and so begins the obligatory apple debate of massive price gouging tactics.

    to get the ball rolling.

2TB version with cellular and wifi
    AU $3,549.00

    ……for a tablet.

    • Yaaaaawn

    • +10

That's nuts, but also who needs 2TB of storage on a tablet?

      • You can always post it on tictok/Facebook

    • +8

Find me an equivalent tablet with 2TB storage, faster or equivalent processor to M1, 5G support and better ecosystem than iPad Pro?

Expensive but Apple can really charge what they want because nothing comes close to the iPad in the tablet market.

      • +14

        Thats really not good reasoning.

The base version is $1110. Is 128gb -> 2tb and cellular support worth over $2000?

        • +8

Apple knows it's not a good deal, they make it because they can, and there WILL be suckers out there who buy it. Guaranteed.

          • +2

@dbmitch: you're not a sucker if you can afford it. Just as you're not a sucker if you can't.

            • +3

@beatsntoons: Unfortunately, I know a true sucker who can't afford it and yet still brought it.

The basic fact that the model exists just brings the worst decision-making out of them.

What's that syndrome called? Must have the best to look rich but be actually poorer than poor?

        • I agree with you, but I believe this also has more RAM.

          Still a gouge

        • I think you're forgetting that you're trying to fit more and more storage into essentially the same confines. It's expensive to make, which is why you don't load up on it in phones and tablets.

Get in the habit of taking what the market gives you in terms of decent storage and RAM pricing for these form factors, and then have external storage solutions to move video/images to a backup.

People who buy this stuff like it's a camera, and they'll never change the card on it are genuinely asking for trouble.

          • @jasswolf: nah, storage modules barely impact the space. They're insignificant.

            • @beatsntoons: That's exactly what I just wrote… that's why they're more difficult to manufacture and wind up costing so much more.

Even in laptops, there tends to be a break point at around 512 GB - 1 TB due to the additional manufacture cost of 2 TB and up. 2 TB is approaching being reasonable, but 4 TB remains ridiculous for NVMe.

              • @jasswolf: yeah but the difference between 516gb and 1gb on a laptop aint $700 is it :/

                • @ubcool: Well in terms of orders of magnitude, the correct comparison would be 256 GB and 4 TB, in which yes, the price difference would go close to that.

        • +1

Time is money. For the person who needs access to a large trove of data, and mobile connectivity, $2000 is just the price to pay and it is worth it for their workflow.

Worth is subjective. It might not be worth it to me or to you, but certainly to others.

      • You are taking it slightly out of context.

Do you need a tablet that's 2TB. Don't forget there are Macbook Air, Macbook Pro. Does Apple's decision currently makes perfect sense? 2TB on a tablet, but not on a laptop? That's what this is about.

Yes, the M1 CPU is pretty good in most areas. However, it does need to address USB storage transfer speed being a notch slower than Intel CPU. The restricted Alt mode setup for external display is also a bit unpleasant. I'm sure Apple will address them in M1X and/or M2.

      • You are just confirming MickMonk's point here.

    • +1

and so begins the obligatory apple debate of massive price gouging tactics.

It isn't obligatory….just for people like you who stalk the apple posts and think they have to comment

Maybe it's a hobby for you…..seems a bit boring but if that's what makes you happy then so be it

  • PEOFY10 | PEOFY12 or PLUSFLASH10

PEOFY10 and PEOFY12 do not work for both iPad or iMac listings.

If you can get a student discount and have RewardGateway or some other way to get 5% off JB Hifi giftcards then this can possibly be a better and cheaper option. I did this last week and combined it with the $25 latitudepay deal to get the base model for roughly $1050.

    • Buy TCN cards for 10% off.

      • Would have been even better.

        • And leave the last $100 to spend with latitudepay

      • How do you get 10% off with TCN cards?

      • It will not end up well…

        • Care to explain why not rather than just making a passing negative statement?

          • +1

@DoctorCalculon: If you go have a look at the thread last time they did 10% off it was an absolute shit show.

            • @miicah:

              last time they did 10%

The upcoming promotion is at Coles. From my initial search, I can see that the last promotion was from TCN themselves.
Unless I am looking at the wrong thread, I am not seeing the risks.

  • Oops edit nevermind.

  • Are the 12.9” ipads in stock or pre-order?

    • The estimated delivery is between early Jul to mid July so it’s preorder? For the 512GB Wifi model at least

      • You’re right i missed the estimated delivery

    • My wife got hers 2 weeks ago - pre-ordered via Apple. Incredible device. (wifi, 512GB)

      • What is the 512 storage used for?

        • +1

whatever 256 storage is insufficient for.

          • @ra3m3: What is the 256 storage used for?

            • +4

@ATangk: Whatever 128… do you really want to play this game?

              • +2

@ra3m3: Idk, it’s just all the reviewers are like, buy the 1Tb! It comes with double the RAM. But it also literally costs soooo much more. And what are people downloading on their iPads which they can’t stream nowadays on Netflix or prime video.

                • @ATangk: In my opinion, going all in on memory is a general notion when you intend to use the device for long term as you cannot anticipate the data accumulation. It really connects with someone who has previously seen the message 'Note enough storage on device!!!'
Diligent users may clean up, use external backup etc. (and remember external backup comes with a price too) but the oversized memory is mostly for the lazy/paranoid user. There may be users who deal with enormously large files that can benefit from having direct access to them on the device, but only a small proportion.

The 11" 256gb is cheaper than Apple EDU pricing via this deal however the 12.9" 256gb is cheaper via Apple EDU. I guess the $100 off is a higher % discount at the lower price range and a lower % than the EDU discount as you move up in price.

  • Super crazy pricing for M1 ipads. The SD870 Lenovo XIaoxin Pad Pro 2021 OLED is $650 delivered, I ordered that instead.

  • Hi OP, any chance of the item getting bumped to earlier delivery or it has to be by first week of July? Thanks.

    • The title says it's a preorder, so they don't even have them yet, to my understanding.

    • Hi cloudie9,

Which model are you after, we can check for you. We do have a few models in stock and ready to ship, and the others will have an ETA from our suppliers.

      • The 1tb with cellular, space grey.

        • +1

          Hi cloudie9,

For this one the ETA is mid to late June for both 11 and 12.9 inch, subject to change based on supplier logistics.

  • I'm a musician, and need a big screen- found a 2020 12'9" model w/ pencil for $1100. Good deal? Or should I suck it up and spring for the M1 for longevity?

    • If you are reading sheet music you will be more than fine. The 2020 model is still a top end tablet.

      • Yeah, I'm reading sheet music with it. Looks like similar pricing from apple (with edu discount) with the pencil as well would be $1850.

Obviously depends on your budget and processing needs but if you are going to work with it, probably invest in the long term

      • I'm a hobby web dev, might be worthwhile…

        • +1

get a Macbook Air if you are doing web dev, iPadOS is horribly to work with for dev.

          • @deliriouss: I need the iPad form factor for sheet music. Laptops are nonstarters.

    • +1

Wait and see if they announce any M1 specific iPadOS update at the WDCC tomorrow, otherwise, for your use case I would get the 2020 model.

      • Oh, that's a good call!

        • Back after watching the WWDC keynote summary, buy the 2020 or 2018 model, if you can find one at a good price and condition.

    • If it's sheet music, any 12 inch tablet will do the job, including the first gen 12 inch ipad.

  • Thank god I don't have to preorder this lol I was lucky enough to get it with telstra and pick it up in store the 12.9 inch 512gb model with celluar 5G. I would hate to try to get one now lol but good luck to all.

    • Why lol

      • mainly because its out of stock but good luck with trying to find the model you want though. Unless you get buy it from the apple store directly.

  • +1

Thanks. Pricing makes it a worthy choice over the ipad air 4.

    • Exactly my thought… but would love to see iPad Air become cheaper, as I'm a bit budget starved atm and don't really need an M1

  • OP what's the best price you can do for Airpods Max?

    • Hi tommypickles,

I believe we already have the cheapest price on the market if you use the 10% off code.

      • Legend. When do the promo codes expire? If it’s still active tomorrow after Apple WWDC announcements, might order then

  • If you have a student ID, you can get it at edu price at JB+stack it with the 10% off TCN card.

    • I'm confused by "JB+Stack it"… the JB part I understand, but what's the relevancy (and what is) Stack it?

      • You can get education price at JB if you a student ID, pay with the 10% off TCN card (available at Coles this Wednesday). You get around 18-19% off the RRP this way.

  • Hey Op (wireless1),
Can you confirm you definitely have iMac M1 256Gb Blue stock available.
When I go to purchase / checkout it shows an early July date.
    Thanks!

    • +1

      Hi ezza,

For the iMac M1 256GB Blue, there is a few units of the 7-core version available right now. If you can place an order ASAP we should be able to secure it for you. If you are after the 8-core version, the ETA is end of June.

      • Hey again op.. just another quick one (prob not possible i assume) noticed on the apple store, you can select the imac, then an extra $70 for magic keyboard to have touch ID and add $40 for an ethernet post (I assume or maybe its a dongle).
Assuming its not possible to make changes to your stock right.. thought I'd still ask/check.

        • Hi ezza

Currently we don't have that option, you will have to get an 8 core model which comes included with the touch ID keyboard and ethernet .

  • 10% is OK if you need one immediately.
    I be waiting for 15-20% off :-)

  • is there any warranty or return policy difference between buying from apple store or ebay/jb hifi?

    • +1

      Warranty difference? No
Return policy? I believe Apple has change of mind returns with no questions asked.

      • Apple has change of mind returns with no questions asked.

Only for 14 days from date of pick up.

        • That's better than any other third party selling Apple products AFAIK… and whilst not entirely relevant to this thread, but at certain times of year (eg Christmas) they extend out that period a bit so I've found it to be a valuable feature especially when buying something like an iPad or Macbook where you may not be sure if it'll work with your workflow.

          • @jace88:

but at certain times of year (eg Christmas) they extend out that period

That's right. If you buy any Apple product in November, the return date is always ~ 8 Jan NY.

It is probably worth sharing my recent experience with an Ipad 8th gen I ordered through wireless1 on ebay when this posting came out on 20 March 2021. https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/611877

Soon after ordering, I got the message: Please be aware, as we have stated on the listing “Estimated shipping times, and the wording "Express Postage (Courier)", do not accurately represent our service offerings and are simply a guide or estimate provided by eBay. As a result, we do not guarantee that you will receive such services or timings”.Apologies, we have been informed by our Third Party warehouse there is a delay on this, ETA, unfortunately, won't be until the 24th of April for the supplier to have stock. This is a long wait, are you okay to wait for this?

I agreed to wait, but the estimated delivery time came and went. I followed up a bit later and got an estimated date 9 days or so into the future. This time came and went. Eventually, after 2.5 months from the original order date, I gave up waiting and bought elsewhere.

Perhaps I got unlucky, or perhaps an item which appeared on the front screen of ozbargain had too many takers for the stock allocations available to wireless1 - I am not sure.

I am curious to know if other people's Ipad orders were met within a reasonable time.

Regardless, keep my experience in mind.

    • +1

Thanks for sharing and looks like you weren't alone based on the comments in the thread.

  • Anyone know if it's 12% off if you sign up for Ebay Plus and use code PEOFY12?

    • +2

I have ebay plus.. PEOFY12 doesn't work on their items.

        Thanks ezza!

Keen to get the new iMac. But I will wait to see what’s new on the wwdc tonight
