I've been searching for a safe child seat for my tall toddler. The Safety 1st Solo has good safety ratings and is narrower than many so will fit most vehicles. It is suitable for 1-8 year olds. Typically $190-$200 but price has been dropping this week on 3xCamel, and as it's over $39 delivery is free.

The Safety 1st Apex AP is also dropping in price at $113.10 currently.

As these are in the baby category on Amazon I believe CR and SB is 0%. Won't hurt to try if buying

  • Not a harnessed booster

Don't understand what you are saying. The Solo is harassed. The Apex is not. Also discounted.

      Apex AP

      • A harnessed booster is one that allows you to use the internal harness till they are 8.

This one uses the internal harness till 4, and then you use the cars built in lap/sash belt from 4-8. These are known as convertible boosters

        • Thanks for clearing that up

Bought it at $128 in last deal:
1.ok for booster mode but not quite comfortable in harness mode.
Because seat belt is directly passing via back of seat fiber without behind any firm materials, like plastic as my another Convertible Booster seat. So after seat belt fasten, kids is not seating evenly because half of the back is seat belt. The issue would be resolved after removing harness in booster mode.
2.a short anchor strip, you may need an extension Strip around $20 if anchor point is at bottom of car seat.

Other than above, no other issues so far. It's compact size and making possible for 3 child seats in 2nd rows in full size cars

  • THanks! Very helpful.

  • Perfect thanks for the tip. For our first son we went straight from 0-4 to a 4-8 and for our second we wanted something that was a better transition from the baby seat without compromising on the harness for a couple more years. So we can do that with this and keep him in until 8 without compromising on safety or making the transition seat only a very short term thing.

    • That was my thinking too. My son loves the harness of his current seat. I wanted one that he can be comfortable with to transition to using a seat belt safely so convertible is good.

This model wasn't tested against 2018 or 2021 standards, but as a booster it got a 4.8/5 in 2013 standards which makes it about as good as it gets for a convertible booster. Certainly for the money IMO.

Safety 1st is owned by Mothers Choice. If I could find a better deal the only seat I would prefer is the Mothers Choice Kin AP (branded Prime AP at Baby Bunting). It's $299 RRP but lowest is $197 I could find. Cheapest ever was $167 on a sale. The air headrest is a good feature for long trips and sleep but both recline the same amount. For 40% less the Solo seems like a winner.

The Infasecure CS7113 branded as Rally II/Odessey II/Rover/Lantra/Racing Kid II/Groove/Wiggles depending on store scores well too but is very wide at the headrest. Also doesn't give much neck padding from what I can see so not good for road tips. Have seen it near this price before.

Great booster seat, had it for my son for over a year now, still using the harness, he finds it comfortable and feels secure.

  • Damn, back to $189. This would have been perfect for my 4yo.

  • I bought the old Prime AP for about $100. Works well with harness….normally I wait for the baby bunting ebay sale….
