Critic and user reviews seem to differ a lot. But then again, epic games store has no reviews page hahahaha

    • +3

It's a decent enough more modern return to the Myst style games (I mean, Cyan did make it after all), but expect lots of walking and a bunch of long obnoxious loading screens towards the end, even if you have a beefy computer/ssd.

I miss the days of accidentally clicking back and having to swap CDs. That was fun.

        • +1

Myst was one of the first CDROM games and the technical marvel at the time was that it all fit on a single CD rather than having to swap floppy disks. Are you sure your thinking of Myst?

          • +1

@sk3iron: Most likely either Riven or Exile, clocking in at five & four discs apiece.

And swapping discs in those games would still be faster than Obduction's load times, they're that bad.

          • +1

@sk3iron: Yeah I was thinking of Riven: Sequel to Myst. Don't think I ever played Myst.

Loved this game! Eerie and infuriating at times, exploring multiple dimensions was fun enough by itself.

Is there a way I can set reminder on OZB site to remind me after 8 days?

    • +8

Yes, underneath the deal (and just above the Related Deals heading), there is a "Reminder" button. Click that and you can set a reminder.

Personally, I find the reminders on here easy to miss so I put a recurring alarm on my phone to remind me to check each Friday arvo.

      • Thanks! I can put it on the phone, its just that there are so many deals posted here that dont start on the same day as posted, my phone will be filled with alarms. This method is easier. And I dont add all the free games to my EPIC store, just those I think I might play. Once you add them, you cannot delete them and the library will start looking like a spam folder - though I know many here are OK with that ;)

          Free is free my man

        • +1

          You're welcome :)

I don't understand how adding a single recurring alarm on your phone will make things trickier for you.

          My process is this:
          1) Check the Ozbargain post to see if I'd like the game or not.
          2) Come Friday evening, the alarm will sound. If I liked the game, then I go on Epic. If I don't, then I dismiss the alarm.
          3) Repeat process the following week.

Every Friday, there's a new game guaranteed. So it's only one alarm once a week. No hassle.

          • @Sploots: Oh no, I was not just speaking about the games. Its about those other non-gaming posts that say in 2 days etc. For example, ebay sale in 2 days and so on. I don't want to setup alarms for all those things.

I really wanted to like this game, but the utter lack of direction (similar to the Witness's issues I had) makes trying to progress very exhausting along with the long loading times.

Still worth a crack at $0 to see for yourself - I'll give it another go!

    • I don't like open world games cause they lack direction but I'm quite enjoying this as I find it super direct on what I have to do next, the puzzle is just working out how to do it.

Out of idle curiosity, I just went into the Epic launcher and looked through the games in my library. I have 161 games in there so far, for which I paid a combined total of $0. Ridiculous.

And some people actually think Game Pass is the best deal in gaming! :D

    • I was late to the Epic party. Only 80 in my list.

Total number played through Epic = 1.

  • On mobile so can't check: have these been free before? I got excited by the addition of offworld trading company, but have a sneaking suspicion it's already in my gaming pile of shame

    • It's been given away before so probably. They finally added the DLCs to epic though.

Offworld must have been, went to add but was already in my library.

      • Same here haha…

Love Offworld Trading Company. It's like an RTS but with only economic victory conditions.

  • Offworld is a great game! Very challenging too!

  • +3

Nice but realised I already had both games.

Obduction was a free giveaway on GOG in late May 2019 and Offworld Trading Company was a previous free on Epic Games giveaway late February 2020

Yeah this week hasn't been too good.

  • Adding Obduction :)
Another game i may not play…

  • Just what the NBN wanted while Sydney and Melbourne in lockdown free games to further pump up that data usage. Would be interesting to know how much extra data is being used in during this combined lockdown period

  • Eh, the games don't look that interesting to me, I will probably never play them.

    Added to my library. Thanks!

  • Cheers!
