Sunlu 3D Printer Filament Drying Box $61.99 Delivered @ sanha-8705 eBay

150

Was looking around for filament drying solutions and found this drying box - looks like it's been recently discounted and seems to be the best price for local AU stock. Couldn't find a better deal from international seller either.

Enjoy.

i think that one doesnt have a heater. it uses silica gel

  • Does this model have a fan built in?

    • it looks like the model i have and there is no fan. just the metal plate in the bottom warms up. it does a good job.

    • Now it doesn't, I own one.

It's very good for drying out filament such as pla if it's Beebe sitting out for a while

  • Can’t you just 3D print one? Lol

    • Thanks, original listing doesn't post to WA. With this one I was able to use some banggood points and cashback to get it for ~$45

    • Was wondering where GWTR warehouse was… (another China warehouse in case any else was too…)

Thanks, was looking for one of these this morning. The reviews were mixed, but worth a try I thought.

Currently using the cheap Aldi dehydrator with the trays cut to allow the spool to fit, what would I missing out on? Are these boxes better for the filament? Cheers

    • +2

The only main difference would be this can be used as a spool holder so you can print directly from it.

    • +1

That's a great idea too. Yeah seems like the only other advantage is that it has a hole for the spool and has a neat design. At the end of the day the purpose is to dehydrate the filament, but you pay a bit of a premium for the design.

  • i bought a food dehydrator… should do the job… and much cheaper too, and can also double purpose it!

  • Anyone made a successful "offer"?

  • I have one roll that's almost finished and keeps snapping when I leave it inbetween prints, would drying it out fix it?

    • That's happened to me a few times too with certain brands. How do you store your filament when you're not using the machine and are you in a humid environment?

    • +1

      Yes it should.

Your filament gets brittle due to moisture in the air.

People make filament dry boxes with silicon beads/ moisture absorbers to reduce this. Heaps of youtube vids on it.

Normal moisture levels are around 50-70%, and a drybox can reduce it to 15-20%. This will slow down the moisture absorption in filament.

The alternative is to buy a dehydrator like this.

I set the temperature at 55 degrees and leave it in for 4-6 hours, after that my PLA filament is good like day one.

  • Ummm….item in NSW but excludes postage to pretty much every place in Australia (and on earth)

  • It's good for keeping PETG away from moisture when printing but I wouldn't count on it to dry the filament. Dehydrator is heaps better for that.

  • Hmm, this or the eSun eBox? Trying to find some good info and this is all I've found so far, seems without a fan the sunlu wouldn't be great?

I have both so I'll give you a brief rundown on what I think are the biggest differences.

Temperature - the eSun only goes to 50°C while the Sunlu goes to 55°

Heating Element - the eSun has a heating plate with a installed 40mm fan in it. This brings up the aspect of noise. The eSun dryer heating element is very loud when it turns on and off. It's so loud it will make you look over at your printer and think you just broke a piece of your print off. If you sleep in the same room, it's prolly going to annoy you… The Sunlu is completely quiet and doesn't require a fan.

Size - the Sunlu is much bigger and allows room for any brand of spool, even bigger than 1 kg. The eSun is rather small and sits pretty tight with not much play room.

Feeding while printing - Sunlu has 2 "ports" to feed out of, while the eSun only has 1. Seems insignificant, but really handy depending on your setup.

Ability to Weigh - Ok, this does come handy, but honestly it's nothing you can't do with a regular scale.

Overall - Sunlu for the win.

  • I have this double one on order - dearer as an item but cheaper than two of these if you have need for multiple rolls

    • I have one on order too.. will see how it compares to my DIY boxes.

  • Thanks OP. On a somewhat related note, where are ozb-ners buying their filament from? Amazon? Local stores? Looking to replenish a few reels and it's been awhile since I've bought filament.
