I dont see how this is better than the 200 dollar Shure mv7

They are totally different mics. The Shure MV7 is a dynamic microphone while the Yeti's are condenser microphones. Dynamic requires that you have the mic within 12" while the condenser will pick up much more sound in the room. If you are doing voice-over work you want the dynamic, for teams calls you may prefer the condenser so you don't have to have the mic in view.

The Yeti takes things further by adding additional patterns beyond the standard cardioid pattern which can be useful.

I'd argue that folks can do better than a Yeti with a mic like the Samson G Track Pro but credit to Blue for build such brand recognition.

      • Looking at the manual:
        https://pubs.shure.com/guide/MV7/en-US
There is support a "far" setting, where the mic can sit on the desk and be 45 cm from the speaker.
You may have to increase the gain?

Ideal when the sound source is further from the microphone, like in gaming when the person needs to be closer to the screen or gaming console. Aim the microphone directly at the sound source. Place the microphone 6 to 18 inches (15 to 45 cm) away from the sound source. Make additional gain adjustments if necessary.

    • As of now, the Shure MV7 one has already expired, this one hasn't.

micro USB is a real turn off

It is a bit, at least a microphone is not something you unplug and re-plug all the time.

i have the normal yeti, because the micro USB is slotted in on a angle, it becomes very lose over time, and I now have connectivity issue all the time. So I'm not replacing it with another mirco USB yeti

  • Alright. Now all I need is a hot tub and a twitch audience.

    • that's old meta bruh

      • Might resort to licking the mic during 'ASMR' while farting spread-eagled.

I hear it pays insanely well.
