choose to pick the cheapest amongst what's actually worth buying

      • +1

and they don't let you sort by price.

        ?

You can click on the up and down arrow next to "Price"

        • Yeah but it does not include the cost of postage in that. So someone selling an item for 50 cents but shipping of $45 will lost way before someone selling for $25 with $5 postage, even though the second is cheaper.

          • @ShipShapeRC: Ah yeah I've found that annoying.

            • @CVonC: In addition to what shipshape said above, you can't sort by price. I don't know if it shows up when you're on mobile browser, but on desktop if you choose 'sort by price' a little box pops up that says something like 'sorting by price as determined by algorithm'

Basically, Aliexpress price sort = Ebays 'Best Match' sort

              Its not really true.

Avoid Aliexpress. My credit card got stolen last time.

    • +8

Strange, Ali has always been reliable for me. I've been using it for years at this point.

      • +8

        Why not just use PayPal?

    • +2

Mine recently got stolen too, but I can't say for sure if it was aliexpress or not

    • +4

      Using Paypal?

    • If Ali is the only place that you use your credit card and it is stollen, then there is a clear correlation. Otherwise, you use it on eBay, Amazon, unknown websites, then the correlation is not obvious.

    • +1

lmao what? I've purchased ~50 items and not a single issue

    • +3

4 years on ali, no stolen CC yet

    • +1

I've made 867 orders with them, no issue with my card details walking.

  • Thanks OP!

  • Damn just spent $200 yesterday :(

    • Might not work, but if you bought your things from one seller you could try messaging them and asking for a partial refund back? Might take a few days for a response, but it may be worth the time and trouble

      • They seller won't refund anything. It's AliExpress absorbing the coupon.

  • is coupon expired?

  • +1

7ADMITAD3 doesnt seem to work anymore?

  • when do the codes expire?

  • +1

Only the $6 off $70 is valid now.
