  • Damn, stock changed to July 31, which is kinda OK i guess

  • whts the advantage over Phone voice recorder?

      you'll look like a professional

Ultimately it provides an uninterrupted, dependable recording function especially over a long period of time. A voice recorder is pretty much guaranteed to record a whole days conference/lectures without the worry of the app freezing up, battery life, notification interruptions, noise of you tapping the phone typing msgs etc. Frees your phone for other uses. Microphone positioning on higher end models captures better audio quality.

or just use a free app lol

In case no one knew, these are great for bugging a room. Duct taped to the underside of furniture, hidden in a folder, etc. No notifications or other alerts to give it away or compromise the recording. And the microphones are superior to those in your phone for sounds coming from multiple angles.

    • Sounds like being a spy / agent

    • and not emitting RF too, beats RF scanners :)

  • I have a few older Sony Digital Voice Recorders. None work with modern devices as Sony used a proprietary USB driver and discontinued updates. Now pretty paperweights.

    • just checked manual for UX570, it says it'll show as mass storage device… Am I missing something?

      • +1

I think sceptical is talking about the older voice recorder models not working; they weren't talking about the UX570 in the post.

        • Yes, IC series from memory. Beautiful device, excellent audio and controls.

          • @sceptical: this is IC too … ICD-UX570

            • @nuker: If it uses a generic driver it won't have the same early obsolescence.

              • +1

@sceptical: This one's ticket to early obsolesence (like so many gadgets nowadays) is the non-replaceable (for most people) lithium battery.

By contrast, can fish my 10 year old Tascam or 20 year old Sanyo out of the back of the drawer, pop in some fresh AAAs and they'll be good as new.

                • @Jabba the Hutt: Just so! I used my old Tascam recently. Batteries in, up and running :-)

                • @Jabba the Hutt: yep, lipo battery is a drawback. But im pretty confident I could open the unit and find the replacement pack on aliexpress. And LiPo means the body is way smaller than ones with 2x AAA

  • How can I use this with my Fuji X-E3?

  • @twoperspectives Nihow. You can look for an external, hot shoe mounted mic

  • Got it, very nice very tiny unit. Def beats those AA powered in size/weight.
