One of the best newspapers in the world. Delivered for $20 a year…usually $235 a year or $4.95 an issue.
Make sure you enter Australia as the country for delivery, and the promo code WA02.

Thanks op, ordered
Possibly a separate deal, but I entered WA01 discount code by accident and it offered me 6 issues for ONLY ONE DOLLAH! saving 95%.
I've already bought at $20/yr, but this may be useful for those globally minded (CEO's, captains of industry, presidential candidates, tyrants, etc.) who can't afford the additional $19 in one hit.
No idea how long these codes will be valid - perhaps the OP can comment?
I've done the maths to compare:
52 weeks for $20 = 38.4c per issue
6 weeks for $1 = 16.7c per issue
Question is: will the $1 6 week subscription renew at that same rate?
I think that $1 deal is similar to that listed from the link on their home page - subscription after the first six issues using that code is $59 per quarter.
Ordered, thanks :)
had issues last night, and today too, but then tried another computer using IE and it was ok.
not sure if that matters but yeh :)
Seems like a few people asking the same questions so this might help, mostly sourced from Wikipedia:
The Guardian Weekly is printed in the United Kingdom, United States and Australia (ie that's probably where their main readership is). Also Ronald Reagan, George H. W. Bush, Bill Clinton were all subscribers when in office and Nelson Mandela while in prison called it his, "window on the wider world." There's also an excellent Guardian Eyewitness iPad app that shows an amazing photo from somewhere in the world each day.
The Guardian Weekly draws on the editorial resources of The Guardian and also contains articles from The Observer and the The Washington Post (which I'm enjoy reading, the online edition is not as restricted as the New York Times) and articles translated from France's Le Monde newspaper.
As for The Guardian, it's readership is generally on the mainstream left of British political opinion: a MORI poll taken between April and June 2000 showed that 80% of Guardian readers were Labour Party voters;[76] according to another MORI poll taken in 2005, 48% of Guardian readers were Labour voters and 34% Liberal Democrat voters. Additionally, The Guardian is not foreign owned unlike say Rupert Murdoch's The Sun.
I believe it's delivered every Friday, when I signed up I got the option to have the first one delivered on Fri 17th Feb, Fri 24th Feb etc. My Sat and Sunday Herald Sun from this previous bargain: http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/51482 expires next weekend so the timing is perfect for me, thanks OP.
thanks! just subscribed
anyone know whether, after the 12 months, the credit card automatically gets hit again and it rolls over? or you have to manually re-subscribe? i suspect the latter.
Got it.
Great deal!
Grabbed it just now :D
Couldn't get it to work with Firefox (clicking the "Continue" button did nothing) so tried Internet Explorer and it went through first time at 1:15 p.m. today (8 Feb). Perhaps I have a Firefox addon installed that was stopping me.
Anyway, fantastic deal - thanks to the OP.
i forgot to put in NSW as the 'county'(state) im assuming. is that ok?
i only have my address as
street
suburb
country
postcode
will it still get delivered? or should i email them?
I left county blank too….postcode is the main thing.
As long as you put the country, postcode and suburb.
Your postcode implies the state anyway.
Awesome deal. I switched to the Android app when I got my tablet, but the paper is more portable and versatile, and for $20 who can complain?
Ordered. Thanks
Great deal. I thought I had initially missed out :(
Hey guys - just a quick note. I had an ultra cheapie subscription like this to a different paper (just 1 month worth). I found that I never actually read any of them. Maybe I opened and glanced flicked through a few pages of every 3rd or 4th delivery.
I simply just continued to read them online at work and on my tablet / phone, so much more convenient.
In the end, I just ended up wasting a whole lot of paper, the environmental cost of having it delivered (extra traffic, smog and noise for those who don't believe in global warming) and I had to empty my bin 3x as often!
So please think twice - just because it's an awesome paper and cheap, doesn't mean it's a good choice.
Don't forget, the online version is $0! Even cheaper!!!
exactly mate. if more people thought like you the world would be a better place.
i hope people are more motivated by the product, not the bargain. otherwise this is a waste of resources 100%
Well what can I say…I love you all. You're pretty much all family now. Kisses and hugs.
With my cheap NatGeo and Guardian subscriptions, I'm set for the year!
Just ordered the 6 issues for $1 using the promo code WA01. If I like the paper enough I'll subscribe to this $20 yearly deal using another family member's name. I am such a cheapskate, aren't I?
And your success is based on the assumption that this coupon will still be active in however many weeks it takes you to receive your first issue to base that decision on…
Do you think this would come in the mail or be thrown? As I live in an apartment complex where a paper dropped on the driveway would be stolen by those people walking to the train past the house.
In the mail.
Where I work has this paper delivered already. It's posted in the mail - flicking through it today I noticed the Australian printing is done by Fairfax.
Signed up successfully with Firefox on OSX, no payment issues.
Good deal, thanks!
Great deal. Thanks for posting.
An amazing deal. I love the Guardian Weekly and this is the perfect excuse to get a subscription - thanks to the O.P.!
Gah! If it wasn't for this dumb site I'd have $20 in my pocket. I hates you all!
Sigh…Another Tasmanian wilderness area off to the Gunns pulp mill : (
Whats wrong with you people!! read it online, you all got computers after all or you wouldn't be on here.
Or read this instead of the rags that pass for newspapers in Australia. It's a weekly and I reckon it's paper well used instead of being wasted on advertising flyers in my mailbox. Also I intend to pass my copy on to friends.
Totally agree. See my post above.
This is a waste of planets precious resources. I'd bet 90%+ of these deliveries will end up in the bin (sure the first few will be read, but over the space of a year).
It's much more convenient reading online.
It's much more convenient reading online.
The thing about paper is that it's much more convenient to read when you're outside, in the backyard, in the sunshine, laying back next to a nice drink.
This being a weekly will make it just perfect for that. Grab it in the morning, read it in the afternoon.
lol….get of your moral high horse
This is the Guardian - from the United Kingdom
…it's not made from the Tasmanian wilderness
There's nothing wrong with me, or the other people here,
we just enjoy reading the paper - on real paper…problem?
Not everyone owns an ipad and my 24 inch monitor makes for really uncomfortable couch reading.
You don't really think that they print it in the UK do you, it would take weeks by ship and too expensive for air freight. Its printed here in Australia and if you don't believe me take a look on wikipedia -The Guardian Weekly is printed in three locations: United Kingdom, United States and Australia. The paper's circulation is 122,828, which is the second-highest of any UK-based global weekly. Sorry if you find my views a bit strong but i've seen the clear felling in Tassie that feed the pulp mills and its a disgrace to destroy pristine wilderness areas for the sake of wood chips.
Fair enough, didn't know it was printed here.
I can understand your views, but at the same time
there's nothing "wrong" with people who enjoy reading newspapers.
I am interested to know whether they actually use tasmanian wilderness to make guardians?
I find reading online papers annoying, they give too much information!
You read the article and then there's related articles, more articles by the same reporter and a barrage of advertising flashing on the screen etc etc…. With a paper you get the facts and maybe ink on your fingers for your trouble.
But I see the 'greenies' perspective also, a modern day quandary. But there's always recycling the paper into things like bog roll, which I'm yet to see if this particular newspaper is worthy of before or after reading it…..
amazing deal. shows you how much the newspaper industry is hurting!
just ordered as a pressie for my missus
Does this auto-renew?
awesome deal..just got one!
Epic deal
This is a great deal OP, thanks!
For anyone else wondering, it still works - my only question if anyone knows, does it auto-renew? I couldn't find inforamtion anywhere on the website about it. Again, thanks OP, looking forward to reading my first copy next week!
Expired!
Yeah :(
I'm actually quite devastated I missed out.
Has anyone had any luck hacking another promo code?
Ozbargained
The $20 has been deducted from my credit card account. Looks like the subscription is a go!
"Sorry, this offer has expired"
Just got my first edition in my mailbox. 17-23 Feb edition. Darn efficient of them :)
Thanks again.
Wooooo first edition arrived today! No worries everyone :D
Ditto in Brisbane.
Ditto Sydney
Melbourne, I got it this morning.
Adelaide - arrive today too.
Perth - got mine today too :) Great small size, perfect for reading it anywhere or slipping it into a bag to take along to work.
Mine didn't come this morning….. ?
PS - Does this come via post or is it in the normal paper round ie through the newsagency?
ed - just read above that it will come in the mail. I'll wait a little longer as I'm not in a main city
I'm in the far south coast of NSW and feel lucky that mine arrived late today, our mail service suffers from distance-lag something shocking…
Agreed that it looks like a fine piece of newstopia.
Came like magazine would come via subscription. Haven't opened mine yet - will read it on the weekend with an espresso - but it's a neat little beast. It's a good size to hold and pretty thin - not off putting in size like our weekend rags.
got mine the other day.. its waaaay smaller than i expected. oh well.
That's what she said?
Hold the negs for razmoo, I got mine today and yes it does look rather small and thin. But really the amount of text (and quality of) is stacked in - not the ads and ads and graphics and ads that stack your regular paper. But I would agree, when you first see the size and relatively low amount of pages, it seems a little small. And if I'd paid >$200 it…
But once you actually open it and see the amount of text stuffed in I'd say the $20 was well spent.
double post
Just got the subscription confirmation letter in the post, and it says that I have only paid for 13 weekly issues (rather than 1 year's worth!). I went back to check the confirmation email plus the original website link but there is nothing that says it was for a 1 year subscription, so I don't really have any "proof" that is what I signed up for. They are closed today so I will try to get them on the phone next week.
Anyone else experienced this??!
My letter explicitly states that I've signed up for 52 issues and that the expiry date listed is Feb 2013.
Oh no, I hope they will honour my subscription for the 12 months!
I think you're better off contacting them on Monday rather than merely hoping. :) Find out what happened and see if you can get it cleared up.
I still havnt recieved any lol
I still havnt recieved any lol
UPDATE: The guardian subscription includes free access to digital edition on your computer and is compatible for reading on iPad. Follow this link to register for free. I got a couple of errors registering and logging in but it all worked eventually.

Thanks for the reminder. Had forgotten about this.
Great find OP and a good paper too. These are the guys that exposed all the nasty phone tapping goings on at Murdoch-owned News of the World (now thankfully closed down)
About time a left of centre paper was given a chance to make some headway in Oz, even though its only a weekly
