8gb ram just won't cut it in 2021
Heck, some mid range mobile phones come with 8gbs

    • +1

What is it with $1000+ devices with 8GB of RAM.…

    • +2

Why won't 8GB of RAM "cut it" these days?

      • Not everyone likes living on the edge

      • Multi-tasking

      • With my workload, no.

        It's a 6C/12T processor gimped by 8GB of memory.

If I run one low end VM, couple of PDFs, browser and office apps and it will choke.

      My S21 Ultra has 12Gb

      • So does my blackshark 3 pro

      • +1

But I guess S21 Ultra is more expensive than this laptop?? And you have a smaller screen than this right?

        • +1

Haha … yes .. but the height of the keys is similar between this laptop and my S21 Ultra.

Depends what you do with it.

Typical maximum memory usage in day to day operations on my desktop is only 6.9Gb. The usual, email (Outlook), office productivity (Excel, Word), MYOB, chrome with multiple tabs, few other bits and bobs such as Teams, Norton, 3CX, Google Drive.

Sure I can push it with video editing and things such as that. I can certainly MAKE it us more than 8Gb but in general use 8Gb is actually plenty. (for now - don't know what Windows 11 will do).

4Gb is tight. I have a 2012 Zenbook (That still works!!!), which performs excellent but can see a bit sluggishness when using all my day to day things at once.

8Gb is fine for the vast majority of people (for now).

I always see the "8Gb is no good" comment on every notebook that is advertised here on OzBargain. Rubbish - it's fine unless you're a gamer or power user.

16Gb is of course more desirable - no argument there at all but it's simply not true that 8Gb is no good.

  • ", USB-A to gigabit ethernet adapter and USB-C to audio jack adapter are included"

Leaving one USB C port available for use if you want basic wired connectivity.

    • Yeah docks are the go nowadays. You see them here everywhere from $30-$60 or so.

It's almost become an essential purchase.

Just make sure if the notebook supports USB-C PD charging you get a dock that supports PD pass through of the correct wattage.

If the notebook does NOT charge via USB-C grab a small 18W or so USB-C PD charger for the dock so you can power all ports at once. If you do not I find the docks generally fail if you plug in multiple portable hard drives for example.

  • I mean if you're going to get this then might as well get the identical 14" version for $140 less

The 13.3" has the OLED screen.

      • Just depends if you want standard IPS lcd screen or a higher quality OLED, which cost a premium. For example look at pricing difference of OLED TV's vs traditional LCD.

  • What is the different between Zen and Vivo book range in Asus?
    Thank you

    • Vivobook is mainstream, whist Zenbook is premium range. You can already tell by looking at the specifications, such as an OLED screen in the Zenbook.

      • Thanks. The keypad looks cool. Sad about the RAM
