  • same price on catchoftheday.com if you want to add that too

    • +2

Have to pay shipping though unless your a club catch member

      • thats true! i forgot as i has temporarily signed up

  • Do these have Bluetooth connectivity

    • +6

Don't think so, I think it normally has "BT" at the end of the numbers if it has bluetooth

    • You could always buy an adaptor like this one to save some money. I haven't used the adaptor before, but heard they do the job.

    • +7

If you have a raspberry pi, you can bluetooth enable it with airplay and spotify connect https://github.com/balenalabs/balena-sound

      • Wow this is cool, I'm going to give it a try!

        thanks

  • 2 different prices same speaker both sold by Amazon AU

I'm guessing Amazon stuffed up the photos in your link, as the listing says 'black' whereas the OP's link says 'brown'.

  • Can you hook these up to a tv without an amp?

    • If your TV has analog audio output like a headphone jack or RCA audio out, then yes.
These speakers have a built-in amp.

    • Yes, these are active speakers

    • Would these be an upgrade for most TV's?
I just grabbed the hisense 70S5 deal and I've read that inbuilt sound on TV's these days is a joke.

      • +2

literally any speaker would be an upgrade to the tv speakers

      • Ideally you'd want something with a centre channel for a TV, otherwise listening to dialogue is going to suck.

  • What's the bass like on these?

    • I just receive the BT version from previous deal last night. hooked to the TV and bass is OK (movies and spotify) for the size (assuming you are not audiophile).

      • link for the BT version?

    • +1

What's the bass like on these?

The speaker has a published frequency response of 75Hz - 18kHz. To give you an idea, human ears could detect frequencies as low as 20Hz (the lower the Hz in the spectrum, the "more powerful" the bass is expected to be).

At the risk of disappointing you, it looks to me like this speaker was designed not to deal with any serious bass effects at all. That is not surprising at the price it's being sold.

A dedicated subwoofer does the job of handling bass in a typical home theatre, because it is a seriously difficult job and you wouldn't want even your powerful home theatre receiver to be powering that job. For example, this would be considered a serious subwoofer even by the self-proclaimed audiophile snobs: https://www.rio.com.au/product/v-12-home-cinema-powered-subw… and it has a frequency response of 20Hz to 200Hz to give you an idea, and that will shake your room no doubt. But you realise what's going on when you note the price on that thing.

So enjoy these speakers in the context of them being cheap stereo speakers on a bargain price.

    "‎1 Lithium ion batteries required."

What is the battery for? Remote control?

    And then this

    "Batteries Included ‎No
    Batteries Required ‎Yes"

So one speaker has battery and the other don't ?

    • yeah, doesn't make sense.

  • This set of speakers might compliment nicely for those who recently picked up a $19 Amazon Echo Dot (3rd gen) on Prime Day by connecting it with a 3.5MM-RCA cable.

    • +1

thought the 3.5mm was for input until I saw a comment "why would I connect a speaker to another speaker"

    • +1

I have 2 Echo Dots (The 2nd one I bought was the 3rd Gen for $19) and you can group your Dots so in my case I can have the same music play throughout the house. Being able to use the 3.5mm to use external speakers like my old school Cambridge Soundworks 2.1 system is a major plus.

    • *complement

      • Thank you for correcting my incorrect use of "compliment" vs "complement".

        • Thank you for complimenting my complementary comment. 🙏

Glad I got the BT version of these on Prime Day for $4 more. Absolute bargain.

  • +1

    This .

if anyone is thinking about this don't do it, spend more, get BT and better sound quality, these are future landfill.

    • future landfill.

I look at it as “buy on gumtree/FB marketplace for $10 later on”

  • wanted to buy it but it seems not very convenient having the volume control at the back without remote control…

    • You use the volume control of whatever you're plugging it into.

The knob at the back let's you match the volumes, so when you turn the speakers on, they aren't way too loud or way too soft, compared to what you're plugging it into.

Mine just arrived, for 50 bucks they are pretty good!

  • Great speakers - quite a massive improvement over my existing in built monitor speakers

  • good enough for me, especially at $50. To me, this sounds better than any other portable BT speakers under $200 I had.

  • How do these compare to R1280DBs?
