Philips Blu-Ray Player BDP3200 $79+ Shipping

20

Not quite as cheap as http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/60493 last year but still a great price. Shipping $7.16 to 2000.
See that post for comments on the quality/features, this price is $30+ cheaper than anywhere else.
Might be region free, read some posts saying so - or at least easily mod to be so.

  • A Whirlpool poster (Skittlebräu, in the thread at http://forums.whirlpool.net.au/archive/1091222) indicated back in 2009 that almost all BluRay players had DVD regions unlocked but were BluRay region locked. He pointed out that Soniq could be unlocked on a per disc basis, and that Kogan was fully region free.

I don't know how much the situation has changed since then, since I've been sticking with my old technology (I'm sick of buying my movies on each new format in turn, for a higher price), but there is a DVD unlock code available online for this particular model - suggesting that it may be DVD region locked out of the box.

I'd be interested to see mileage on this, as BluRay is almost down to the point where I might consider buying it for future movie purchases.

  • Great player, Dick Smith had it for $63 a little while back. It's locked to region 4 for DVD and 2 for Blu-ray, but you can make it region-free for DVD only.

  • Considering blurays are cheap from amazon.uk (same region) I say that the region lock shouldnt be a hassle.

Very good unit. Picked it up for $63 at the DSE boxing day sale. Unlocked for DVD and does a great job of MKV playback etc. Heaps cheaper than buying a WDTV, and it plays Blu-rays and DVDs too!
