FWIW heard a conspiracy theory around this issue.
Apparently inflation has risen significantly, but they can't increase the price of these super hot consoles otherwise it might cause a market panic.

Thought the water shortage in Taiwan was the issue. Not enough water to cool the fabrication equipment.

I'd go for eb games, what they did 2020 November release was fair, however their servers were overloaded, they were the first to allow people to get orders in with spam filters, (couldn't overstate how terrible Nvidia was obtaining anything giving the vendors imaginary lottery draws to non existent supplies to build advertising, absolutely abysmal)but I can say if you are lucky enough to search EB games, and you order it, they will honour it.
Daughter pre ordered hers from Eb games and got it feb this year and son isn't in a hurry to grab one at the moment

I was not in the market for PS5 until the new God of War is out, but all this chit chat compel me to try and get one :(
Amazon usually comes out with stock every week, if you follow the updates on twitter you should be able to get one

ha, not likely. Every one of these drops sells out within a few seconds - literally.
There is no way these are not being nabbed by bots and then instantly scalped.
thats how i got mine but might've changed now
there was an alert at 6am the other day and it was sold in seconds. not even a primary time for people to be awake.
I've been on my phone when the alerts come in and click the link in <5 seconds and they're gone. so that makes me think they're taken by bots now.
Amazon just had a drop for the disc version today.
Was lucky to get one as I was on thr ps5 page atm, rumour has it they might drop the digital version today or Monday.

I didn't have much luck waiting for an alert, so what I did was if they announced that target may have a drop this week (inside info). I would monitor amazon, big w, Harvey Norman, eb games for the rest of the week and vice versa.
That's how I ended up buying on amazon, when everyone was focused on target. Also amazon wish list alerts don't work, you need to actually go and check the site manually.
Tried my local EB, and no orders being taken for anything except the PS5 Digital, and the Series S.
Really want to make an order for the PS5 Disc or the Series X.EB is currently taking online pre-orders for the Xbox Series X for October 15th release $200 deposit

They sold out 2000 PS5s in 5 minutes. This thing will be sold out until 2022.

I read an article today saying Sony has secured enough chips to meet export demand on consoles. Looks like the scalpers are going to get screwed as there will be plenty of stock and may even be discounts soon as Sony already exceeded their profit margin target.

Even with the increased production, don't expect to see an end to stock shortages any time soon.
According to the second article:
"The console remains hard to find nine months after its launch last November, with each new batch of systems selling out almost instantly.
While it is unlikely that Sony’s news will change this in the short term, the hope is that by securing these semiconductors it will eventually be able to produce enough supply to meet demand."

PS5 market in NZ is odd, the digital edition sells out quick($70 cheaper than Disc) and Disc can often take a few hours to sellout online when drops happen but drops are every few weeks at most and in reasonable volume.

PS5 was released last year but the global shortage remains as bad as ever. I am after advice about how I can buy it in NSW within reasonable price and ideally from official sellers.
My son wants it for his birthday and despite my best efforts I can not find from official sellers. Even if there is a restocking, it disappears within a minute or so. I am not sure if it is safe to buy from some random person on Facebook Marketplace etc. e.g. in terms of warranty issues?

Believe it or not, try some gaming stores in Tamworth where mate lives.
See if you can put your name down at a few shops. My brother put his name down at JB and got a call within 2 weeks.

Sit down kids, grandpa's going to tell you a story. Back in my day, we had a shortage of PlayStation 5s. No no, not just any old shortage, it was a severe shortage. People had to use PlayStation 4s! Can you imagine it kids! They were forced to use previous gen consoles, the horror! Truly terrible times they were.

It looks like you have already tried your best and even know that it only takes less than a minute for it to go OOS when retailers restock which means you are following stock alert twitter accounts. You just gotta keep trying at landing a drop and keep calling the shops. The reality is that your son is likely not gonna get a PS5 for his birthday and would learn that you wont get everything you want in life. Probably this is a good time to learn this lesson.

If he does not understand he is too young to even have a PS5Have you tried JB hifi stores? I Just went in a couple of weeks ago and my local in Adelaide had 9 disc versions sitting out the back.
They can tell you which other stores have stock.The Bandwagon Effect is strong.
My recommendation is to try your luck and ring your local stores.
After trying for months and missing every online drop, including Amazon yesterday out of frustration I rang a local JB Hi Fi (in Newcastle) yesterday at about 4:30pm and asked to be put on a waitlist if they had one.
Her response on the phone was "We have a few disc models in stock. We can hold one if you can make it here before 5pm". Needless to say I was walking to the car before I'd even hung up the phone.
So if you haven't already give JB, EB and Harvey Norman a call and ask about their wait lists. Not sure whether Big W and Target have wait lists but worth a call just in case.

Worth calling up GG as they seem to be taking orders now. I was just able to pre order and pay for a Standard edition PlayStation 5. The lady said they are getting a very small selection shortly.

Check local TGG, they just had a bumper release of stock. BigW has a stock drop yesterday too. Likely all gone by now though.

When was the last time Amazon had Xbox Series X?
Hi guys - I was successful getting an Xbox Series X going via EB Games. I went to the store in person about 4-5 weeks ago, spoke to them, they took down my name and mobile and indicated they'd get in touch when they were having stock available. 2 weeks later, they did exactly what they said - called me, told me to come down immediately. I did, and put down my $200 deposit - that was 3 weeks ago. They called me last week and said my device had arrived, and collected it that day and paid the difference. They were excellent and did exactly what they said they'd do. JB have been a very different story - went to about 5 stores, some took down my details, others didn't and NONE of them have called me. Anyway hope this is helpful but EB have been fantastic and did precisely what they promised.
Surely Sony and MS have these factories working on overtime to meet demand for their new consoles? :'(

It wouldn't bother me so much that it will take a long time to get a PS5, if we were still able to play the games on the PS4 like Gran Turismo 7. I don't see the sense in making a game like the new Final Fantasy PS5 exclusive, if almost no one can get a console to play the damn thing. I am hoping that they make it PS4 available too, along with any of the games they can (God of War 2 etc).

How often does Microsoft have the Series X in stock? Wasn't planning on buying one, but with the AMEX offer of spend $500+ at Microsoft get $100 back. Might as well use that offer to bring down the price.
