C Programming Language introduces you to the most commonly used programming language, one that has been the basis for many other versions over the years. It is a great book, not just for beginning programmers, but also for computer users who would want to have an idea what is happening behind the scenes as they work with various computer programs.

You must be a great programmer by now. 👍

Me too, so I ordered a second copy.

I found CS50 through Harvard as a better introductory guide rather than this textbook. The textbook is too tedious to start off with

    • +2

cs50 is really great. unsw's excellent comp1511 lectures are also all freely available on youtube. this course doesn't cover trees and basic algos like cs50 does, but what it does cover it covers in a lot of detail.

      • +1

Sounds like this book doesn't have much structure and not the best compilation. Maybe can do cs50 in union with this book and use the best elements of each. Anyway, thanks for the pointers.

Remember to free this book after malloc’ing it.

    • the book is already free.

    • +3

Could you point me to the book?

      • +8

        &no;

        • +9

Being an unhelpful type doesn't cast you in a good light.

          • +3

@Technics: It's how you handle the exceptions that shows your true character.

    • +1

Can you dangle any other pointers?

  • +5

Does this #include any good pointers ?

    • +1

I personally think a class might be better but you should choose your own methods.

      • +1

        a class might be better

        extern or int ?

      • OOPs!….I did it again. Singing from the wrong cheat sheet. Don't worry, we all do it.

      • C doesn't support class

        • -1

          plus plus to you…

        • Hence the suggestion of an alternative.

  • +1

I cant remember exactly what I learnt from C 18 years ago, but I still remember it drove me crazy

    • -1

      Why ?

      • because.

        • What about Pascal?

    • +1

Take Fortran twice a day and consult your doctor if pain persists.

  • +2

I was lucky enough to meet Dennis Ritchie once.. really nice bloke ..Sadly his contribution to modern society is greatly underrated as so much modern technology depends on the C programming language.

If you want to learn C get the definitive book by Kernighan and Ritchie .. https://www.amazon.com.au/Programming-Language-Brian-W-Kerni…

    • Agreed

      RIP

I was lucky enough to meet Dennis Ritchie once..

Me too, when he was in Melbourne for a unix conference.

  • Seg fault all over my brain just thinking about it. I guess it's replaced by 500.

  • OP 👍

  • I thought python is now the most commonly used programming language. And with AI is it still worth learning ?

That was 2,278 days ago and I still don't know C.
