  • I just use my Nutribullet.

      To make coffee dust?

      • To make instant coffee…

  • The reviews are pretty average.. might as well put it towards a cheap electric grinder

Not for grinding coffee if you want decent results.

This isn't just a snobbery thing either, the grinder is at least as important, if not more important than the coffee machine. Most coffee people will tell you to spend half your budget on the grinder if you're after a new setup.

      • Maybe not half. Good machine = 2k, good grinder = 1k.

          machine = 2k, good grinder = 1k.

          LOL

@jv: I know right. There really is no need to spend $2k on a coffee machine. You'll pretty much as good a shot from the Breville Bambino Plus ($361 from The Good Guys Commercial) as you will from an Oracle (once you get the non-pressurised basket).

I have the Breville Smart Grinder Pro and it seems to be pretty damn good for the price (sometimes sub $200). But it's definitely the area where I'm thinking of spending more money.

@C0mbat: Nah, I prefer the Oracle or Dual Boiler as it maintains the extraction temperature at what I set it to. The Bambino and other thermoblocks just drop in temperature towards the end of a long extraction. Also, 58mm basket is much better than 54mm because I can use VST baskets in it.

            • @C0mbat: The Smart Grinder is not bad for the price yeah. When we lived in the UK, we have the same model branded as Sage by Heston Blumenthal.

After upgrading we kept the Breville as a coarse grind for pour overs/filter coffee and still gets regular use.

I disagree (edit: with garglebutt). Breville dual boiler can be had for under $1k and you really don't get anything better for your money until you get into the e61 pid controlled dual boilers which start at about $4k.

Imo the Breville dual boiler and Niche grinder is the sweet spot sub $5k without going second hand

    • Cheap electric grinder uses blade. This has ceramic burr instead, which gives you better result

This would be an insult to the coffee you buy, but elite as a salt or pepper grinder.

  • I have 1 of these and i grind coffee as needed and to be honest i found coffee beans stay fresh alot longer than already grounded coffee that i previously baught in packs. As for the coffee grinder itself, i'm happy with it although i can't compare it to any other because it's my first coffee grinder.

Edit: oh and it has ceramic burr, no blades. Yeah, don't buy a grinder with blades to grind coffee and if you do, you deserve to be locked up.

  • Will this grind fine enough to produce a good shot of espresso using an unpressurised basket?

    • I'd not expect it to grind fine enough consistently (I don't own one, but checking the amazon reviews and photos).
