shame it doesnt do home assistance though the PVR, its the only thing letting the reolink down i reakon.

(as it takes too long to go though the app when you quickly want to see a camera)

Dedicated monitor showing the streams….. Simples. Let down for this package is its without AI

      • +1

        simple… :S

much easier to just have my phone and go, "OK google show me the front door"… which is available anywhere. heck i might not even be home when i do it… so a dedicated monitor, requiring well, a monitor, a location, and extra power, is hardly an alternative.

and yeah, the no facial recognition is an issue as well, having so many false positives with mine, i now understand how useful a feature that would be.

By the time you give the command and it opens I already would of seen the feeds using my finger 😂😂

for testing i set this up when I got my cameras, it is so slow..

takes around 5 seconds to load the app on chromecast and then another 5-10 to show the video, I'm on 250mbps FTTP.
I disconnected the service from Google once I had tested as I wont be using it.

          • @HFB: Exactly my experience. Why I went with the dedicated monitors instead

  • Agree with your comments. I went ahead and installed Swann NVR8-8580 Bullet Master Series IP Digital Still Image Video Cameras, 4K, 2TB, 8 x NHD-875WLB Cameras, 8-Channel from amazon for $999. No issues with 4K and integrated with Google home assistant with out any issues. I am also not inclined considering their origin country/place.

    • Interested hearing this as a lot of the reviews online state that people have a distaste for the app and configuration of the cams without using the base unit plugged into a kvm.

I haven't pulled the trigger on one of these deals based on the reviews but I only really want to have it as a just in case and to keep an eye on the cars in the driveway so I can't decide if I am just over thinking this

    • Swann apps are really bad, they crash within 15 seconds and have a one second delay despite being connected on the same network. Quite frankly I wouldn't go Swann just cause Reolink doesn't have Home Assistant, yes it can be useful, but its a deal breaker when Swanns can't read any licence plates at night (they all show up in a white colour). Also, Swann will only remotely playback three seconds of footage before crashing.

      • The New models have google assistant and Alexa support is also expected

    • Master series are shit BNC.
PoE is much better and even swann has motion record delays even on 4K PoE it misses crucial initial record.

You're going to regret that purchase. Swann is the worst thing you could of brought. They underperforme across the board with junk support

I'm looking at a Reolink unit as we're building a new home and will be able to install PoE around the house (we just need 4 cams) and I'm still wondering if Reolink is the way to go. Reviews/videos say the app is great to use but downsides including no Google assist, you can just twist off the cams as they're not hard drilled in.

But what's the better alternative for a PoE setup like this?

    • New models have google assistant support. And Alexa support is also expected.

You can use bullet cameras instead of Dome cameras twist-off issues.

See details in my comments belo.

Shame about the dome cameras still having that issue. They look nicer on a house compared to having the bullet ones IMO.

However, there is a catch. Only independent cameras will work with google assistant. NVR system cameras connected via NVR have no support for google assistant.

The best option is the buy the individual cameras and NVR separately. However, NVR is not essential if you purchase the cameras as standalone.

Like you said, individual cameras that support Google home won't if sold as part of a kit.
You gotta buy the pieces individually so they each have a uid.

Edit: haha i see your post below the response!

You need to buy Reolink cameras with person/vehicle detection as there are better than Swann in detecting.

820D(person/vehicle detection) or 822(with 3x zoom) are better than 800Ds

These cameras work with google assistant and Alexa support is on the way!

    • Well looks like I'll be going with this then, cheers!

    • Check NVR hardware number certain hardware have added detection by firmware upgrades. In forum they have mentioned about those hardware numbers.

      • That's for the NVR update to be compatible but the IPC still needs to be the AI version

  • would you guys recommend these or the Eufy camera set up cheers

    • 2 completely diff ecosystem. PoE vs WiFi. 24h vs motion

Highly recommend reolink especially their person and vehicle detection. Bought two from last deal and they work great for my parents. I have my own hikvision setup with blue iris and the simplicity of reolink cannot be beat. The software works great and the person detection is excellent.
