    Good price

Do note, that this kit doesn't come with any tools (specific to lock instal) that are required to install it. I ended up paying for a professional install as cost of the tools required were over $70. I bought it because I wanted a lock without a key/barrel and this was the only one that I could find locally.

    Good things:
Ability to unlock the door as your approach (works like a charm on iphone and a bit of hit and miss with android)
    Ability to unlock remotely
Ability to check who opened the door (logs)
    Ability to run IFTTT routines
Integrates well with google and alexa (didnt set up apple so dont know) to lock, unlock and check the status.
Ability to restrict access to certain tags for specified time (e.g. cleaners etc)
Had it working for over 4 months and didn't have to replace batteries
Additional tags are not that expensive.

    Bad Things:
Connection to the app is super patchy on the android but seems ok on iOS.
Bridge loses connection to wifi easily (though it fixes the issue itself mostly)
Bridge is almost always shows an error (through blinking lights, there are so many of them in troubleshooting to remember what is for what)
Sending logs to dev team doesnt result anything same with review on app store.

      How much was the install?

    • I already have the tools, so it should work out (Irwin Dock lock install kit).
For me it is a matter of replacing a Kevo 2nd gen, which has been annoying the wife for a while. It originally replaced a Gainsborough Trilock, and I never really had the time to do a proper sand/paintjob over the 2nd hole. So in a way now, Ill be rectifying that paintjob problem at the same time :D

Also, the fact this has a latch bolt instead of a straight dead bolt is going to fix a lot of the issues we have had with the door staying closed.

      • good point, why would people want deadbolts then?

  • Does it work with HomeKit?

  • Is it suitable for fire doors in apartment? (I read about standards it supports, but still not clear)

  • Is this 5 times better than the lockwood lock that was sold for a hundo a couple of months ago?

    • Depends if you like using Bluetooth to open the door as you walk up to it instead of having to punch a pin in.

This is the also the only one reasonable one I could find with a latch bolt. Pull the door closed and have it stay closed without needing to engage the “lock”. Other purely deadbolt smart locks need you to retain the passage set with the latch, and then install the deadbolt, so you end up with two locks. Or like I did and just used the smart deadbolt and had to get creative with keeping the door closed if say someone visiting left.

      • why do you need to be creative to lock the deadbolt?

        • Locking it was fine. As I said, having the door stay closed was another matter.

The issue for me was that I replaced an entry set with an electric lock. So unless you engage the bolt, there was no latch sticking into a strike plate to keep the door closed. If a visitor left, all they could do was close the door and I would have to remotely engage the deadbolt while they held it shut so it didn’t swing open in the breeze. My fault for not thinking it through. But back to my point, if I had a regular lockable entrance set, and then added an electric deadlock to it, it was kinda pointless as someone could have accidentally locked the normal door lock, rending the electric lock pointless and keeping you from entering the house, unless you had the key for the normal lock as well. Which then renders having an electric lock you can unlock with your phone pointless.

So yeah, because this one will stay closed when you close the door, it’s better. Have to still lock it after the fact but a stiff breeze won’t open it before the auto-lock deadbolt has a chance to kick in.

          • @EvilOverLord: Hm, I used kwickset and schlage deadbolts a couple of years ago and they both closed the door automatically in about 5 seconds after it was shut. So a bit surprised that other locks are working differently.

            • @jellical: It’s 30 seconds.

I guess if you had like a magnet and a sensor kind of setup (similar to this Yale lock) it might be able to detect being closed and fire off the bolt. But in the case of the Kwikset Kevo Gen 2 I currently have, yeah 30 seconds. So lots of free time for the door to swing open unless another process is holding it there.

      • Pretty sure you cna use your phone to unlock the lockwood one, not sure why it would matter using bluetooth/wifi/whatever

        • I looked up that model, it appears to only have a keypad to unlock. It connects to a ZigBee network, but that would be WiFi and not as reliable as having a Bluetooth connection that is not dependent on your internet being up.

          • @EvilOverLord: So you mens you can unlock the lock via Bluetooth without using the hub provided? I presume the connect hub is a yales own zigbee hub? (only because thry are the same company as Lockwood)

            • +1

@Jackson: Probably similar tech. The point of the connect hub is so it connects to your WiFi and you can unlock remotely via phone etc.

As a stand-alone lock, without the hub component, it is a Bluetooth connectable device you can walk up to with your phone and have the door unlock. The hub in this package is just an optional add-on. Like the keypad you can also buy.

Personally, I wasn’t interested in the WiFi hub as I don’t see a need to open the door unless I am there, but this is the deal that was available and it’s a really good price so 🤷🏼‍♂️

  • This is the only lock I could find that was both Keyless (no mechanical key override) and provides dead latch (secure mode) cannot be opened from the inside when locked in secure mode (it's a little bit of pain to secure lock each time with the app) - Every other one I've seen you can just turn the inside knob to unlock?

    • This could be because it's a fire hazard to be able to lock people in a house, I only say this because all the units I ever lived in were by default able to be opened from the inside at all times (might be just because you can't escape out of a windows from a second floor) . I don't think I have once deliberately tried to lock a door from the inside, and in my entire life I have never been broken in to so it hasn't matter yet. Some places I lived didn't have an option to open from inside without a key, but most did.

      • Similar to other deadbolts you have have that allow you to “double lock” them so if you access it from either side you require the key to unlock it.

I have only used them when I have like gone on holidays or such. But still nice to know that if someone does break in a window, they can just exit out the garage door 😂

But for me, the other reason is that my 2.5year old has just gotten to the point where he is going around and opening doors by himself. He would have no problems pulling down a lever and getting out the front door by himself if he decided to and wasn’t being watched eg one parent at home watching/feeding the 1year old.

  • Does anyone know if this is compatible with the ring app. (Unlock the door button when viewing the video)

  • Note that the compatible keypad also on sale @ $79.20 a savings of around $20 according to JBHI.
