Good price, a warning though: There is a lack of supply for this unit at the moment, partly due to the 2(?) week shutdown for Chinese new year and an apparent manufacturing fault last week at the ainol factory which has stalled production. There is a strong demand for this unit apparently (domestically and internationally). I have one of these on order at pandawill and they, along with other retailers like chinagrabber, merrimobiles and gadgetfreak are reporting they can't get more stock until the 20th and they also have a backlog of orders. I'm not expecting to see delivery of my device for another 3-4 weeks. Don't expect fast delivery!

  • +1

excellent this is what i call bang for buck tablet, impossible to beat performance/price wise

  • +1

If this had built in 3G I would have been all over this. The Optus MyTab is just too slow for me now (but it has built in 3G).

Still, it's good bang for buck for sure.

The name is a bit of a worry. I can't imagine saying to someone 'I'm after a 7 inch Ainol?'

    • +3

'The one with the "AllWinner Many Core" processor.'

    • +3

Yeah name is very worrying, "I love my Ipad" no 'I LOVE MY AINOL!"

    • You like Ainol tablets? Probably because they are cheaper and better than most regular tablets.

      • Tablet of the suppositories kind or electronic kind? I think I prefer the latter.

        • "What's that you're playing with"? "It's my 7 inch Ainol - here, let me show you". "Uh, no, that's okay… thanks though".

Sorry, but that's just not a conversation I'd ever want to have.

No 3g or GPS kills it.

I used to think the same, then when WiFi Hotspot became an option on my HTC, it became irrelevant, as I always have my phone on me

      • Exactly, most phones data plans are massive these days as well

        • Except that some of us don't have Android phones or large mobile data plans.

I still use a Nokia E63 and up till 4 months ago, I didn't even have mobile internet on it. If I made the change to an Android phone, I reckon I wouldn't need a tablet at that point.

        • Considering you can make hotspots on iphone, android and nokia phones (http://store.ovi.com/content/7499) This should not be an issue at all!

I think this one might not have a tilt sensor, is that right?

  • Is this a single core CPU?

    • +1

Yes, my understanding is that despite the slightly deceptive name the 'Allwinner A10 many core' is a single core Cortex A8.

      • +1

Many core simply means it has a CPU core and a GPU core.

  • -1

    Two things:

First thing, be aware of the 'Many Core A10', there's no 'A10' from ARM at all, only CorTex-A8,CorTex-A9, CorTex-A15.
This doggy Chinese chip maker "Allwinner Technology" use the CorTex-A8, made a little modification, and mark the whole chip solution
as 'A10', to purposely confuse people think that it is newer/better processor than CorTex-A8/A9. This chip is
just a single core CorTex-A8. Many core just means it doesn't forget to put a GPU in.

They keep advertising it as A10, but won't say CorTex-A10 at all. (some seller might don't aware of it and have put CorTex A10 ).

2nd, I've personally tried this Novo7 IPS version for three days.
    IPS screen is good.
Android 4.0 ICS on this is very buggy and slow. It let me believe ICS needs dual core, or you'd better just run gingerbread on this if that is available. The battery is too short, 3700mah and it's not low power DDR RAM.

    • +1

Not true. ICS foes not require an implementation of dual core. I have it running on my original single core galaxy tab and it is smooth.

The culprit here is the horrible implementation of ICS. It can be fixed by ainol but whether or not it will be fixed is another matter altogether.

      • +1

        you're smart

      • -1

I have the original Galaxy tab too. Do you have a link to the ICS ROM you used please?

        • I'm sorry. The ICS rom I am using is still highly experimental. If I provided the link, I would just be contributing to the mass of spam such as "Y U NO WORK?"

    • Apple kept on pushing their SoC as A4, A5 and upcoming A6, and I don't see anyone confuses them as Cortex-A5.

A Cortex-A8 at 1.2GHz is actually not bad for a cheap Chinese made tablet, and would be able to play quite a few games I believe bundled with Mali-400 as GPU.

better to buy the kindle fire dual core $199 and roxt it

  • Can anyone else confirm if this device is buggy and slow?

  • IMPORTANT NOTE: There is NO free delivery on this unit. After you add it to your shopping cart and enter address, the cheapest postage to Australia costs US$ 19.52. So the total price will come to about A$168.
The title needs to be changed to reflect this.
Also this price is for 8Gb tablet. 16Gb costs extra $20

  • Ainol Novo 7 Aurora is a great Chinese android tablet.
